Jay-Z
North's Enforcer
We begin the home stretch now with just 3 weeks to go to secure our spots in the league finals.
Last week threw up some great big scores with the likes of Merrett, NAS and Marshall all bagging a 140+ and another 5 players helping themselves to 130+ but it wasn't without drama either. B. Sniff was a late withdrawal again for this 3rd missed game of the year and whilst it's hard to complain about a guy who starting the season at $598k and has averaged 121 from there, complaining is what we fantasy players do best so we find a way!
Some coaches took their complaints as far as trading him out and are now faced with the debate of when/if you get him back in. This week he faces GWS again who he gave a nice little 149 down at the cattery earlier in the year. Let's hope he's fully fit for those of us who held him. In other sad news, the 6k or so coaches who traded in Caldwell last week hoping to finally get a decent/consistent mid option were treated to a 79 and a season ending ankle surgery.
Unsurprising then, Caldwell is the number 1 most traded out player this week. With Long, ZJohnson, Serong and Doch are all getting the boot from a number of teams as well.
The trade in targets this week are lead by rookie downgrade option George Stevens (BE -14, L1 84) who impressed first up but has all the usual caveats about job security at Geelong (i.e. he has none). Merrett's (L3 99, BE 87) nice little 145 last week seems enough for many coaches to bring him back this week and he's the number 1 non-rookie target with a juicy matchup against the Tiges this week before he hits danger town with 4 of the top 6 tagging teams and the red flagged Bulldogs in his next 5 after that.
Behind Merrett a lot of coaches are correcting the 50/50 call last week and turning Caldwell into Errol Gulden (L3 107, BE 106) who seems back to his incredible best after a late start to the season. Though like Merrett (and a lot of the top mids atm) he comes with the tag flag facing Windhager and Bedford in his next 3. Zach Butters (L3 102, BE 89) and the Bont (L3 108, BE 85) face similar concerns but are pretty good value at mid 900s and the top 7 targets is rounded out by safer targets in Macrae (L3 105, BE 80) and McKercher (L3 109, BE 41). On the flip side of the aforementioned red runs, Macrae's run home looks juicy!
We should have some good scores to look forward to this week... Brisbane should have a feast against Vossy's "deplorable" blues tonight and the Daicos bros (if they recover from a bout of man-flu) look ready to take Merrett's sloppy seconds in Gold Coast tomorrow night. Then on Saturday night Merrett and N.Martin will be out to beat their combined 315 point outing against the Tiges from earlier in the year. So having said all that, I look forward to a whole bunch of disappointing 80s and 90s to continue the trend
