Autopsy 2026 Rd 6 Collapse. Copy. Paste.

They are only spectators in a stadium. I don’t know how many players would want to play for a well supported bottom 4 club over a top 6 club who would get 80000+ spectators in the finals series.
If I was an afl player I'd want to play at the MCG and in front of huge crowds.

Would be an absolute buzzzz.

Even better... you join them and turn them into a top 6 club ;)

So what you and some others are saying is it's okay because he could bring us some talent we need?

The welfare and health and what is best for the person involved doesn't matter?

Wow
Not saying that at all Soapy.

The success of the club depends on bringing in and developing talent. Elijah for all his faults, has this in spades.

Welfare is important, but there's no definitive answer as to what was the best for him. Even IF he has relapsed, how do you know that wouldn't have happened in a lower league or outside of football altogether? Who's to say having the responsibility and professional support of a club wouldn't be the best place for him to stay disciplined?

All that is to say, saying someone doesn't care about Elijah's welfare and health is bs, because adding him to a list isn't automatically good or bad for his welfare.

So we have to judge the decision on other factors too, such as talent.

Wow

For all anyone knows he'd have been worse off by far if we didn't re-list him. Just because what happened last night happened doesn't mean that giving him a list spot was detrimental to his welfare.

Playing him last night, and continuing to play him - that's where the welfare issue sits. However much blame needs to sit with Lij (and nobody outside of probably a handful of people at the club would know how much), the club, his coaches, the leaders, his teammates - all failed him last night.

And if we want to be brutal, it's not just a welfare issue, it's a competitive one too. We played a bloke for 60+% of a game that was decided by one kick, despite him having a visible breakdown/episode of some sort which rendered him unable to have even the slightest impact on the game. Cripps desperately wants a win? At half time he is dragging Lij over to the doc and senior coach and telling them that we're playing with 4 on the bench for the second half rather than 17 on the field.

Elijah - This one’s unfortunately not going to go away quietly.

1) The club noticed and still proceeded to play him, even until the last quarter.
2) They genuinely didn’t notice, despite zero touches or involvement and only pulled him mid way through last quarter.

Either of those demonstrates negligence of the highest order.

Elijah is an adult. He makes choices, but addiction doesn’t care if you come from money or not. Feel for him.

Zero empathy or sympathy for anyone else that should be held responsible. If someone needs to go and it’s Voss, so be it.

There’s so many it’s bad either way outcomes on this one. Did the players notice? Say something? And ignored? That’s bad.

Did they not notice? Or noticed and not say anything? That’s bad.

I thought Young actually looked halfway-alright in the few ruck contests he attended.

Remember that game we played HOK as ruck relief and he only played like 30% TOG? If we're gonna do dumb shit like that then Lewis Young is probably the one to do it with.
Maybe at CBAs but around the ground ball-ups & thrown-ins, when he needs to use his body more and read the flight of the throw-in, rather than just run and jump, he is beyond hopeless.

Gotta love how many people are suddenly forensic experts on being able to judge someone is on gear from a distance.

elijah footage and anecdotes are both concerning and upsetting and points to failures at most levels of the club. i imagine the higher ups at the club will be sent some 'please explain's, as the afl itself is at risk of reputational damage. voss did his best to bat away the questions after the game. but there is no way the club can avoid this being painted as a systemic failure. and this isn't even touching on the actual game of footy.

i'm repeating some things
what did the players know, and were they asked to play alongside someone they knew should not be out there?
we lost a game by 5 points while essentially a man down, and the club were possibly in a position to remove an unwell person before the game took place. doesn't mean we would have won. but did the club do what it could to win this game?
did the club decide to just let some issues play out publicly for some reason?
did the club try and nurse him through the game seeing as he was already playing?

there are so many questions that come from this and none of them have nice answers.

Cripps is a poor captain. Always has been...

