Trade down anyone? - Nope.

The watch on Harry Van Hattum * will be interesting, good chance that he grows over the next 12 months, currently 202cm.

Bid on Lucas Robinson ( The Unwashed will have to burn their first and second matching that đź–• ).

If I had to pick now - Heath Mellody is a class act, would be front of my wish list from those names ( * caveat on HVH see above comment ) but this post should be taken with a heavy grain of salt, because that list wont be anywhere close to what will eventuate as the top 10.

I think the great unwashed deserve a bid on Robinson for 3 reasons, one because he was in our NGA before he was poached, two he is a very good inside mid, three thay chose to bid on T Williams early!

It does seem like there are many more quality mids available in the open pool next year and I feel we need another elite mid to round out our midfield.
Always is the way too early look but interesting that Mellody is in the top 10 here and you have him high on your watch list.
From the mids I have watched videos of there is a group that could all push into the higher level:
Arkie Butler
Archie Van Dyke
Kodah Edwards
Cody Templeton
Heath Mellody

and a couple just outside that group:
George Gale
Jack Gordon

Looking forward to seeing how our young midfield progress and what piece needs to be added.

Would also be a very good option.

I'm keen to see how Elijah Williams (CL) goes in 2026. He showed really good improvement as a dashing rebounding defender and held his place in a powerhouse Claremont line-up.

Surprisingly Jamayson Ketchup (P) is not an NGA. One to watch. Fwd/Mid

It'll be interesting to see how tempted we are by another ruckman .

Be very interesting again seeing how Port, Carlton and Freo bank points to get their player.

Isn't there a change to the points system from next year where you can only use a maximum of two picks to make up the points for a match?

(That would have made GC's task this year very hard - pretty sure if it had been in place, Annable would be at Lathlain today)

Just with the comments on the mini draft. There’s no guarantee it happens next year which is the year Axel would be eligible.

If I were to guess I’d say it’s more likely in 2028 for draftees from the 2029 class to play in 2030 (our flag year).

My posting shows I’ve been very keen on Axel for a long time but I don’t think we can formulate a ruck strategy on the assumption that we get Walsh. If we do end up getting Walsh then having another more mature ruck on the list is a good problem to have.

All of Flynn, BWilliams and Barnett will be in the last year of their contract and would be in the discussion for delisting depending on how Archer comes on and what the trade landscape looks like.

Oh it's a thing alright, but tell me how we can be guaranteed of getting Walsh, we cant simply because we don't control that decisions as its not our to make.

We need to be proactive and see who we could poach at the next trade period, to alleviate our ruck woes.

I would be planning for both scenarios, but I certainly would not be banking on us being the successful bidder in the Mini-Draft pick auction.
How does the mini-draft work again? Players have to nominate (agree to be prelisted) and then the Tassie must trade them?

If that's the case we need to be into Axel and get him to nominate on the condition that he's dealt to West Coast (I don't want to leave WA should do the trick)*, for fair compensation. I don't mind paying what he's worth, just don't want to miss out by them moving him elsewhere.

* imagine the AFL would blow up about this though.

As part of Tasmania’s list concessions, there will be two 17 year old mini drafts, similar to the last mini draft afforded to GWS in 2012. Tasmania will be given two picks in each mini draft, which must be traded to other clubs.

Based on precedent, to be eligible to nominate for the mini-draft, players would need to turn 17 between January 1 and April 30 of the relevant year. These players would normally be eligible and nominate for the following year’s national draft as 18 year olds.

There is no confirmation that the mini drafts will be held in 2026 and 2027.

Not sure if we've addressed our midfield needs yet with Duursma. I'm not sold on Rodriguez. I guess time will tell. We need to have even more focus on mids in the 2026 draft.

Jamayson is 100% an NGA for the Eagles
