Close the Acamedy now.
We gain nothing now.
All the advantages are gone.
We spend the money & put in the effort.
The Bulldogs get a freebie.
Pretty sure it's nothing to do with the academy, my friend. Most athletes put up with this sort of thing as they grow from being kids to adults. It's also quite common with fast bowlers (Lillee, Cummins, Green, and lots more).

I think a lot of it is also because kids don't understand the warning signs their bodies give them and before they know it they are forced to take an extended rest.

This really should be called the Sam Reid Memorial Thread.

I thought w all the sports science staff they should be across the loads for the young guys.

Harry Cunningham and Jevan Phillipou both sustained quad injuries in last week’s match play.

Cunningham will be sidelined for 3-5 weeks

Phillipou will miss 5-7 weeks.

Both players have already started rehabilitation.

When is Wicks due back? If he and Harry are both out could cause some issues
According to McKirdy's track watch last Friday, he's "close to returning to full training after a leg issue"

So maybe today, or for the Bulldogs game next Thursday? Given the club haven't acknowledged several injuries this preseason (Cootee, Edwards, Wicks, Andrew), it's anybody's guess.

Wicks played in this morning’s match simulation - I finally made it down to watch. He looked lively.

However Bowman limped off and was escorted back to headquarters about ten minutes into the session. He looked quite distraught. I’m guessing maybe a hamstring? Or some other lower body muscle issue.

Possibly went from selected to joining Harry on the injury list. Damn

Media (ie. McKirdy) are out at GWS, so we won't get any reports apart from yourself and any other track watchers who were observing. :eyes:

That’s not good news at all.

Here’s hoping it’s just a tweak & not something more sinister (like a knee).

The pre-season injuries have really stacked up - particularly among the younger players. Which is both frustrating and concerning.

I agree that injuries are stacking up. Fortunately most of them don't seem too serious.

Adams - not playing
Heeney - managing his minutes but doing fine
Harry - injured
Dattoli - went off early today and I'm not sure he played
Rosas Jr - was looking a bit gimpy towards the end of training and was pulled off by Raper (head physio) but then was back at it again after that
Papley - injured
Wicks - injured but getting there - was running around today but not sure if he played
Phillipou - injured
Andrew - injured
Blakey - was running laps on the sidelines with BJ (Campbell) today. Campbell told they just eased him back due to a recent cortisone injection - not injured. Maybe it's the same for Blakey
Bowman - went off injured today
Cootee - injured - last week said 6-8 until he's back playing
Edwards - returning from injury, in good shape, hoping to play soon
King - out for months
Kyle - not sure but he hasn't been getting a lot of minutes
Curnow - FLYING - seems like he hasn't missed a training session 😍
Hetherton - returning from injury
Hanily - was in a moonboot today - injured
Chamberlain - not sure but I saw him leaving early today, don't know if he played

That's a long way from having a very healthy list, nearly no issues, which it seemed was the case early on. However, we do seem to have a lot of depth and most of those injuries don't seem to grievous. Can still keep wearing the rose-coloured glasses. As someone commented already, it should make selection a bit easier.

I know nothing about this stuff but is it possible that given the chances of stress-related injuries to young players in particular that we have eased up on a few of them? Better for them to be fit and healthy between April-August than firing in January but injured by March.

Blakey and Campbell played the majority of today’s game. I saw them doing some running together towards the end, but, at worst, it was just during the final stanza. Wicks also participated but I couldn’t tell you for how much of the session.
