I went to trai

I was there as well today, Reef came back out and completed the training so he seemed fine, I didn't see Nick at all, the boys looked sharp, I thought Lippas kicking stood out during the competitive drills, Darcy Cameron's marking also stood out, I felt sorry for Steene when he was up against him, Darcy was too good. Joel Selwood was there the whole training, not sure why as I never usually go either, just took the opportunity while we were in Melbourne. Was a really good experience and the boys were happy to sign autographs and pose for photos with my kids.

What were your thoughts on Houston, Perryman and Membrey?

DC said Josh will be back in full training next week.
Nick is progressing well and mitchell is about to start running for the first time.
Great news. However, I'd rather Nick had a month off and missed the start of the season, than to train through injury and either re-injure or make it worse in the long run

Houston's kicking was great, hits targets and they get there fast, I thought Perryman was bigger than what he actually is, everything he did he did well though, didn't notice Membrey much, I feel like I noticed the midfielders and Darcy Cameron more so than any of the big guys though

I seen a Will Hayes highlight on one of the training feeds. Outside of the foot drop punt that hit a team mate lace out. Naicos like. Im excited about him with his pace and ball use
I already have him down as becoming one of my faves. Let's hope we're right from the little bit we've seen of him.

I've loved him since his draft video 🤣

Yeah that’s not how rehab works.

Great feedback. Thanks. I think that trio of recruits is hugely important to our chances in 2025.

This sort of weapon with a return to our 2023 run out of the backline is an exciting prospect. Especially with Bobby pushing up higher when needed. Membrey also at times

Pre-season training: January 22.

9:30-11:30

Rehab:

HH continuing his post ACL recovery doing some lateral movements, and moving side to side holding a stick above his head.
Jordy did some running, but was also involved in some drills.

Josh was seen in some drills, he'll be back in full training next week.

The draftees were absent, plus parker and Smit as I figured around this time of year was the induction for the kids entering the afl. Given Parker and Smit were either taken mid season or after this time of year, it was something they missed last year.

It was a light craft based session that focused on the fundamentals. Line groups. Pressure drill that seemed to focus on using defence to create offence. So maybe around using turnover to attack by using pressure.

Later there was a drill focused on transition, which was interesting to see how quick they want to move the ball. Lets see how it comes off in games.

I've heard that Coxy's grandfather has passed away and that's his reason for his return home.

Players of note:

During the transition drill, Reef's marking and spoiling, using the defence as attack was prominent.
Macrae used the ball well coming out of HF and through the ground with good quick hands in transition.
Steene battled well against DC, who is much stronger, but he did well aerially and in the contest. You can clearly see he has put on some size. Hopefully gets a decent run at injury this year.

Pendles was very vocal in the drills, working his magic as he continues to lean into the coaching side of things.

Jakob Ryan told us that Friday's session will be brutal! So it may be one to head down to check out. More match sim I am anticipating.

Collingwood star Darcy Cameron says the Daicos brothers are both edging closer to full training as he hopes Mason Cox will continue to partner him in the ruck in 2025.

Cox has flown home to the US for family reasons this week as Cameron offered his support to the tall, who played second fiddle in a ruck-forward role for six goals from 16 games last season.

The 211cm veteran will face competition from not only a squeeze on forward line spots created by the arrival of Tim Membrey from St Kilda but also from 21-year-old specialist ruck Oscar Steene, who was impressive in the air during match simulation on Wednesday and also ran strongly during a 400m effort at the end of a drill.

Steene, who signed a one-year deal for 2025 towards the end of last season after a toe injury wiped out his entire campaign, ran towards the front of a pack led by Isaac Quaynor, whose conditioning looked closer to the levels that spurred his career-best 2023 campaign.

Cameron said Steene, still untried at senior level, had impressed him in drills along with last year’s mid-season recruit Iliro Smit.

“(Steene) is looking really good at the moment – he’s put on a bit of size, he’s running really well,” Cameron said.

“So is big Roo – Iliro Smit – they’re both doing really well at the moment.

“We haven’t really spoken much (about ruck plans) just yet, but hopefully what it looked like last year – I feel like I work really well with Mason, but that’s not my call at the end of the day.

“(Cox) has been training really well this pre-season, and my love goes out to him and his family at the moment.”

Josh Daicos (calf) appeared briefly during Wednesday’s training session for some light work along with star midfielder Jordan De Goey, but Nick Daicos was confined inside as he continued to recover from what the Magpies declared a “mild” case of plantar fasciitis.

Among the Magpies’ younger brigade, Reef McInnes continued to catch the eye in a new defensive role, while Harry DeMattia had a prominent on-ball role as he ran with the likes of Steele Sidebottom and Scott Pendlebury during match simulation.

Strong winds put pressure on the Pies’ foot skills, but McInnes was noticeably clean as he mopped up on the last line of defence and distributed the ball confidently while keeping a lid on his direct opponent Beau McCreery.

Cameron said McInnes was “hopefully” the replacement for premiership backman Nathan Murphy that the Magpies had sorely lacked last year.

“Murph was a really big out for us – you can’t replace a person like Nathan Murphy – but Reef has done a really good job of bringing his strengths,” he said.

“He’s training really well, and that move down back is looking really good for him.”

Up forward, Dan McStay moved sharply and caused headaches for his opponent Charlie Dean, while Cameron also pushed forward aggressively to stretch the Magpies’ first-choice defence.

“F---ing talk to me, Chooka, f--k me,” Jeremy Howe yelled over his shoulder at Billy Frampton after Cameron pushed past him to come over the top of Howe in a marking contest.

The obligatory David King preseason pies talk up. Last year he said we were miles ahead of the comp. Does he only watch us train every preseason.

He goes to every vic club.
I was sitting with him this morning. Good man, Kingy.
Just a shame it wasn't a bigger session. He was hoping for some match sim.

To be fair he was right about us in 2023 when flogs like Lewis said we'd miss finals. That's a 50% strike rate for Kingy these past 2 seasons which is better than most experts!
