What do we think of Eddie Ford, good people? Haven't seen much of him, seems to be one of those flashy but not particularly "defense-inclined" small forwards. Is there a world where we look at him purely as a different "type" to what we have, or is he just not good enough even for that role?

Massive hypothetical, but there are rumours of JSOS signing a small deal with St. Kilda to minimise our compensation.

I remember something similar happening with Joe Daniher when he went to Brisbane.

What rules were put in place to prevent these shenanigans?

I want 2 x Band 1.

I like the name and the sideburns … that’s all I got …

The rumour going about is the Saints have come in over the Pies and Dogs with a better offer than either. No idea where this rumours come from re minimizing our compo.

I don't want to blame Voss, but I am concerned that even with Wright coming in and chatting with the players we've got players wanting and rumoured to want to leave. TDK has obviously gone for money (though I do think loyalty has a bit more weight over money in sport, but I get why he's left), but JSOS and Charlie (potentially) wanting to leave makes me wonder if the culture at the club is pushing players to want to leave.

I dunno, we've not really been impacted by free agency too much but something about this offseason just doesn't feel right.

I'm not sold on Voss, Austin or Agresta, so I really hope Wright's call to back them in doesn't bite him in the arse early next year.

It's what I was told. Have little reason to doubt who told me. If it's true, I hope the AFL destroys the Aints.

Kennedy - we lost resilience which we dont have much of in the first place
JSoS - we lost competitiveness that we dont have much of in the first place
TDK - we lost a wildcard who can turn a game but also lose us a game if we are honest
Martin - we lost an enforcer. Yes, didn't play much but we have zero enforcers on our list currently

This gives the conditional Mcgovern a second chance...ugh!
This gives air to Kemp and young who are just low confidence players.
Losing those type of players allows the softness to continue (no personalities inclusive of Cripps/Weitering/Walsh)

Yes, I like the Jagga, HoF/Dean/Walker picks coming in. But we will lose Cripps, Hewett, Acres, Saad, Newman, Haynes, Williams by 3 years time when those players are useful.

Reset schmeset, we failed it from 4 years ago to build towards now. One minute Cook says top 4, three seconds later they will say bottom 5 is the goal and 60000 members.

You guys got any idea what rules are in place to prevent it/compensate us if they try to pull it off?
The AFL would have to sign off on the deal in the first place. If it looks dodgy, they will just bin it.

I really don't get this. Did you want us to match the TDK offer? If the answer is no then you can't blame the club for him leaving. Blame the nature of free agency if you want. Martin? How many complaints about injuries do we have on here every season? So many posts dedicated to whinging about how we keep injury prone players on the list. We finally delist the worst of the worst and now a year on it's a mess that we lost him?

Had a look at our top players over the past 4 seasons in terms of total games played and it's horrible viewing.
Four players in our top 22 games played have now been confirmed to be leaving, or already left.
Silvagni missed all of last year and scrapes in at 22. Owies and Kennedy played for different teams this year and made top 20. Doc in 15th after only playing 2 games last year. And another 3 players in the top 15 who are possibly leaving.
Newman, Acres and Ollie all top 12, despite having only played 3 out of 4 seasons.

Hopefully this new crop of players coming through are a bit more resilient.

Unfortunately, the list is an absolute mess right now.

No small forwards of AFL standard.
No high-speed, high-possession elite ball using mids or backs.
1 AFL-level tall defender.

It is looking like we will enter the season with maybe the worst squad we have had since a year or two before we won the final from 9th.

Wash your mouth out with soap.

If things don't work too well for us in defence, I can see Curnow being moved to CHB.

Forward line containing McKay, Kemp, Moir, O'Keefe. Haynes wing. Curnow CHB, Weitering FB. Dean or Young to feature in defence.

Lots of other clubs lose players via trade or free agency, it's not like we're alone and therefore unusual in that regard.

As you've pointed out, TDK left for a bullshit offer that would have been irresponsible for us to even get close to matching.

Jack is a tough on to get a read on - could be anything from him thinking the club is a train wreck to him getting better offers elsewhere and wanting to get the money in the bank to him being a somewhat unlikable personality who maybe just doesn't feel all that connected to the club even with the history to him being resentful about how things have been handled with his dad and brother....really difficult to assign any kind of "fault" to the club in regards to him.

Charlie is the worry for me - but by all reports he's happy and willing to stay but open to a lifestyle move. He's a bit of a lad, so maybe that's literally all there is to it - he'll take whatever comes his way and he's just letting the club know they can shop him if they want to and he's cool with it.

At this point in time - we're losing two free agents, one to a godfather offer, and the other in murky circumstances. We'll be reasonably well compensated for the loss of those two, with a top 10 pick and another in the 20s. Plenty of clubs have dealt with similar, or worse. It's modern footy - you get what you can and move on.
