I think they'd keep the 3 talls 2 rucks structure the same and omac would come in as first choice. If omac wasn't available maybe it's change the thinking about structure
You are 100% right.

JL has no flexibility in his structures and refuses to make adjustments even when key personnel are not available.

Based on what?

We played at least 10 games this with out 1 of the rucks, or 1 of the key forwards, and I don't think we played 3 key forwards and 2 rucks once if one of them were out.

We certainly did not play 2 ruck after the first game, when Reidy played vs Geelong, but Jackson spent the majority of the 2nd half in the ruck.

Our forward structure has been 3 talls and for a long time they played depth. JL made a sight change with Treacy playing higher.

Still, it's a third tall forward line and JL won't alter that.

He played O'Mac as a key forward because of his inflexibility to change his 3 talls forward line.

Totally forgot that Omac has done some rucking for us too

I seriously don't want another ruck, would rather the list spot is spent elsewhere

Hell I'd even take Derksen as a utility that can pinch in the ruck over an actual ruck

If both Darcy and Jackson goes down then we have Voss/Treacy/Omac to cover

Riddle should be getting all the development as the main ruck in the WAFL and could come in if needed too, remembering that he was picked up as a 19 year old rather than an 18 year old.

The reason is our talls perform way better at Peel than any of the smalls

If Sturt was available I reckon we would have seen him in at some point instead of Omac atleast

We have no smalls that are ready to come into the forward line, atleast none that outperform the talls

It's unusual as a Freo supporter to not be begging for talls lol

Well, he was right. OMac played 7 games as a fill in third tall forward and we went 6-1

Agree. We need smalls pushing for spots.

I remember when Ben Hobbs was compared to Joel Selwood, not to rip into the lad but I never saw it. I doubt Selwood would be the type of player/leader to tell all interstate clubs he has no interest in leaving Victoria. Hope he gets another chance and it would be pretty ironic if it were an interstate club that picked him up.

Problem isn't him, it's that an environment has been created where someone feels comfortable and safe enough to share information like that.

I think if you enter a national draft and are prepared to get paid accordingly, to then let half the clubs know you don't want to play for them is a bit of a slap in the face. Archie Perkins and Bailey Smith also come to mind.

Most of OMac’s games were Key Back. He played I reckon the 3 games earlier in the year (when Voss was suspended) as ruck relief and forward. The rest were whilst APearce was out. Draper was first choice but he was out of form for a bit there and rightly replaced him and did a good job. His form back at Perl particularly when settled as key back was excellent.

He can fit a few roles and at Peel will likely spend majority of his time as KPD or KPF. Nicholls hopefully with a proper PS will step up further in the forward line.

I still think we need a mature ruck if not for Peel predominantly but one that can play in the forward line a bit so that Riddle gets his fair share of ruck contests. Riddle is still forward ruck from what I’ve seen. Takes a nice overhead mark. He gets monstered by the bigger bodied mature rucks like Free, Jones and Eastland.

We absolutely need a back-up ruck, even if he's just a rookie pick or an SPP. While it's an absolute nightmare scenario to have Jackson and Darcy both injured, but we actually came pretty close to it in 2025 (had to rush Darcy back for rounds 6, 7, 8, to cover Jackson's hammy, when we'd have much rather slowly built Darcy's fitness through limited WAFL minutes). Darcy is, unfortunately, a lot more injury-prone than we'd like—so as soon as Jackson is out for any reason, things get very dicey indeed.

We cannot be running Treacy + Voss as rucks and expect to win any game against moderately competent opponents. There goes our midfield; there goes our forward structure.

You cannot allow a potential outcome of, essentially, automatically conceding games for the risk factor of (one quite injury-prone player gets injured or suspended)*(one non-injury-prone player gets injured or suspended). Even if that's a 1% chance, it's too much.

Brynn Teakle or Tom Fullarton would be my picks as break in case of emergency rucks.

Honestly disagree with this

Think Voss/Treacy/omac/riddle is a better AFL option than a state league ruck anyway

We are just wasting a list spot with a backup backup backup ruck

That's one too many "backup"s, which is the problem. We will have two rucks and they will both be playing AFL.

As I said, Voss and/or Treacy as a ruck costs us Voss and/or Treacy out of our forward line in a game. Omac is injury-prone himself and not competent as a ruck because it's a position he's never played serious minutes in (and he's also not big enough). Riddle has not really shown WAFL level ruck competence—I am optimistic about him as he develops, but on current form this would be conceding every ball-up as a hit-out to advantage for the opposition.

Covering off a catastrophe is not a wasted list spot—especially if you have to use that cover.

My preference would be rookie-ing Knobel. He's young and developing, so there's potential for some return on investment if his career goes in the direction we hope it does.

The qualities you want in a small forward; clean hands, agility, burst of speed, nous, kicking.. I don't think you find all of them outside of a serious midget without any fitness in the rookie draft.

You absolutely will find 175-180cm midfielders who work their butts off with lots of muscles, average speed but continually moving, maybe great hands and a quality set shot routine. These poor guys will work hard all game for years and then get dropped for an 18 year old whippet of a zippy kid who can't stand up straight in a stiff breeze drafted with a pick in the first or second round.
