From what I have heard it looks like Bergman and JHF will be swapping time between the mids and forward line.

At this stage, it is expected that JHF will only play 20% of game time in the mids as he is coming from a long way back with his fitness after the foot surgery.

When JHF spends time in the mids, Bergman will be resting up forward, which is not a bad thing as he is a good overhead mark for his size.

I've had Bergman in my team all along but I'm seriously having doubts about starting him now. I feel he might get thrown around a bit like a mister fixit and at his price he needs to be a keeper. I'm getting SDK vibes from last year about him.

Start him for the first month then trade him. What i will likely do. Can always keep him as well if he tears it up.

He definitely won't be playing down back.

We have more options this year down in defence.

I suppose time will tell but I'm just a bit cautious. It's nothing against Bergman and it's all about the role he will play but he will be a big pre season watch in the practice matches.

Plus new coach.

Is Ridley cooked or could he be a potential premier? Tossing up between him and Bergman..

I feel like Bergman is the type of mid pricer that normally ends up disappointing.

He isnt that cheap, still has some doubt on role (3rd or 4th mid at best), and has limited scoring exposure in that role. Never really been a big ball winner.

At best you'd think he goes 100-105 which would be good but not a massive miss at 430k if you didnt start him. And at that average hes probably still not a guaranteed keeper.

Here2tellyouwhy. Watched Josh Worrell a few times last year. About to hit 25. Touch over 50 games. Looked a good player. High kick to handball ratio. Thoughts (will Keane injury impact him?). POD
Yeah kid can play and is super consistent but does sometimes play on talls and resting ruck.
Keane play on talls? if so it would impact Worrell for sure.
Maybe better options around his price too.

100-105 average is a keeper in DEF

Mostly its Port early fixture and lack of early bye thats tasty

Completely role dependant. If he plays mid, Easy pick. Only 4 selectable defs went above 105 last year and they are 140k or more, more expensive than him.

bergman and rivers starting to interest me.

having butters already, I dont want rozee and bergman. so will likely downgrade connor to miles, and bring rivers in as D3

Ive got the Port 3 and Rivers is still tempting me. Surely not all of Colby, Miles and Trent can go 100+

SDK and Perryman of yesteryear....

RISK IT FOR RIVERS?
🍀

Every SuperCoach season throws up countless players who sit right on the edge of genius and madness. Trent Rivers is shaping up as one of those picks in 2026.
On the surface he looks like a handy defender who plugs holes and ticks along, but when you look at Melbourne’s midfield situation and Rivers’ history when given responsibility, it becomes clear that something much bigger could be brewing.
❌
Melbourne’s midfield has been completely dismistaed! Clayton Oliver is gone. Christian Petracca is gone, Jai Culley is dealing with a short to medium term injury, and Jack Viney is rumoured to miss most, if not all, of the season. That leaves Jack Steele as the only recognised inside midfielder. Beyond him, the pecking order is unclear. Is it Pickett? Is it Langford? Or is it Trent Rivers, the player who has quietly proven that when he steps into the middle, he doesn’t just compete, he scores like a premium.
✅
The numbers tell a compelling story. Across his career, Rivers has averaged 89 from 15 games when attending more than 50% of centre bounces. When that figure rises above 60%, his average jumps to 91 across 10 games. Push him into a genuine on baller role with 70% or more CBAs, and he has averaged 109 from five games. That’s not a fluke statistic, that shows a clear upward pattern that Rivers thrives when the midfield responsibility is placed in his hands.
The traditional argument against Rivers has always been role security in defence. Melbourne have leaned on him as a reliable halfback, and the fear has been that there simply hasn’t been enough depth in his position comparatively to release him into the midfield. That may finally be changing. With Xavier Taylor and Xavier Lindsay drafted, Caleb Windsor stepping up, and Moniz-Wakefield training in defence, the Demons suddenly have coverage. Even without Bowey, they now have enough flexibility to allow Rivers to move away from the backline and into the engine room if the need arises.
From a SuperCoach perspective, the appeal is obvious. Rivers is sitting in just 2% of teams, he has no early bye to worry about, is heading into his prime age of 24 and carries genuine role driven upside. If he remains in defence, he’s a serviceable pick. But if he becomes Melbourne’s second midfielder behind Steele, he transforms into a potential season defining point of difference.
That’s the gamble. The risk is real, but so is the ceiling. And in a year where so many coaches are building safe, template teams, Trent Rivers looms as the kind of bold selection that can separate you from the pack. The opportunity is there, the numbers back it up, and the role looks more open than ever.
Miles Bergman is 9% more owned off the basis of a similar transiton and yet his opportunity is arugbly riskier. The only question now is whether you’re brave enough to take the leap?
Are you tempted?
