You cant outplay a player. So you wanted his contract to role over on the old contract terms and remuneration structure?
We now have allowed him to shop around with no takers which in turn sets his new market price allowing us to resign him on base wages.
Also with that the realisation he won't get another list spot anywhere else so if he wants another pay check next year he needs to have a big season, esp with youngsters coming through. Good competitive tension now
Well played I would have thought?
He had a good stretch as a defensive forward with high tackle count.I agree with a lot of what’s been said positively about Fog, but he doesn’t kick enough goals, for a small forward.
I hate to be brutal but primarily because he is a terrible kick. The club (rightly or wrongly) believe that he is not going to make it as an AFL footballer and with list spots at a premium have elected to keep others before him. And also they believe that Lucas Camporeale and Chesser are a better chance to hold down the wing position in the long term. And we have some salary cap relief that we can use to pay for it.I see “play your role” Binns has been cut wth a year left on his contract…
Why not allow him to play out his contract in the vfl?

Very lucky to imo.Our list management is a mess.
How did Austin keep his job?
Clearly you are. Need 4 open primary list spots. No, you clearly are.
Just because we have cut Binns doesn’t mean we had to.
We could now cut White and Flynn Young, both Rookies, and be able to take 4 ND picks.
It seems we will also cut Lij, but we don’t have to to get the extra pick.
I’m disappointed that we haven’t been able to upgrade McGovern during this draft period and have to retain him - but you can’t fix our problems in one or two off seasons.
The real work started last off season, we’ve had another big turn over this one.
Next years offseason will see the last stage complete (McGovern, young, Boyd, Fog etc) and it’ll be a new look team in 2027.
I would have rather cut Fog.We need to free up his list spot.

Binns can run but not sure what else he brings....need to move past vanilla Binns types to move forward, Chesser is an immediate upgradeI would have rather cut Fog.
Think Binns has the improvement & we haven’t seen the best of him, hoping he gets on a list & shows he can play.
Fog, we’ve seen what he can do & he’s now so far down the pecking order it’s ridiculous.
We’ve seen his ceiling and it’s not high, if we see he named in the team this year something has gone horribly wrong &/or Voss is back to having NFI about how we should play.

Jeez the knives are out for Gov, if we are fit & structured well the bloke can play.
When we fall down he looks shit, when we are solid he can be a damaging player.
He’s a hell of a field kick and can open up space & solid mark (apart from the occasional WTF fumble)
Seems to me that he’s getting scape goated & blamed when it’s the lack of run, spread & coverage in the back line.
When our mids aren’t gassed and getting sucked way to deep ie we have some structure, there’s no issue with him.
Gov isn’t the problem, he’s actually a weapon if structure & play a free flowing game style.
It’s the same with Saad, we don’t use him to his strengths then call him a liability.
The issues all stem further up the ground, you can’t blame defenders when the mid pressure is shit or when there’s no movement or leads coming further up the ground.
If we actually learn to manage our players & evolve to something that resembles a modern game style someone like Gov becomes an actual asset.
By all reports he’s busting his ass to be fit, let’s hope we use & manage him well.
Clearly you are. Need 4 open primary list spots.
At the moment we only have 3 with binns being cut
Yep, he can be, he does also go beast mode occasionally (to rarely) & savages the pack & chase people down/crunches tackles.Harry I agree but Geesh he infuriates with poor efforts in the air, when he is under the ball (as distinct from on leads). He and Zach as defenders are extremely poor under the high kick.
I’ve already answered this multiple times. Can you really not count into the 40s, or are you trolling?
After this post I’m going to assume the latter.
We currently have 2 list spots with Binns cut.
Lij would make 3.
And we can open another Senior list spot by cutting the uncontracted Rookie White.
I don’t disagree, I do wonder if management & competition for his spot will actually keep him more engaged & locked into providing a constant effortSorry Harry but disagree. He is lazy and conditional. Been on big money and hasn’t stood up when needed
Ability wise he has it all but McGovern is a classic example of why we have been poor for so long. The fact we offered him free to anyone and no one took him up says it all to me

He needs positive attitude around him to be at his best, soon as we drop our heads his drops lower than most

The funny thing about Boyd and Fogarty extensions is that they were done when they were best 22 players in a finals side and should’ve been going into their prime. 2 years on low dollars didn’t seem crazy. Binns was a second year player killing it in the VFL. He was still 19 when he extended
In hindsight they were all mistakes but I can see how it happened.
Both cleary and Cavenagh today have said 4 in ND.
