Probably comes down to where the manager sees him maximise life after footy opportunities, where he can play in a successful side and what kind of outside footy marketing opportunities etc are going to come from.

There are no guarantees in footy. Judd, Buckley and plenty of others went off chasing success and saw none of it while people who thought that they were going to make up numbers have flags.
