All depends on who's going out. As it stands Dean will get bid on before the TDK pick imo.How do we get in position to take one of these?
I don't see it happening atm. Do you think Dean makes it past the TDK compo?
Sure, but Butters will cost every bit of 3 first rounders. Something which we would struggle immensely to produce.Or as a counter thought, let’s say Butters is moving next year and the club inside are aware.
We use the Curnow circus to leverage a trade for him this year.
he is but he's one of four to five HFF/FPs, Williams has played a lone hand at times this year in a similar role, without anyone else stepping up to take some of the pressure off him.You’re seriously under rating Ah Chee, he is a gun.
I think he will, is ranked in the 10-15 range and cant see Essendon or Gold Coast bidding, Saints may just to be pricks but will be other players on the board that interest them more and will prob trade there first for Flanders, hopefully we can get away using the JSOS compo on Dean and our 3rd on Ison and would be a pretty solid draft haul.How do we get in position to take one of these?

Getting ahead of Dean/Walker makes no sense to me now that they have both shot up the draft order and we have a better understanding of the strengths/weaknesses of their draft classes.
I think we should target complementary role players in trades and take risks on lower range draft picks over the next two years.
Actually would say Williams is our best and most dangerous small/medium, but you’re point is spot on, it’s been very obvious for all the 7 years I’ve been here and have been pointing it out all along…The premier has 5 small/Medium forwards in Cameron, Lohman, Rayner, Bailey, AhChee that are better than our best small/medium forward in Motlop.. This alone explains a lot.
This is a tricky one, we have HOK who looks AFL quality and had Harry Lemmey in the 2s playing well at VFL level but never looking like making it at AFL, its hard to attract and develop the next string of KPF when they know they are always going to be behind Charlie & Harry in the pecking order.Actually would say Williams is our best and most dangerous small/medium, but you’re point is spot on, it’s been very obvious for all the 7 years I’ve been here and have been pointing it out all along…
Add the lack of next gen KPP’s developing in the reserves as well, we may not have found ourselves in a position, in which we struggled to cover Curnow/McKay injuries whilst having ready to go KPF’s in this case to cover for the possibility of a Curnow loss…
Still think Lemmey gets invited back as a train on but will depend on who we trade inThis is a tricky one, we have HOK who looks AFL quality and had Harry Lemmey in the 2s playing well at VFL level but never looking like making it at AFL, its hard to attract and develop the next string of KPF when they know they are always going to be behind Charlie & Harry in the pecking order.
It’s a valid point which i agree with, but that shouldn’t mean that as a club you can’t be looking ahead to drafting and developing KP’s types for the near and medium term future…This is a tricky one, we have HOK who looks AFL quality and had Harry Lemmey in the 2s playing well at VFL level but never looking like making it at AFL, its hard to attract and develop the next string of KPF when they know they are always going to be behind Charlie & Harry in the pecking order.
Could a salary dump option be Jye Simpkin. He's on a million bucks, not worth it. Playing on a wing when he's an inside midfielder. Kids will be playing ahead of him in North's midfield. Would easily be serviceable enough to carry in our best 26 for a few years.Curnow aside, I'd be surprised if we upgrade to a higher position in this year's draft.
Outside of adding Buku, Chesser, Reidy & co, I think Austin has one specific priority: Come out of this year's trade period with enough draft capital in 2026 to match a potential #1 bid on Cody next year. That should be the club's expectation of Austin. Don't get cute when you have a player like Walker available to us.
I will have no issue if we swap our TDK compo for a pick in the teens next year. Walker will have Harley Reid like hype about him next year & because the AFL wanna **** us, we're gonna need multiple first round picks to leverage into a couple of high end 2026 picks.
Don't be surprised if we take on a player salary dump to gain an extra first rounder (e.g Geelong with Bowes)
We have enough with poor disposal alreadyCould a salary dump option be Jye Simpkin. He's on a million bucks, not worth it. Playing on a wing when he's an inside midfielder. Kids will be playing ahead of him in North's midfield. Would easily be serviceable enough to carry in our best 26 for a few years.
Would North need to bump him off?

