We have limited positions on the main list and its a Goober draft. The only ones trading down are going to be points hunter or idiots like WC.

We will take 2 live picks at the draft at maximum. I will find where Walls lives and fart in his face after a whole day of drinking beer and eating meat if he breaks up 11 for McVee.

Better get out the slow cooker mate

sorry mate but I just get this feeling that Wallsy would be totally immune to beer farts and meat sweats and you will be left stewing in your own filthy air

Last few years it's been a bit of action on day 1 regarding who wants to go where, **** all until the following week, a bit on the penultimate day and then a lot in the final few hours.

This year there's barely been anything on day 1 because most of the big request destinations are already known.

Jeez how many players are they coughing up then

JUH and Trac in means they've got to get down to 28 pre those two
Down to 33 already.

Rosas, Fiorini, Flanders and Buderick have all requested trades already.

There's a couple of others OOC they could delist and move to the rookie list.

They're almost there just be getting the above trades done.

I reckon our 2nd isn't getting the McVee deal done after the amount of FA compo and other welfare picks that are pushing in front of it.
If we have to downgrade our first I'd rather we did it this year in what us reputed to be a pretty weak draft. Keep next year's and the following year's firsts in case we can use them for Warner next year.

Jeez that's more than a bit dumb for a team likely to finish bottom six next year. Reckon they've got the fourth worst list in the comp tbh (although Melbourne probably get worse than them when trade period is done).

So it'd be something like Pick 5/6 (2026) and Pick 20 for Pick 12.

Reckon that'd give the North Melbourne trade last year a run for its money.

Yet, dumb trades involving futures are made every year.

Someone could even try to tempt with 2027 firsts, thinking they’d rather get players in now.

Us? We were supremely lucky with Reid. Someone around 10-20 I would difficult for them to ‘slot’ into best 23.

We would be one side that could ‘gamble’ our first this year for futures.

We should be using our pick 11 on a small forward. Dovatson looks pretty decent and is expected to go around our pick. Tackling machine and kicks goals with a touch of arrogance. The club has not rated small forwards since JLo took the helm and it's going to bite us in the ass unless we do something about it.

The North Melbourne trade last year is an all timer and this is nearly as bad.

Tbh I think the play for Essendon is to approach Gold Coast or Carlton about their early picks. Reckon Carlton might be just as interested in future picks though.

Appears we're gonna try to both upgrade our pick 11 (for non-McVee uses) and our pick 33 (for McVee uses). Would be difficult to do both without dipping into future draft stocks. Even after the Reidy and Brodie trades, the most optimistic scenario would be we have about 500 points outside our first 2 picks.

We'll struggle to upgrade our first rounder IMO. Of course we're going to say we're open to it though.

Unless we get minimal third round upgrades, I doubt we actually get any additional points for Brodie and/or Reidy. Every little bit helps I guess though.

We shouldn’t need to but I reckon the only scenario that we downgrade pick 12 (13) will be if Melbourne end up with 14 (15) as part of the Petracca deal.

If we do I’d expect something back in our favour.

13, 34, 45 > McVee, 15, 42

Then upgrade picks for Reidy:
42, 54, Reidy > 41, 51

15, 41, 51

On Trade night try and upgrade 41 with combination of 51 and a future pick.

So we end up with something like 19 and 38 on draft night before a bid for Whan in 50’s.

It may not be as bad as it looks just on picks alone. It would be good to know where Whitlock would go in this draft. He could be a top 10 pick in this crop.

Wish people would stop saying we "lost" the Jordan Clark trade. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Jordy was a, what, #14 who played 16 games in his first year at a strong club that traditionally lets it's kids do an apprenticeship in the Mcgoos

He suffers a really bad injury that takes him some time to get over and after he recovers Geelong do their Geelong thing of now making him earn it with extended time in the VFL.

Then he comes home for #22 and a later round pick swap.

And for this "exorbitant" outlay we get an AA.

Clark for 22 (and the extra pick swap) you would do every day of the week and be happy.

I don't think that is true about the club not rating small forwards. We've spent huge capital on Bolton. Tried to do likewise with Pickett. Brought in Dudley. It is obviously a position the club sees a need for. But there's only so much you can do with the draft hand you have and the talent available.

In the last 5 or 6 years, I struggle to see any good small forwards that we could realistically have selected in the various drafts. The only one is Mannagh if you classify him as a small forward, and we were very keen and supposedly had him lined up for our next pick.

Maybe this year is a year when things line up with Dovaston. But if he is there and Walls passes on him, then I won't lose any sleep. You can't just pick small forwards for the sake of it. Otherwise you could pick a Hannaford or Dattoli instead of Murphy Reid.

A lot of good small forwards get overlooked come draft day because of, well, their size. Walters, Switta, Schultz all were picked in 50s or later and the latter two were mature agers. Charlie Cameron, Dylan Moore, Tom Papley, Ginnivan were all late picks or rookie drafters to name a few.

Generally the ones that do get picked early like Rankine and Pickett are seen as future midfielders because of speed and/or tackling pressure.

And it's not like we didn't spend capital on Bolton and try to in Kosi either
