Great summary mate thanksHawthorn v Geelong
FULL TIME![]()
•Flynn Perez – $99k (DEF/MID)*![]()
Started on the bench but made an immediate impact once injected, featuring in two half back chains. Had a quiet patch, then made it count with a goal from beyond 55. His kicking out of defence stood out as the game went on, including a 50m lace out pass to Reeves that led to an end to end goal. Still shapes as a value option if Hawthorn use their final list spot on him.
•Lennox Hoffman – $119k (DEF)![]()
Was one of the most composed defenders on the ground. Stayed clean, active and reliable, and did not put a foot wrong across the simulation, particularly early. There were several defensive outs though, so role security still needs monitoring.
•Jhye Clark – $178k (MID)![]()
Worked into the game strongly and impressed more as time went on. Showed why he was a top 10 pick and looked far more confident around the contest. Firmly back on the watchlist after being off the radar for many coaches. He played in the Cats grand final side last year and scored a 70.
•Josh Weddle – $432k (DEF)![]()
Played half back in the first half, then moved on ball in the third term and looked very comfortable. Ran hard, used the ball well and continued to present all day. Took two kick ins. The flexibility is great for his team, but the role swings remain the SuperCoach concern. I think he’s in for a huge year, All Australian levels.
•Jai Newcombe – $516k (MID)![]()
Was outstanding through the middle with elite kicking on display. Looked powerful and damaging with ball in hand. With Day unavailable, is he capable of stepping into a true uber premium level role?
•Josh Ward – $450k (MID)![]()
Was Hawthorn’s best midfielder on the day and clearly stepped up with Worpel’s midfield absence. Found plenty of the footy and used it well. Looked far more involved and confident around stoppages.
•Sam Butler – $197k (MID/FWD)![]()
Played predominantly as a small forward rather than the wing or midfield role many hoped for. Still finished with two goals and looks locked into the best 23 based on involvement and pressure.
•Jay Polkinghorne – $119k (FWD)![]()
Kicked three goals and was lively throughout. Took multiple strong contested marks and was one of Geelong’s most eye catching performers. Looked well above his draft slot and pushed a strong Round 1 case. I think this is the #1 SuperCoach stand out of the day.
•Ollie Greeves – $99k (MID)![]()
Did not enter the game until late in the third term. Showed a big body and held up well in tackles. Ground coverage looked a bit limited, but he found some of the ball and used it cleanly by foot.
•Jack Dalton – $119k (MID)![]()
Was a DNP today
•Tanner Bruhn – $276k (MID)![]()
Was a DNP today
•Connor Macdonald – $381k (MID)![]()
Attended roughly 30% of centre bounces in the first half and I’m not sure that’s enough needed to push back into serious consideration. Still played unbelievable and was among the better players on the ground, including a third term goal and 2 posters as well as multiple goal assists. He’s definitely good enough to become a keeper, but the role and if he gets it remains the concern.
•Sam De Koning – $363k (DEF/RUC)![]()
Handled the clear number one ruck role for most of the first quarter before the duties shifted more throughout the day. Competed well all day and showed he can hold his own in the role. Would be a cheeky selection as a defender if this role sticks but no Blicavs today.
•Mitch Edwards – $119k (RUC)![]()
Took over more ruck duties from the second quarter onwards and showed real upside with his leap and follow up tackling. Had several promising moments and stayed involved. Both he and De Koning impressed in patches and remain watchlist options.
•Lloyd Meek – $552k (RUC)![]()
Led the ruck early ahead of Reeves before the split flipped after quarter time. Showed that the big body, wrestling style ruck can still be effective. The usage suggested more of a rotation than a clear pecking order.
•Ned Reeves – $242k (RUC)![]()
Took over some more ruck responsibility after quarter time and shared duties heavily with Meek. The structure pointed towards a genuine two ruck setup rather than a solo role but Round 0 will give us a much better idea. He ended the game the preffered ruck. Meek may have been rested.
•Ollie Dempsey – $423k (MID)![]()
Received genuine inside midfield minutes throughout the game with several senior Geelong mids missing. Stayed around the contest and looked comfortable in the role. Hard to see this continuing.
#AFL #SuperCoach
He was good as can be expected. Only really shanked one bad disposal and to be fair he looked cooked.Hows Dempsey looking in the mids?
Sometimes he looks like he could be the best player in the comp. Does he lack a bit of pace on the burst? Is it just the way the Hawks play?Newcombe is the biggest tease. Potential to go large is there, but hasn't even cracked an avg of a tonne yet.
Connor about to get an ownership spike.
The Hoff a watch but half their side missing.
Anyone with the stones to consider Ward as a POD?
He's ready to really break out I reckon.
Bit harsh, he just had a quiet day against his old side.•Josh Ward – $450k (MID)![]()

Good kick, but had the turning circle of a barge by the time he was let go.Did North delist Flynn Perez ?
Shirley hes better than spuds like Fisher etc .

West AdelaideWhat role was Perez playing at NORTH ?Good kick, but had the turning circle of a barge by the time he was let go.
The repeated ACLs did no good for his agility.
Good to see he’s getting another shot tho. I think every North fan would like to see him make a career of it after so much hardship.
Not sure Fisher is the standard we want to hold kids against either.![]()
Medium defenderWhat role was Perez playing at NORTH ?
If you weren't considering him before that game I'm not sure how a scratch match against a VFL standard midfield moves the needle.
B team backline also stiffened up by WAFL coach Kyal Horsely who was playing in his basketball shorts
