Pleased with our double ups and pleased with an away game v GWS in Canberra again (short trip reasons).
Displeased but utterly unsurprised with the amount of interstate trips. We always seem to cop the absolute maximum there.
But at least it looks...a little bit different to the past few years

What a ****ing joke this league is.
3 teams have 8 thu/fri games in the first 15 rounds.
Multiple clubs have none or one.
The premiers only have 3.

Its just outright corruption and not even hiding its all about money anymore

Selfish, but now that I attend the footy with my kid/s, I've decided I don't actually like night games.

I have a solution to this. I basically pretend Thursday night football doesn't exist.
Friday night I'll watch if the game interests me, when seems to be less frequently

Looking at that fixture start, every chance we could be 5-1 after 6 games

Very soft start to the year, every chance to capatilise on it.

Having said that can see us only winning 1 of our next 5 after that.

Breakdown:

Marvel x 12
Optus (WA) x 2
Hands Oval (WA) x 1
Barossa (SA) x 1
Adelaide Oval (SA) x 2
Manuka (ACT) x 1
GMHBA x 1
MCG x 1
UTAS (Tas) x 1
SCG x 1

Is there any other teams that have to play 9 interstate games? Or are we getting reemed more than most.

Haw 10 if I counted correctly.

We've got 10 if you count Geelong. It's like being on another planet.

This is the Herald Sun's summary of our draw.

Thursday nights: 0

Friday nights: 0 (Good Friday afternoon game in round 4)

Marquee match-ups: Good Friday v Carlton (round 4), Brisbane (round 4), Carlton (round 6)

Who you play twice: Essendon, Geelong, Port Adelaide, Richmond, Sydney, West Coast,

When is your bye?: Round 12

Our say: If there was ever a draw to help a side bounce up the ladder, this is it. North only faces one 2025 finalist (Geelong)twice, and realistically only one other side (Sydney) that is widely expected to be in the finals mix. Double-ups against three of the other sides to finish in the bottom-four is a fixture that goes down easier than a cold beer on a hot day. Make sure you renew your Kayo subscription Roos fans: Good Friday is the only game scheduled for free-to-air and a Saturday night in round 3 is the only night match on the slate. Deservedly, the Roos are miles off Broadway.

Brisbane at the Barossa is not a "marquee match up". Nice try though, Herald Sun.

Assuming a relatively clean bill of health there is no excuses for clarko this year

Have to make wildcard week

LOL no. We definitely should expect improvement, but we also need to be realistic.

Regardless of the fixture, this team did not add any significant talent to the best 22. We're essentially rolling out the same team in 2026 as we did in 2025, with some very minor changes.

We aren't going to have a 200% improvement in wins/losses year-over-year.

The games I feel pessimistic about are the ones against Geelong (x2), WB, Collingwood, Brisbane (tho we drew last time), Hawthorn, GWS, GCS (at Marvel - they travel poorly, but still) and Adelaide in Adelaide.

So, pending significant injuries, I'll commence the season with decent expectations for 14 games.

It has to mean something that this is the first season in quite a while where we aren't expecting an 18 year old draftee to front up for a round one seniors game.

The WA homes games have some upside. The big complaint from WA based sides is the constant travel, always at an airport, not many consecutive days in the one place. We will no doubt have an extended trip there, the first game is after the bye allowing a good prep in, then post we have good break before we play Richmond. It's 2 WA games but only 1 return flight and a great chance for the boys to spend some time together.

It's 2 WA trips not 3 essentially. The club didn't it really well this year and it's probably why we saw a good showing against freo... but the Eagles showing lol
