If Walls knows there is nothing of Value below pick 25, then he would extract some value from any picks below 25. Gamble on some futures, try and trade up a couple spots.

You don't just give it away for nothing because you don't like what's on offer.

Downgrading 12 should've been enough to get 19 + 23 in itself. The 33 served no use there and didn't benefit us in any way. Even if there's no one good at that pick trade it into the next year for points.

I’m with Snuff and others on this, we didn’t need to get involved in the WC/Bris trade unless we came out the winners. I just hope Cal has got it wrong. It would make more sense to me that we get Pick 16 and Brisbane hold onto 19, rather than us take the extra downgrade and Brisbane get more for their uncontracted free agent than they should.

I just don’t see any reason for us to jump at the first opportunity to grab a pick at or around 23 for McVee, Essendon Carlton and North all have similar picks around that mark.

Especially with the potential picks Melbourne would get from Trac. We could've downgraded our 12 by giving it to them directly.

You forget that we are Freo. The AFL will tick off on us rogering ourselves, and then investigate the second “under the table” part and find wrongdoing and we’ll be banned from next year’s draft.

I thought the weirdness with the late picks meant there was a piece missing but I just realised he's probably throwing out all the late picks out because we only need one to match a bid/draft Whan and apart from him we're only using one pick this draft.

Indeed, but now you see why you as an accountant find it so grating.

I don't grade based on a notion of pick value because a sports draft is not a known system like an economy. There's no good or bad in this, only outcome matters.

No one cares we had pick 17 last year because the outcome was Reid. If our outcome this year is Rodriguez, Whan, and McVee, plus an SSP and they all work out, then outcome has trumped faux pick value.

It is a waste of energy to be upset about something when you only have a small fraction of the full picture of information.

I'm very happy we got McVee who clearly improves our squad. I would also be very happy to pick up Fred and Toby, ergo I don't give a shit about 200 points of useless pick value, much the same as I wouldn't bother to stop and pick up a $2 coin.
