Wish people would stop saying we "lost" the Jordan Clark trade. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Jordy was a, what, #14 who played 16 games in his first year at a strong club that traditionally lets it's kids do an apprenticeship in the Mcgoos

He suffers a really bad injury that takes him some time to get over and after he recovers Geelong do their Geelong thing of now making him earn it with extended time in the VFL.

Then he comes home for #22 and a later round pick swap.

And for this "exorbitant" outlay we get an AA.

Clark for 22 (and the extra pick swap) you would do every day of the week and be happy.
Pick 24 (Toby Conway, Geelong), Carlton F3 (Pick 46 Jack O’Sullivan, Hawthorn Delisted) > Jordan Clark, Geelong F4 (not used - ended up a pick in 60’s).

Jordan Clark for pick 22-24 is a very good result. I didn’t have a problem with it then and don’t now.

Posters whinged about the necessity of swapping F3 and F4. At that point in the draft pick 46 or pick +58 isn’t really much different because clubs are at that point selecting players based on need and pulling a few surprises.

Mannagh really should’ve been the one when we lost Schultz. We need a pressure forward and you’re more likely to get that from a mature age
I reckon we need pressure forwards. Most of our tall forwards do that and so does Switta, so who does it leave that isn't doing it? It's really only Freddie and Bolton that are conditional and one of them is not going to be replaced.

We should have pulled trigger on Mannagh in the relevant 2023 MSD.

We didn’t end up selecting anyone but from memory we could have placed someone on LTI. There was an article on him in the lead-up to GF and Walls was interested throughout the 2023 year and he did a medical with us some point.

2023 we selected Ethan "Chris Judd" Stanley.

2024 I believe was the year where the LTI list was cause for controversy. We had 1 spare list spot prior, but opted to instead take Kuek off the LTI list with that spot.

We should be using our pick 11 on a small forward. Dovatson looks pretty decent and is expected to go around our pick. Tackling machine and kicks goals with a touch of arrogance. The club has not rated small forwards since JLo took the helm and it's going to bite us in the ass unless we do something about it.
If that GC final wasn’t the most glaringly obvious look in the mirror that we needed to identify our deficiencies then I’m not sure what the hell it’s going to take

Lost track of how many times I watched the ball go into our forward line and then bounce back out, time and time again .

We have got so many rebounding defensive players who aren’t even getting a game it’s not funny, yet we can’t kick goals to save ourselves when the pressure is on .

A genuine "start the car!" scenario if their ever was.

Damn… clubs can do that? Front load contracts and then hold players to said contract???

Somebody should’ve told Peter Bell this when Lachie Neale was looking to bounce.
Clubs offer front loaded contracts for their own advantage ...and know the risks.
Clubs are also free to hold players to their contract...and know the risks.
Clubs also prefer their signed players to be "loyal", whilst encouraging other teams players to "betray" their own clubs.

No but what would happen if they did does still impact trade value IMO.

A fair deal will be worked out and pick 32 isn't that.
Other clubs would say it’s 32 take it or leave it.

We should be doing the same, if he was in contract different story.

Especially because it’s Melbourne, they’ve bent us over on too many occasions. We don’t owe it to them to get them a fair deal because their OOC player decided he wants out of that dumpster fire.

I really don't see how we move up in the draft

GC, Carlton, Sydney etc will be looking for points.

I think if we move up, it will be our 2nd round pick so we can use that to get McVee.

I think our drafting over the last 5 years has been pretty good. If Schultz was still here, then our small forward depth is fine.

With Bolton and Jackson coming in we didnt have many options to get a small forward. Saying we should have drafted Mannugh instead of Simpson is pure hindsight hero stuff.

Mannagh over Simpson really isn’t very hindsight hero stuff considering it was him or Simpson at that pick and we were strongly linked to both. Remember plenty being upset in the moment when Geelong swooped on him the next pick

I don't think any neutral supporter looks at the trades we've done with Melbourne at the time and would say we got bent over.

Langdon and Jackson were about right at the time, maybe 5% at most in Melbourne's favour.

Hogan was significant unders at time. Don't pretend otherwise because he didn't work out. He's easily a two first rounder type talent.

We'll negotiate in good faith like every club does 95% of time.

He came to the club with a bad foot injury where there was speculation it may never get fixed along with a drug problem. It was not unders at all

I still think Jackson was overs. 2 firsts was more than enough. There was no need to through in the 2nd rounder.

When chasing out of contract players you should get them for unders, yet we still pay overs for them.

I think two firsts was unders tbh. The second rounder puts it slightly in Melbourne's favour.

He just got ranked a top 15 player in the league and equalled Heeney on Brownlow points 🤔

Yet he was playing pre season games that same off season...

We certainly didn't pay overs at the time.
Just because he was playing pre season doesnt mean it was an issue. His foot cracked half way through the season. I find it amusing you didn't address his drug issues. He was a ticking time bomb over here

But Bailey Smith came 2nd and he was worth a teens pick. It’s all relative. We got good value, but was it the best negotiation, probably we bent over a bit.
That was a 4 team trade that saw Dogs also get Matt Kennedy and Bailey had just had a whole season off for his torn ACL haha
