This is simply not worth overthinking. We needed an option to cover off the low probability-extreme disaster scenario where Darcy and Jackson are both unavailable for selection. There's no way we'll play Cox as a main ruck if Luke Jackson is available (given how good Jackson has been as a sole ruck), and it seems pretty unlikely we'd play Cox as a ruck-forward either—we are already so tall in our forward line with Amiss, Treacy, Voss.
It's part of the cost of a game plan based around 2 genuine rucks.

Recruiting a 35 year old with a moderate CV is a bit of a headscratcher.

Nothing against Mason but I would prefer someone who at least had the possibility of some upside. Mason’s upside is zero.

I'm not advocating for Mason Cox here but the balance of the choice is between;
A player who already has shown capacity to play at AFL level - playing in a flag win two years ago - but is only available due to age.
OR,
A player who is available due to not showing capacity to play at AFL level, at least not yet.

One of those is far more likely to offer anything for the squad in 2026 than the other but you're buying what you see and know where it's trending - rather than buying what you hope comes out with development that another team couldn't extract.

We're not rebuilding, we're challenging. Cox can give us what we need if we need it - an AFL proven replacement in case of injury.

Do I need remind you of a famous prelim in 2018?

I come in peace here, just want to say you guys are getting an absolute jet. Will watch on with interest, the man can play, especially when his back is against the wall.

He's handy and free, but no jet. More than happy to have him for some depth. Though I do think there's a chance he'll take Amiss' spot if his from doesn't improve.

Its a cheap roll of the dice, considering he has gone ok with Collingwood on occasions when there were very few fellow talls in the forward line he might go ok if needed and surrounded by Treacy, Voss, Jackson, etc. now.

Man, why is he an idiot?

Bloke seems genuine when they interview him and has genuine passion for wanting the game to grow.

(He’s rightfully pointed out, the AFL missed a trick not giving away international rights for free during the international COVID sport shutdown).

Considering he’s got to be made of tough stuff to move to another country and play this sport at the highest level (and win a premiership) - I’d say he’d plenty to offer than a back up in the WAFL we’d never play anyway.
He’s an absolute tosser, have a look at his carry on on the field and on social media.

Absolute sideshow act, and if anyone in our crowd starts the USA USA bullshit I’ll absolutely spew up.

Haven’t liked the guy for years, and hope Darcy and Jackson stay fit and he rots away at Peel.

Rather we picked up a a good WAFL ruck, bring Strnadica back.
