The misses that hurt the most was not landing one of Lynch at the end of 18 or Cameron at the end of 20.

Lynch 63 goals in Collingwood colours in 2019 likely makes us Premiers. Lynch 63 goals in 2022 when we fell 2pts short of making a GF. The sliding doors moment being that Buckley would have been still coaching us in 2022 if that 2019 Premiership unfolded.

Miss on Lynch then Cameron and his 65 2022 goals might have made us back to back Premiers in 22 and 23. 88 goals last season when we make a Prelim without him.

Little wonder our search for an elite key foward continues.
I dont we were ever a real chance TBH

We need to draft at least 4-5 midfielders to bring into our system for next year and beyond.

Our cupboard is so bare it is not funny.

We are still so reliant on a 37 yr old and 30 yr old whose body went through a lot over the last 2 years.

We need to be ruthless this trade period . Trade any player that can net us draft assets.

How can the WBD midfield be that much deeper than ours and they’re missing Libba and likely to add Butters?

We have to look at what we can get for Houston. I’d take a pick around 15-20.

It might sound ridiculous but he has currency and plays in the most replaceable position in the league.

That might be a sore spot, but I genuinely would look at a Houston trade.

Only issue is we would have to definitely eat a good amount of his salary, and I don't think we will entertain that after what we through with Grundy and treloar.

So if a club is happy to take his entire salary of our hands then that is a different discussion.

Will have to monitor the Ed Allan situation as well. If he wants to go back home to wa, then we will have very little leverage against wa because of their draft position.

The Bobby situation will have to come to a head, one way or another, obviously we will have a better idea of his status between now and the trade period. But if he is a no show again for the rest of the year then, we will have to find a way to get out of his contract with no further obligations or find a willing trade partner who is willing to give up a late pick for him.

They have a knack for drafting and developing midfielders.

We have hit a wall on that long time back. The last genuine midfielder that we drafted and developed (excluding nick) was JDG from the 2014 draft.

I wouldn’t trade Houston. For one, it would be a sell low but also I think we need to put Josh back on the wing. Neither are great defenders so let’s put the AA winger back on it…

Call me naive, but I don’t think we’re going to be far off it next season if we can make some smart moves this offseason. These results to the top sides (plus dogs) are encouraging if anything. We know where the gaps are

Houston has had some great games for us this year. And I don't know why he's being singled out today. He was far from our worst (McCreery, Long, Sidey, Crisp, Cameron etc).

The good thing is we're finding out a lot about our kids this year and unearthing our next generation. Allan as our tagger could be massive and it's also helping him impact offensively when he's in the center of the action.

Neale as FA, take a high draft pick and plug some holes in terms of a centre bounce ruck and forward target and we are right back in it.

It pisses me off no end that we keep persisting with playing Josh and Dan in the same defensive line. Josh was an AA wingman in a premiership year for us and our backline worked so much better when we had one runner and one elite distributor (Nick and Noble/Markov).

I’m really adamant that putting Josh back on the wing and bringing in Swadling as a running HB should be a priority for us.

I never understood why we moved Josh from the wing. Particularly when we brought Houston in.

I still don't understand it.

We used our wings differently - but have changed the we use the wings - it's a low possession role for us now and we want him to get a lot of it.

Completely agree.

I’d be happy to go into next season with a backline combination of Frampton, Maynard, Perryman, Moore, Quaynor, Houston, Parker, Swadling and Howes. I personally don’t see much weakness there.

Josh becomes the odd man out because he’s not a good defender and he’s elite forward of centre.