Can't kick a clutch goal to save himself
His skills are quite poor
Can't rally the troops
Tries to do everything himself...does not trust team mates
Rarely takes first option
Thinks he owns the CBAs
His interviews are just waffle and platitudes and his (and the team's actions) on the field bear no resemblance to what comes out of his mouth pre-game

If that triggers people, press IGNORE and move on

He certainly was involved in the last quarter in plenty of link up play, always chose the first and more importantly the right option. Certainly didn't do it all himself. His skills whilst not elite are above average. Kicked many a clutch goal in his career. Not sure what you expect him to say in his interviews...'Voss is shit', 'Elijah is a druggy', 'Walsh cant kick'.

If this triggers you please press ignore and move on.....

Kudos to Mitch McGovern for stepping up and kicking goals this year. Fifth week in a row he has kicked 2 or more goals and now has 12 for the season so far.
12-3
His most goals in a season since 2019

Pull your head in. Everyone can tell something was amiss, and there are questions about how it was handled, but speculating about the cause (or insisting it's something in particular without evidence) isn't appropriate.

Really? On a Carlton forum? The whole football world is talking but we as a supporter/membership group should shut our traps?

Isn't it a case of them having Naicos and us not ? I don't think we were outcoached or the players didnt have enough heart.
We simply got beat by a superstar. Even then we bounced back a couple of times in the last to almost get a draw. A kick one meter to the right would have got it done. We carried 3 kids with less than 8 games experience and played 60% of the game a man down. Then we lost our KPF in the last.

The 6 x 6 mistake was a costly disaster that was unprofessional but I am happy with the overall attempt to beat the hardened Pies.

Stop speaking so much sense. No Daicos and we clearly win. He did what Judd used to do for us. Picked them up and literally carried them over the line.

Again let's just see what information comes out around this - it was clearly exceptional circumstances.

For now I'm actually going to support the club on this despite the media pile on. I find it had to believe if it was that obvious the guy was struggling that they would have still played him. I could be wrong but I don't see the club the or Voss pushing the the guy up the race Ozzy Osbourne style to play. All these commentators that are now experts- were they calling it out early in the game (I don't know).

Clubs are very well educated and guarded on this stuff these days.

I see the irony also in someone like Kane Cornes who will be all sympathetic about player well being and menta health - and earns a living publicly ripping coaches and players ever week !
david king alluded to it during the game

Get real mate...

Many many families are touched by it...nothing new

We also see it on the streets, news, uinternet etc ...its all over the place

Most people would have some idea.

i turned off last night for my own mental health and just here for an update as to how we went - we are still shit right?

One player
One quarter
That's all it took to beat us....
Its amazing that one or to oppo types quick/high footy IQ can actually beat us...

Dees it was pickett and Gawn
Daicos last night

Its on the coaches to anticipate oppo players strengths and have some sort of back up plan to limit their impacts

Voss never does and never will - hes a dud coach unfortunately

Oh yes. Yes we are.

We tried hard, we took more risks and stayed in the game right up until the end. But the skill levels are still miles off it, and the more aggressive mindset highlighted that a lot more than in other games this year. It also reinforces why the players have been regressing to such a reactive, defensive style in response to opposition momentum - they themselves know that their skills will let them down and they haven't wanted that on show.

The glass half full approach to this game would be that if we keep playing aggressive footy for the next couple of months, the players might get out of their own heads and find that basic skill execution returns to them.

There was a handpass off a wing to get the ball into the corridor and out of congestion in the third quarter IIRC that was excellent. Good vision, smart hands, hit his target, began a scoring chain that resulted in a point (one of the set shots, I think).

Dunno if one good handpass is enough, but I agree a little.
The whole team is getting a better week by week - just need a win...

In fairness, he/they clearly did anticipate it. The answer was just wrong. It's tough - in addition to being an elite runner, Daicos is also just an incredibly good and instinctive footballer. Coaches went with Ollie to try and stay with him, and he did - he just got beaten by a much better player.

Need to find ourselves a Crowley for these sorts of jobs. Someone who occasionally crosses the line but in the process just mentally and physically wears down the oppo's best mid.

Elliot had a fistfull of jumper with that Daicos goal on the line which was a massive turning point. Should have been a Blues free.

Was barracking for you guys.
