Sides just can't carry players who aren't good users by foot anymore, not in the way the game is currently being played.

Not to be controversial - but he also sounds a bit like Lachie Murphy?
After your assessment of Joel Freijah as a draft prospect I think it might be prudent for you not to comment on a draftee you've never seen play

We've had both Jake Kelly and Ben Keays come into the side and be terrible kicks that got them up to average. That's both a credit to them on how hard they worked on their skills too. Same thing Tsatas will need to do if he's to have a career.

With that being said, I still think it's crazy to spend a top 5 pick on a guy who don't have a fundamental skill like kicking down to at least an average level to start with.

Put it this way he'd be way way better than any midfielder we'd draft with those picks in this year's draft.

He's only 20 and he was a pick 5 for a reason.

Do you think Rankine is a better midfielder than he is a forward, I don't.

There'll be other vic clubs looking at him. Our salary offer would need to beat out the rest get him to leave home, and he wouldn't be guaranteed best 22

I would go hard at Brennan Cox to be our CHB and train Nick Murray to replace Walker when he Retires

Seems a bit extreme for a third tall role (especially as it's harder to go from defense to forward then forward to defense).

I would prefer to go with Butts, Keane & Worrell like we have at present & draft another key position player when Tex retires.

I kind of like idea of having Murray train with the forwards

He's probably too talented to not be included in the best 23 when fit and in form and he may be a handy stop gap up forward short term and still provide flexibility if either Butts or Keane are injured?

He could do the 2nd ruckman grunt work too rather than Thilthorpe

It's good that you got that one right. You shouldn't feel so sensitive - I could only find one post where I mentioned Freijah in his draft year, and it was me agreeing with you.

I think it's okay to point out that you do get obsessed with one or two draftees every year, and post about them a lot. If this guy is the one for this year, I was just pointing out that your description and the content isn't vastly different from how folks described Murphy is draft year.

Lets be honest, I wouldnt be picking on someone for getting something wrong if I were you.....

Fair to say that Mutineer had more credence (whether right or wrong - honestly, mostly right) over draftees, though? I don’t really understand what the problem is with having a so-called ‘obsession’ over one or two players?

Oh, it's no issue from me.

I probably get more frustrated when folks post over and over again about players they don't like (like certain Keays obsessives) than I do about posters doing the same about players they like.

Bick’s record is actually pretty great. He also puts his cards on the table early, way before most phantoms land. He watches a ton of junior footy and makes his own opinions. I would take his opinion on a potential draftee over anyone else on here, and that’s saying something, because we have a few good judges of juniors.

Mutineer really nailed the freijah call

Gets a few wrong but gets alot right that we wouldn’t know about otherwise

I think people can hardly take shots at Bicks when a player he rated didn't end up making it as a player to the level Bicks held him at.

The AFL clubs spend millions on watching and rating the talent in the drafts. They have dozens of talent scouts around the country watching every kid and writing detailed reports back to the club. They interview the kids coaching staff at their school and club. They sit down and interview the kids family and friends, and then the actual kid himself. They spend hundreds and hundreds of hours watching game tapes, cutting up highlights, and putting every play and disposal under a microscope. It gets deeper than that even, but the point I am making is that list managers with 10,000 times the IP on the kids than Bicks has, still get the majority of their calls wrong.
If they can't nail 50% of their calls, I'm not sure anyone can expect Bicks to.