I wouldn't think so. Trade is effectively Chesser and #2 for Curnow, as #10 for #17 and a GCF1st (~10-16 next year) is effectively a wash.Hey fellas and ladies, in the hypothetical event that Curnow leaves, is this trade palatable for Blues posters?
CARL OUT: Curnow, 10
CARL IN: 2, 17, F1 (GCS), Chesser
*noting you’d either trade 17 for another F1 or split it again for Dean points.
Not quite how salary dumps workIf North were prepared to pay 25% of his salary and give us their first round pick next year for our 2nd round pick I'd be keen
Still for the life of me don't know why we never rookie listed McMahon. If we didn't think Lemmey was ready he should have been on our list all year. McMahon can play back too so provides depth at both ends.This is a tricky one, we have HOK who looks AFL quality and had Harry Lemmey in the 2s playing well at VFL level but never looking like making it at AFL, its hard to attract and develop the next string of KPF when they know they are always going to be behind Charlie & Harry in the pecking order.
But also say we got the Sydney pick 10.All depends on who's going out. As it stands Dean will get bid on before the TDK pick imo.
If we can package up some picks to get up ahead of that there's 3-4 players who would slot into our future plans perfectly.
Just have to do so without compromising next year.
I wanted to suss our list age profile. For exercises sake - If McGovern, Elijah, Curnow all now went with Doc, TDK, JSOS, Fantasia, Cincotta and Lemmey already going. And for exercise sake we delist Fogarty and the two Irish lads in Monahan and Duffy (there could be one or two more here depending how aggressive we get). We have a list of 34 at 24.4 years old.
Add Chesser, Buku, Florent, Reidy, Ison and Dean - 40 spots filled at 24.1 years old.
The youngest list is avg at 23.6 in 2025. With Newman, Saad, Haynes, Williams (All OOC) and Acres (OOC in ‘27) all being 30+ and probably being contemplated for our list 2027 and beyond, that will drop even further and we will probably be close to being one of the youngest teams again, also with Cody and any other youth coming through.
We have about a core of 18-20 players nearly that are 22 and under atm.
The idea by Wright to get players 23-28 years old through the door is exactly true of our profile. With the changes that would
be made above (Buku, Florent, Reidy) we would have only 13 players in that age band.
Hopefully it ends up "the time of my life" and not "a boulevard of broken dreams".If we play our cards right...
2025 - pick up Dean + Ison from the draft, bring in a handful of 23-28 yr olds that can fill a role.
2026 - go all out at the draft. Stockpile the picks from 2025 trade period, there's many ways to do it especially if we lose Charlie. I think we need 4 first round picks.
2027 1st + F3 -> * FOR 2026 1st
Charlie + F2 -> Swans FOR #11 + F1 + Hayward + Dattoli
#10(TDK) + #11 -> North/Demons FOR F1 + F3
There's four 1st round picks in next year's generational draft... we'll likely lose 2 for Cody unless we really luck out (say * finish 17th and WCE draft someone else without bidding, we can essentially just draft Cody there and then allowing us to pick up another 3 first rounders). But the point is, we go after that talent while we can, before the drafts are impacted by Tassie...
2027 - with Charlie gone, we will have a war chest and there will be a bunch of FAs available to chase... there's quite a few really good ones available, and there's some decent options as well. Rowell, Anderson, Serong, Coleman, SDK, Ash, Green, Day, Comben, Bergman, Georgiadis, Warner, Weightman ... all set to be RFAs end of 2027...
We also target a very good player at the trade table. The draft will be diluted thanks to Tassie for the next couple years at this point... So 2027, we offer up our 2028 1st and go after a very good player that will fill a need.
By 2030, we should be set.
Hopefully it ends up "the time of my life" and not "a boulevard of broken dreams".
Because at the moment all if have is trade period - "wake me up when September ends".
Not quite how salary dumps work
Did GC keep paying 25% of his salary?Yeah it actually is.
Geelong got Bowes AND pick 7 from the Suns as a Gold Coast salary dump in exchange for a future 3rd pick.

No reason a fit Simpkin couldn't play that Dane Zorko role for the next five or six years. (concede his kicking isn't Zorko's level)
Did GC keep paying 25% of his salary?
It wouldn't be a bad time to do a salary dump deal if it's not too long and we get a useful pick from itNo, but he wasn’t on a million dollars a year which Simpkin is reported to be
