I'm saying that if Carlton traded a pick like #85 for him then it is a measure of how they value him, a pick they'll never use to us that we also wouldn't use - but it would be a jab to the guts to a guy joining your club.

I agree, but why did they offer that - hence my offering of a reason. They've traded in a player for a pick worse than 120 before, Palmer, and they might remember him feeling a bit put out by it. So they offer us basically nothing but still not quite nothing.

So effectively we helped the reigning premier and our #1 rival while shooting ourselves in the foot and this is somehow viewed as a positive. All because we freaked out two days in to the trade period for an OOC 22 year old who had already nominated us.

I’m re-reading this over again because I can’t wrap my head around it. How do Brisbane net 16 and 22 for Starcevich and West Coast net pick 12 + Starcevich while we downgrade from 12 to 19 AND throw away later picks with nothing coming back for an OOC 22 year old?

The only information we need to confirm what we already know is how other clubs trade this year. If any other club does a trade this bad I'll relent slightly and say this draft overall is such a complete shit show that it's a completely unique situation.

Unfortunately the trade tracker is wrong. Freo have confirmed themselves we gave up 33 and WC have 33 on the AFL draft list

AFL the website is operated by AFL Media, a wing of but not part of AFL House who facilitate the trade period and confirm the trades.

AFL House says we gave up #33.

With such a piss poor draft where the quality has evaporated in the top 5 picks and add the academies and fs’s - throwing late shit picks isn’t the end of the world.

All of the clubs looking to acknowledge that the late second rounder picks and potential draftees and onwards have f... all value.
Players we have on the list already like Murph, Simpson and Nicholls and playing 3 years before a shiny new toy that is big average. Develop what we have and don’t go speculating on crappola.

I may be wrong, but essentially what we are saying by doing that trade is that we rate McVee as a now pick and he has way more value than any player outside of top 10.

Biggest issue I see moving forward is our talent development- players like McVee and Humphries getting developed at other clubs…

That's a good point but only if we trust other clubs to develop the WA talent as well or bettter than we can. If they get drafted by Carlton or North, forget about it.
