O'Farrell and Carroll will be something special, Cowan will be a good player. Charleson will be a really good player similar to Newman. I think Moir has it in spades and will be very good as well.

Lemmy I want to see him played, I just want to see what he can do in an AFL system when the ball is kicked to him, not everywhere but. We need to know before he goes. Has made big strides this season, mostly in the area of making sure the ball comes to ground.
Since Cowan has come back in (and seeing him live this week) he has really gone up in my estimations

It was a really great moment.
But, he is struggling.
And to me it is much more of a last grasp year than building off an ACL.

Many of our players are "struggling" and have all year. How many have had close to their best years?

Are people drawing a conclusion based on his age and injuries only? He could just be having a bad year (like many do and are) and with a full pre season could bounce back

I'll wait for more evidence before drawing a conclusion. For all the focus on him Docherty is the least of our issues

That's fair.
But I wouldn't say he's the least of our issues.

And, while certainly not the only factors, age, injury and contract still need to be considered.

Throw in Carroll, Cowan & O Hollands starting to find a grove off half back and the potential of L Camporeale and Cottrell to push for a wing role next year (and hopefully we prioritise a quality wingman in the trade period) and you start to ask where would he fit.

Nice problem to have when Docherty is depth or back up

Not sure I would be getting hyped about ANY of what the 'kids' brought to the table against that rabble.

I didn't see a 'game changer', 'eye catcher', 'super quick', 'deadly by foot' player out there at all.

When a team has been poor, it's only natural to hang on to something, but, I didn't see it.

Having said that, Moir is easily the pick of that bunch, he could be ANYTHING, and I believe midfield is his calling...

Matt Carroll had 10 intercepts 0 turnovers and a goal assist that came from a bullet pass to Moir

They must believe and have no doubt at all about being out there.
Once that "concern" has been extinguished in their own minds....well, it's like a release and their confidence grows and away they go.
Agree BD. That expression from Carroll after he kicked that goal summed it up, it was like a battle cry scream and release.

Great to see his teammates genuinely excited and get around him. I think these efforts are great for the young players confidence and also energise the whole team. More please.

It's the hardest thing to assess. There was little pressure and younger players had more space and time than they were used to and thrived on it

Positive is they stood up when chance arrived. Carroll bounced back from bad game last week and I thought Cowan's game was excellent regardless. Moir played deeper and was given a ridiculous amount of space. Positive was his finishing

I still hate how we are using Lord but he found more of the ball. HOF is just not physically ready but his football poise and skill is there for all to see

A win and more ball will always help but they will need to be a lot better this week if Hawks bring any pressure. For young players it's about how they deal with added pressure and lack of space that can be difference

This week will tell a lot if they got much out of last game or not. We won't truly know until it happens

HOF's spoil where he almost jumped of the pack and Cowan's excellent contested mark (after which he turned it over immediately) were examples to me of what is to some as they gain more experience at the level

That might explain some/all of the 10 intercepts but not the 0 turnovers or the bullet pass

It could. Carroll is a lovely ball user but so far hasn't adjusted to pressure or lack of space of AFL. Last Friday would have felt like freedom

It will come but nothing that happened against Demons changed my mind one way or another. I never judge a young player after 1 game or even 20.

It was.

Docherty has been heavily criticised this season.

People need to stop looking at Docherty as a 31 year old, which is not old. And view him as a player coming back from an ACL.

This is not the agenda of this forum but I think unless DOcherty is struggling, he is not done yet. Yes it's obvious, he looks like a player who is first year back from an ACL, his agility is typical of that.
I think that he should have been used sparingly this year to allow his knee to fully settle. He has been shocking at times, but he has also been his usual self. If he decides to continue next year, he should once again, be used sparingly. We have youth coming through that deserves the game time to improve their skills at the top level. It should be the same with Newman as well.

True but if you are looking for "deadly by foot" and see what Carroll delivered (even under the apparent lower pressure) in his 12th career game surely anyone could see, as you say, "it will come".

I would even go as far to say that had Saturday night been Carroll's third game it would not have felt like freedom - but having experienced the extreme pressure the Lions brought the drop off was noticeable - that is to say he is starting to adjust

The view must have been obscured hiding behing the couch.

We don't win the game without any one of Carroll, Lord, Cowan and Moir having the night they did.

First week they've really taken the load off our senior core.

It has to be remembered they had that performance in a team that also included White, F Young & O'Farrell along with players like Evans, Motlop, O Hollands & Durdin who are around the 50 game mark

Is White on the wings the cake or icing on top type of player? :p

amazing collection of highlights from our young players.

Each of them played their roles really well.

Moirs awareness and his goal kicking are superb in a time when we desperately need more goal kickers.

Kicking 4-5 goals in one game is a sensational achievement for a very young and inexperienced player at afl level.
