His right to play AFL was rescinded. Thomas was banned from the AFL due to his behaviour. That ban has now finished. What you are saying is akin to "lock him away and throw away the key" for a crime that our courts didn't even give jail time to.

People don’t get imprisoned in Victoria…

Sorry if this is far fetched, but is there a world where we give De Goey & our 2026 & 2027 2nd round picks to Hawks for their pick 9? And then turn pick 9 into Humphrey as GC need points for their two academy guns (with some haggling of picks if needed on both accounts)?
No, too far fetched, but not so far fetched that it was the worst suggestion I’ve seen since the trade period kicked off.

TT in terms of football ability and style is the exact player we need.

However, he has had multiple chances and doesn't deserve to be in the system.

For all the abuse May copped on here, I find it hard to believe that people would greenlight TT.

Just different principles to yours. I'd suggest one's less attached to archaic principles of banishment and more into rehabilitation.

Andy Krakouer did jail time. Dane Swan would have if he wasn't at a powerful footy club that could pull strings. Footy clubs should be proud of some of the lives they've turned around. I hope a club thinks they can and does so with Thomas.
Even if you think someone can rehabilitate from being a domestic abuser within 18 months, he was still arrested less than 6 months ago on drug charges. His period of “changed behaviour” isn’t very long.

I’m not sure how many additional chances sports clubs need to keep giving people who abuse women. For as many lives turned around by footy clubs, that you rightly mention, there are just as many if not more who have been empowered and/or protected in their mistreatment of women. I’m not comfortable with Collingwood being the place to give Thomas a 4th(?) chance, just like I never wanted Cousins

The AFL disagrees. We know they often make weird/poor decisions, but they must be closer to the situation than the media and BF posters and they have allowed him to rejoin the system after a suspension.
They don’t exactly have a ripping track record with holding domestic abusers accountable

Carlton might ask for Buller...

Maybe it won't happen after all 🤬😡😡
You are on the money here. This will be Wrights present to Pies. He will get the picks and ask for Haywood and Buller and Florent. But Florent can come later with a low pick anyway as Swans happy to move him.

Wright will then negotiate JDG with low pick and Buller from Pies.

Watch this space😡

This is just silly. We all loved the redemption story surrounding Andrew Krakouer who nearly beat a man to death. He not only got his life back on track but got a gig on a tv show and was welcomed with open arms any time he made a public appearance or did an interview. I'm not sure all of the details of Thomas's misdeeds have been released but DV covers a wide range of behaviours these days.

I think most people deserve a chance when they have Fd up.
Fly talks about Collingwood being a family club. No way we consider a guy who has threatened women. Let him get a second chance somewhere else.

Buller has requested a trade to Collingwood not Carlton. Wrights role at Carlton would be above the negotiating level. I don’t think De Goey has a huge return and he should stay.

As predictable a reaction as imaginable. How many chances exactly does Thomas deserve?

Stirring Cbs GIF by Big Brother

Buller will have already done his welcome vid for the socials team. Nothing’s happening with JDG.

So much wasted internet ink over the past 18 hrs for a guy that has less chance of being on a list in 2026 than every single poster on here! The guy won’t get another chance because he’s culture cancer.

For context he’s a considerably greater risk than JUH with considerably less talent and JUH has survived in the system by the skin of his teeth. If by some miracle he gets another chance its state league for 2026 with a shot at a rookie spot in 2027. It’s bizarre that’s its stirred up so much commentary on here!

I'm sorry 😔

True, which I acknowledged. However, they did the right thing in suspending him.

Given the potential blowback if he transgresses again, I doubt they lifted the suspension without a lot of consideration.

I don't trust them entirely, but I trust more than a BF poster to know the situation.

Moreover, isn't our legal system based on the fundamental principle that people can be rehabilitated?

I still recall some of the same names in this thread, jump the gun and call for JDG to never be allowed to play again.

"Essendon’s reaction was that the offer was “so far off the mark that it doesn’t even dignify a formal response”.

How can two first rounders, a second rounder among others not even dignify a formal response?

It's Hawthorn. Essendon are doing the right thing. Someone needs to put that smug Sam Mitchell back in his place.

The one thing Mitchell didn't bank on was Welsh. Mitchell's plan is to create a divide between the player and club, to the point that the player cannot return. Hawks then pick the player up under market value.

If that was possible, why wouldn't Hawthorn just trade their pick 9 for Humphey?

When it’s Essendon. They are so far away from finals yet they are so full of themselves they can’t see it.

Trade Merrett and get those picks so you build your next finals team because even if Merrett plays another 4yrs they won’t be playing close to the top 8.

In terms of big game impact if I’m the Hawks I’d rather De Goey. Merrett will give more consistency of performance and availability. If I want to win a final I’m going De Goey.

Would we keep 9 and use the 2026 first for Simpkin if the same offer came our way?

Honestly, I don't mind a quiet trade period. Get Buller to replace checkers and done.

End of next year, you would imagine 2 of the 3 if not all 3 will retire in Sidebottom, Pendles and Howe. Free's up a lot of cash, on top of this year freeing up Cox who was on ok coin, Mitchell, Checkers (Buller won't be on as much) WHE. Obviously have some players contract's that will have to be resigned in 26. However we will then have first rounds to trade and should have a war chest of cash to go after King and Butters, or whoever else might be there. Assuming we will have another go at Humprey

Be that as it may, looking at it objectively, 2 first rounders and a second rounder isn't a bad start.

North, West coast , Richmond, Melbourne , port Adelaide aren't going to swap their Future Firsts.

The only option is to try to get one of carlton, st kilda or the dogs involved in potentially getting them to send their first round picks to essendon as part of a 3 way trade.

Either that or they part with someone far better than hustwaithe.

If the hawks were to shift towards de goey (not expecting it to happen) and if they did offer pick 9, I still would not touch simpkin at all.

Would prioritize drafting mids over trading for a 27yr old mid.
