What did you expect? If we talked about trades we wouldn't be able to fit all the Install A Rheem ads in!!Ahh I love when trade period opens and we get radio silence for a week

If we hadn't won the Weller trade we would be pretty much stuffed.I disagree. He gets deals done while at the same time negotiating in good faith and keeping a good relationship with other list managers. There is this prevailing opinion that you somehow need to 'win' a trade which is absolutely not true.
Until Acres had that one good game for the Blues where he saved the day, and everyone here tore their garments and threatened to burn down Dockers HQ.Bit of a key difference is that we clearly didnt want Acres at all. Melbourne want to keep McVee
Everyone conveniently forgot that Acres had one good season out of three for us once he was the saviour for Carlton.Until Acres had that one good game for the Blues where he saved the day, and everyone here tore their garments and threatened to burn down Dockers HQ.
The Weller trade accounts for 1 player on our list. One, out of 44.If we hadn't won the Weller trade we would be pretty much stuffed.
Getting maximum value from every onfield and off-field asset the club holds should always be the goal.
Would love to get Simpkin in purpleSpitballing here… Our picks 11 and 29 for Simpkin and North’s pick 20 (on the basis they pay a portion of his salary) then on trade pick 20 for Mcvee and Melbourne’s third rounder. Use that third rounder to trade for Serong. We go to the draft with just our third and change which would hopefully get us the younger Curtin or a Pickett / Kickett forward. Would really lift our floor and add an extra quality inside / outside mid in Simpkin. It’s your bottom 6 players that often decide games. I like the idea of spending low to mid range capital to get mid range players (eg Mcvee) to push out the bottom 6 and lift our floor. Trading to lift your ceiling (I.e Petracca, Merret etc) is bloody expensive !!!

Why would North tell him to look for options then?Xander McGuire said on a poddy that Simpkin was front loaded and that's why north probably won't let him go
Makes sense, have paid him a big part of his contract, they just get stung if he leaves now
Just a minor matter but the pick is currently 33 (not 32) and likely pushed back to 34 shortly. He is a talented player who was impacted a little by injury in 2025. Played 65 games is young and has very good footskills. Blake Acres is a terrible comparison. We massively lowballed him and clearly weren’t fussed about him staying or going. Melbourne apparently only offered 2 years but they wanted to keep him and were in a position to negotiate a new contract with Steven King as new coach. Here’s the thing. Are Melbourne knocking back 32 and walking him to PSD?
Also, FU for putting that earworm in my head.Throwing 34 on the table walking away Craig David style isn’t the way to negotiate.

12,33,44,53,71Where do our current picks stand?
Sorry every time I see or write walking away that stupid song comes to mind. Also, FU for putting that earworm in my head.![]()
Which club would offer us a mid 20s pick in exchange for worse picks? Does David Walls need to use the jedi mind trick on a lesser list manager? "These are the picks you are looking for."12,33,44,53,71
After the Oscar Allen compo they will all move back 1 more:
13,34,45,54,72
Gold Coast have a heap of academy kids. We may be able to shake something loose thereWhich club would offer us a mid 20s pick in exchange for worse picks? Does David Walls need to use the jedi mind trick on a lesser list manager? "These are the picks you are looking for."

Pick 34 is not high enough. Pick 25-29 is around the mark. We will do something that gets that over line. Throw in a sweetener or look to trade to upgrade pick 34.

That's not what happenedWhy would North tell him to look for options then?
