I think a future first is acceptable. But two is too much, even if we get a high second round back. We would need at least a second and third round back imo.
It won't be two first rounders, norf are pulling their own chain

I agree with the sentiment, but I don’t see it being so dire beyond next year. I would hope the addition of Simpkin could offset the decline/ loss of Steele or Crisp given he was able to have a greater output this year than them.

Perryman moving into the midfield and hopefully being replaced by Parker would mitigate the demise of Pendles.

We only need one youngster such as R Steele or Allan to come on or McCreery to put it all together along with another pro scout recruit or two post 2026 and all 5 holes are potentially addressed as early as 2027. It’s not insurmountable.
You are replacing A Graders in all those positions though. That doesn’t just happen . We should probably add Degoey to that list a couple more season before his body is potentially no longer serviceable.

Aside from the absolute nonsense of wanting to throw two firsts at him, you do understand that Melbourne have absolutely no say in the club he goes to, right? We aren’t in the US where teams can just trade players without their consent.
I would worry about a gym session with Goodwin, the people he associates is why he has had issues in the past or maybe still the present. Either way not a good idea.

I agree. I reckon that's got hairs on it. Goodwin couldn't get him to train properly when he was coach

This was a ridiculous move at the time, and somehow even looks worse now.
Tigers must have thought all their christmases had come at once.

Henry Played 15 odd games for us in 22. His value was destroyed by the fact everyone in the AFL knew he was hellbent on getting to Geelong and didn't want to play for anyone else. I think he could well end up as one of the biggest wasted talents of the last 5 years.
I was torn. He was a potential quality forward I wanted at Collingwood. He was a one way runner, lazy and screaming at VFL team mates when he left. The latter was training for his time at Geelong.

I'm not being nasty but I wouldn't be surprised if Ollie is on the lower end of the spectrum.

Henry lost his spot to Ash Johnson didn’t play in the finals and then we went out and recruited McStay and Hill.

He wasn’t in the best team by the end of 2022 and was further down the pecking order after our recruitments.

Getting a future first for a flakey outside marking forward that has a limited ground level game, doesn’t apply any pressure and wasn’t in our best 23 was always a fantasy.
I prefer the more comfortable approach of trashing Geelong and Mackie. It’s nourishing.

Thanks manicpie for your “come at me post”. I think the quality of posts improved today. Many posters had high emotions and some stuff was personal over the last period. The voicing of opinions has been good.

Fiorini is a name I’ve said on this forum every year for the last few years

Pies almost got him at one stage too

Would be a shame to see Essendon get him for cheap

Only 28 and has played a variety of roles in midfield and defence

Has decent run which is something that the pies will be exposed more and more as Sidebottom, Pendles, crisp age

And with Lipinski being slow

Seems strange to still have Mitchell unsigned and on the list… and not make moves for in trade period

* I don’t consider the Oliver stuff as ever having advanced beyond a request for a chat

See what happens with Simpkin

GCS are taking a punt on JUH on their terms.
Why can’t we do the same with Elijah Hollands? He’s a very good footballer.
We’d need to do our extended DD just like GCS have with JUH.
We don't need a player that plays the position of Hollands. And that's before taking into consideration his off field issues.

The early word is that the first round will be compromised yet again.
Unlikely to be quite so compromised given the new rules. Teams with early bids to match will have to use good picks to match them with. Could actually make 2026 second rounders more valuable tbh.

No to Simpkin. Keep our picks and give Ed Allan a proper run in the midfield.

But he’s had a proper run in the middle, in a position where we could afford to give him a role as a link / running player on a wing. Problem is he was OK but didn’t set the world on fire and his kicking is iffy so it’s hard to see him succeed there long term.

Unless you mean playing him as the inside mid next to Nick & co in which case I will say at this stage he can’t as he seems to be the quintessential ‘wait outside the pack for the loose ball’ player. Maybe if he had shown more willingness to go for the hard ball with his 195cm/90kg frame but otherwise we’re not in the business of the plucking players in positions they haven’t shown they can play.

The one example where he’s succeeded there is the Melbourne game last round 24 which had the lowest pressure of any AFL and VFL games we’ve played in the past 3 years.

I’m not giving up on him because he has the physical attributes but he’ll want to put his body on the line in the 2s if he wants to be an AFL inside mid and take a spot over a hypothetical Simpkin.

Allan got dropped for a largely untried MSD pick when it mattered. That tells you where he sits in the club rankings, for now at least. I would be very, very surprised if he impacted the senior list in any meaningful way next year. As in, he might play, but he'll most likely be a fairly middle-of-the-road role player and not someone who replaces peak Crisp, Sidey, Pendles. Aside from his physical attributes, his one highlight from the year involved a lot of running, which is great but hardly enough.

I don't know much about Simpkin but he would seem to fit a need and he is in a perfect age spot (26/27) to impact our midfield right NOW, when we need it. The last thing we need is more untried draft picks who will take 4 years to contribute anything to the first team. Our list is stacked with that type of player.

I should clarify by saying that simpkin makes sense to me, it doesn't mean we should persue him. I think he'll improve us and if the club agrees then cool. If not, no sleep will be lost by me. Now, how do we get this Humphrey fellow to talk

You’re replacing their 2025 output which had us 14-2 and 10 points clear. Keep that up and we’re premiers. None of those 5 were A graders at that point aside from Elliott and Steele for an early run of games.

They’re Old so no longer A grader’s physically - therefore easy to replace on that metric.
It’s their nous and onfield experience that will be hard to replace.

100% agree with your take

I see what you did there. You’re a funny old fellow.

I too am on the fence re Simpkin. If we get him cheap msybe worth a punt but no reason for North to get rid of him cheap as far as I’m aware

Humphrey is out of our reach I think.

A Hogan type reform, easily makes Holland an A grader. He’s the full package.

I would be putting our DD into hyper overdrive.
