And they outclassed Pies twice in a row... at MCG.
Geel smashed them - then got smashed
BNE got smashed many times this season, including by us.

It’s shows that performance ebbs and flows
Our record against BNE over the last few years has been very good.

So please don’t imply that my belief they DO NOT have an unassailable superiority is simply one eyed.

They finished 3rd and with a percentage of 110% after the home and away season.
lost first final looking very ordinary.
History will say they were best in it. They were best when it mattered.

The way they turned it on v Geelong and Pies during the season showed they’re were just doing what was necessary whilst setting themselves up for September. A well coached team that has been there, done that.

They’ll be hard to beat, but everyone will be studying them and working out their weaknesses and anything can go wrong at the wrong time.

It can also be difficult to get up week after week when they’ve have the success. They were probably helped this year by such an even comp that one win can be the difference between 3rd and 9th.

Agree with all those who point out the power of Lions'' midfield power.
Absolutely, you need a lot of things go your way and it didn’t for us. Pendles calf, Howe, McCreery, De Goey, Schultz constantly injured all year, Hill MIA and Mihocek playing injured.

Could’ve and should’ve been our year but wasn’t.
Very true.
We looked much closer to defeating Brisbane than Geelong did.
Loss of Pendles at the start was massive.
Think the issue is that Brisbane has far more depth.
We had potentially Checkers and Jem Howe as not fully fit to play.
We felt compelled to play them though, because our back ups were non-existent
Brisbene had several of their best 22 injured, yet the replacements were immense.
Feel that Brisbane won this year on the basis of their depth.

Hopefully next year with another preseason into our youngsters, we can start to create a gradient of depth:
a) Harvey Harrison
b) Reef McInnes
both tested at AFL level, and both to come in like new recruits next year.
c) Charlie West,after another preseason,ready to rock n' roll season 2026.
d) Get games into Jiath, HDM (if he is worth keeping, he should be ready by now)

Main priority: get a big bodied midfielder.

Lions have the one thing that wins flags, a midfield that bats very very deep, have speed, aerial and strength - forwards and back are serviceable at best!

Cats “dropped like it hot”

Their small forwards are lethal when the ball hits the deck and it showed when they started piling on the pressure in the 3rd and 4th.

McCreery Long and JDG not big enough?

Geelong were f***ed at that point...an amazing mental capitulation tbh.

In terms of piling on the goals, definitely. But when the game was still there to be won, their small forwards made it very difficult for the Cats to generate that run out of defence. They made the Cats rush kicks, and were first to the loose ball far too often. I thought it was pivotal, along with Andrews being a collosus in defence.

I very much enjoyed watching the Cats choke under that pressure. Dined out on a feast of schadenfraude haha.

Would have preferred a Cats win. The Lions were a bit off for most of this year, but they're a big chance of a three-peat.
Yes,big chance.
But i think it is a risk worth taking.
Fagan seems a nice guy, not arrogant, and warm.
Surely you don't want that smug a***hole Chris Scott celebrating over a GF win after his team was carried by a super soft draw and is continually favoured by the willingness of the AFL to turn a blind eye to their salary cap cheating.

Will watch replay to notice this.

Midfielders medal mk2 should have been won by Harris Andrews. Impassable today.

All the players you mention as theoretically improving our position are yet to truly make their stamp on the VFL let alone AFL.
