Nairn with 22 is awesome, however I feel like he’s more a gunston-type player and I would like to see him possibly go down to 19 once it’s available. might be getting ahead of myself since he hasn’t played a game yet 🤣

The be fair, he was the first of the draft batch and 22 was the next available. Pretty standard.
We don’t normally put a draftee into a low number straight off the bat though.

Far from standard.
It literally is. Draftees move into the next available number.

Ward was straight into 25, Shiels 26, Shoey 25, Issie 16, Hodge 15. Hardly super rare. It just depends on what numbers are free and who wants to move up.

The only time they've kept a number free recently is 19, during Gunners' sabatical.

I think it's more that the next available number in this case was worn by a recently retired 300+ game triple premiership Hawthorn legend. That's got to carry some weight.

To fans, for sure. It's special to us because we loved Breust, but historically it doesn't have a lot of significance. I'm guessing no-one jumped at the chance to move into it though, so it was available for draftees.

I can't imagine if say, Butler or Ginni put their hand up for it, they would have been knocked back.
