Well overdue. Only really behind Gabba for worst match day experience. It’s a complete knock down and redo job (other than the new stand).

Disagree. One of the best grounds I’ve been to for football and cricket (only behind the Adelaide Oval). I hope it never loses that character and becomes like a concrete jungle…

Cricket Australia need to start putting pressure on the SCG Trust. The Trust don’t give a stuff about the AFL or the Swans but they are much more vulnerable to an attack on their cricket hosting.

By the time the 2032 Olympics roll around the SCG is going to be by far the smallest and most outdated regular international cricket venue in the country.

They should be told they have no chance of hosting the big events (any semi final or final of a tournament as well as the New Year test) until they commit to upgrading.

Cannot disagree more from a footy watching perspective. It’s comfortably the worst regular home ground I’ve been to for viewing and for facilities.

The only thing about it that’s been improved in the 20+ years since I first went there is the light rail now being in place.

It's in Cricket Australia and the AFL's best interests to see the SCG undergo major renovations to bring it up to scratch and increase capacity. They should work together to pressure the SCG Trust / NSW Govt into committing to an upgrade of the venue.

After Round 8 (excluding Gather Round).

Our home avg would be closer to 50,000 if not for the cyclone warning vs Richmond
13,537 for Gold Coast’s match against us. Still the 3rd highest ever attendance for any Gold Coast vs Giants match ever (of 22 total games played).

A 1pm start would've got a couple of thousand more. The fact it was on a Sunday night with no early game + all the Fri night doubleheaders just shows the AFL's KPIs are for TV eyeballs not crowds.

Theres a PH in qld tommorow.

It's also worth noting that there are some Suns fans/attendees that live or work in Northern NSW who don't have a public holiday, so it still would have had some affect on the crowds.

I think this is what it lacks. Character.

Sure the two old stands are pretty and unique, then it sandwiched next to this ultra modern stand and then both are surrounded by pretty basic concrete stands.

Be interesting to see how they make it anything as cool as AO

The two old Heritage stands will never be demolished. The three old stands from the 1980s are the ones that will be knocked down and rebuilt (eventually).

It feels like there hasn’t been a bad crowd in a long time. They’re all about expectations or higher. After the pessimism of the first round crowds have been great.
The back in my day, game's turned to shit etc. is overblown but that's the way it goes usually, it starts strong then crowds drop off as teams fall out of contention and the weather gets worse.

That's why in july school holidays they end up doing kids go free promos*

There were $10-15 tickets to Carlton games late last year. I expect the same after the bye this time. The wildcard may mitigate the crowd drop off a bit.

*In Victoria only
