Autopsy 2025 Round 18: Swans swindle slow Saints

I already like Ross the person. He is a great speaker, funny dude, very likeable.

I will like Ross the coach when he remembers how to win football games, something he has found immensely difficult his last 7 seasons of coaching.

Personally, I do think he has been figured out a touch and we are running with an outdated game plan. I find him stubborn and unwilling to try different rotations resulting in us regularly losing the same way. We play conservative football favouring bombing down the line to undersized forwards.

That is not just Lyon though. Where is Bolton? Our forward structures have been very poor all year.

Ultimatley, I am finding it hard to envisage us having any kind of edge in the coaching box.

I mean Richmond and North are winning more than us over a 3 month period. How can we say we have talent on the list but also claim we are well coached when we can't win a game of football?

I am very surprised just how comfortable people are with 2-11. 2 wins in 3 months ffs🤪

So glad somebody finally said it.

I've heard it all before, Occam's razor they say, cutting all the experience from the list and focusing on youth with an eye towards the future takes time. Yeah, right! I'd like some substance for this theory. Is there any evidence ANYWHERE in the AFL that playing young players makes it harder to win? I don't think so.

Ross made the finals in his first year back, and then the list was cut to the bone. So they should have done BETTER in 2024. And losing Membrey and Battle? Who cares, it's only a couple of goals for and a couple of goals against. It shouldn't make a difference at all. You get a first-round draft pick for Battle.

And you only have to look at the Dockers list that Lyon left behind; he definitely should have done better with it. Their list was so good that they made the finals 3 years after his sacking and might even make the finals again this year!

Went to the game. Some okay signs. So many times we take the wrong option, look poorly drilled.

We have won 2 games since round 4. The Tigers have won 3. They were widely predicted to have a winless season.

RTB just doesn't know how to get it done. An unbelievably bad season with the talent we have on the list.

Have grave concerns this coaching group will butcher a talented list personally.
That’s one of your shittest takes Bill and there’s been some….

Bit of mayo on both of these.

Yes, when Ross came in the expectation was to get more out of the list.

That narrative is done now.

They clearly understand that a list turnover was needed and the transition from the Steele & RoMa generation running the team to Nas, Hall, Garcia, Windy etc taking over has almost been completed.

Don't forget that the major reason we thought there was more to come from the list was because the training standard and development programs had slipped well behind what the board were expecting.

As for the Crows;

Plenty had predicted them for this sort of rise 12 months ago. Last season was a disaster for them with plenty calling for Matty Nicks to get sacked.

They managed it well, backed him in, went shopping for a few important pieces and bounced right back up.

Nothing stopping TDK + 1-2 others from doing the same for us.

How is it mayo if that was our stated plan? You guys are like the MAGA nuff-nuffs trying to backflip on Trump and the Epstein files. He's failed to meet his own goals and should be held to a higher standard.

We are a better more advanced list than North, WCE and Richmond a with very good top end, we have less injuries than Essendon. Carlton are a more shock collapse but we are every bit as disappointing.

I hope Bassat has his eyes on the footy department and not letting go of the leash again.

This is what happens when a person with no money downloads Sportsbet, if you can’t be prepared to lose you shouldn’t be betting at all.
Rarely bet on the footy, but it I lose a multi because a player doesn’t kick enough goals, or whatever. That’s not their fault lol, it’s my fault for putting them in the bet.

Poor bloke probably won’t pay rent this week because he thought he was onto a winner.

Very cowardly to send a message like that with a fake account. Footy players must cop some complete dribble from the dregs of society.

Must not have seen Grundy destroy our rucks and set up the winning goal today.

Must also have seen his contract where Collingwood are paying Grundy to play at his third club still while Cameron looks like he should be the AA ruck this year and he's on minimum chips.

Richmond, West coast, essendon, North Melbourne, Gold coast (finally coming good now).....that's just off the top of my head from the last few years....

all playing young...all can't find wins

but yes...carry on you absolute numpty...

If I see any of you TDK naysayers on the TDK train next season I’ll get stocker to throw you off the Carriage… Toot Toot all aboard.

He can play footy, I just don't want his contract.

I was being sarcastic

I would say Ross is the 2nd worst performed coach in the comp this season after Voss. It's bloody hard to argue otherwise.
Based on what?

The pre-season predictions were that we'd finish 13th-15th

We're currently 15th after having a horrible fixture, with easier games upcoming

Every chance we finish ahead of Essendon, Melbourne and maybe Carlton. Maybe even Port- they've got a tough run home

We'll be 11th-14th which is roughly where we were supposed to be. Ahead even.

He’s in a bit of a bind here cause if we finish higher than 15th he’s yet again got the late season, utterly pointless bounce.

Collingwood had significant cap issues.

We do not.

What’s your point here? A mythical issue we may never ever face.

Some ****wit had a crack at Nas on insta with a bit of racism.

He also took Freo to the GF
If that team had kicked straight especially early set shots these highly skilled players would be premiership players
Spurr
Suban
Sutcliffe
Mzungu
Deboar
Mayne
It's a miracle freo made the GF with that list

I'm an ex ruck, so perhaps a bit biased. But we need TDK. For those thinking it's wasted money, perhaps the price is steep but it doesn't negate that TDK will make our lives better.

If a ruck is halving the contest it can seem that they aren't doing much but halving the contest is important because nobody including their midfield knows where it is going. Halve the contest then a ruck that gets around the ground and becomes an additional midfielder or key position player is a real asset.

But if a ruck is getting dominated its such a disadvantage, and I'm not sure why, because Rohan used to be a bit more competitive on this front, but at the moment he is getting destroyed and that is significant. It puts their midfield on the front foot because they know everytime where the ball is likely to end up.

That last quarter, Grundy and their midfield won that game. That has happened a lot this year with Ro rucking. As I've said, I want him to stay. He is a clunking mark and a great kick for goal. But if you don't think a TDK will make us better, I think you are very much mistaken.

Signing players to massive long term deals has rarely ended top a positive. Especially for a project ruck who's only a few years younger than Marshall.

Massive long term deals are the going rate to sign players.

Didn’t your favourite Battle get a 6 year deal to go to Hawthorn?
Perryman got 6 years at the pies etc.

That is the game today.

TDK will be fine.

He’s only in a slump because he’s been playing forward and he’s not a forward.

Can’t wait to see him running around dominating next year in the Red White and Black.
Added to that, TDK being played where he shouldn’t be is likely a tactic of Carlton to try and bring our offer down so he stays. He was the best ruck after the first 6 weeks. Then Carlton got the gist that he was leaving and also with their terrible form decide to play him where he’ll have no impact. He will be a ****ing gun for us next year

Moose looked good but let's not go blowing up over 8 touches and a goal. TDK was putting up midfield numbers at the start of the season.

Definitely keep the kid in for the last few games but maybe see what happens over a month or two.
Yeah it pretty much means we don't need Boyd. But not a lot more.
