Tend to agree, and tbh 3 first rounders if Butters was 21/22 might be worth it but its a big stretch for us because when was the last time we had a live first rounder? With Tassie coming in, if we were in the lucky spot of having 3 first rounders, we might be able to better shore up our future by using them. There is a bit of talk that King might be less likely to matched by GC because they might be running into salary cap issues down the track with all the great youngsters they have and they will want to keep their home grown products. So if we offered a sum higher enough to put them off matching Ben King could be a cheaper grab and he is a proven key forward unlike our budding ones.
I am really hoping that some of our babies will surprise and give us what we need most.
I have a very optimistic hope for our last two years draft kids.

It’s hard to understand the logic of paying three first rounders for anyone. That price could get you three good players — more impact, more depth in squad, less injury and other risk.
Is there so much upside in a Butters that we should put all our eggs in one basket?

“Could” is always the key word here. It obviously depends on the pick range, but there’s chances you could end up with a bust as well. Then add to that the if we are talking say including one pick as a 2027 first rounder, if you pick a kid with that he’s not really going to come on until 2029/2030. By then we’ve also lost Moore, Maynard, degoey and now they need replacing. It’s a tough game list management.

There’s lots to think about in terms of value.

My dream scenario next year would be Zac Bailey and Ben King.

Butters leaving is going to form a foundation for a port rebuild. They will want a package that does that. Can’t see them accepting anything less than two low top 10 picks with change. Pretty obvious sell for them knowing he could help win a flag for any club he goes to.

Not to mention their supporters will want blood if they cave. We’d want 3 firsts if he played for us
It's an interesting one with price to match having gone up though with them also having a couple to match coming up who could go very high.

It's about expected return from the player/picks. And where in the draft they fall.

Over the years, it's taken an average of 2.1 picks between 11 and 20 to get one 100 game player - and you'd expect that bloke will contribute a heap less than what Zak Butters still has to give - he's a top 5 mid in the comp. So he's clearly worth a heap more than 2.1 first round picks in that range.

I see the logic of course, but I still think it’s a very big call to expect more value from one Butters than from three good prospects over the full journey.
As stormskye said above, list management is a tough game.

It's not really Zak Butters versus 3 blokes, as you still fill the other 2 list spots with late picks who are a chance of making it.

In a very rudimentary calculation, 3 picks in that range will only get you one and a half hundred game players on average. Whereas if you trade them for Butters, you get Zak and half a player from the very late picked players. When factoring in quality of games, the odds are well and truly in favour of trading the picks for Zak. It's also why it'd take at least 3 picks in that range to get pick 1 - if you were lucky enough to find a buyer - which you wouldn't be

Yes, Bailey @ Pies 2027, Kane Cornes thinks he's dog-shite according to his Top 50, that's good enough for me.....Third rounder and a packet of chicken twisties should do it!

Jordan butts is one we should be able to get fairly cheaply. If we were right into Silvagni, then Butts is probably a better option. We just need to find a quality midfielder
I was looking at available defenders yesterday and he’s the only one that looked worth targeting

Read somewhere that the Pies have offered $1.8 million a year. My thought is they're hoping that Brisbane can't match that offer with their stacked list and the number of young players coming through that will need hefty contract extensions.

Brisbane will lose players over the next few years anyway as they can’t keep them all. Bailey would be a great get, almost kicked 10 in the grand final if not for inaccuracy

Murray and Butts are 25 and 26 - one of them will miss out if Keane and Worrell are fit. They'd have to be looking elsewhere if they are the one who can't make the team.

Zac Bailey is going to the Crows I reckon (if he leaves).
I don't think so, Zac is not a South Australian which is what some posters choose to believe, he comes from Southern Districts in the NT, same club as Nathan Buckley.

So clean and powerful, rarely fumbles from the highlights not even at NT Thunder.
