I think you’re underselling the role you and others like you play in the decision making of AFL players. By you specifically I’m referring to your views on Schultz. The vitriol that bloke received from his own supporters was insane and twofold. The first being because he struggled to have his usual impact in a new system and the second that a much loved player in Ginnivan was moved on at the same time. I’ve never seen anything like it before and what he had to move through was disgusting, IMO.

McStay having to turn off his socials last year is another example. I have no doubt Houston copped it as well because he didn’t settle in instantly. I guarantee Moore received hundreds of messages last week on socials from irate nuffies (it’s likely some are amongst us). Sure most of us would be fine copping it in their shoes because it’s primal for us we’d feel exactly like Nick does when he loses or Moore would have on Thursday. Most of the population (especially those that come from outside the Collingwood bubble) probably can’t be bothered with making a life altering decision knowing they’ll cop that bullshit if they can’t perform to external perceptions.

The excessive amount of Footy shows thrown down peoples throats fuel the fire

Someone posting vitriol to players on socials probably doesnt even know of Bigfooty.

Other than King who would you prefer? and for a key forward what do you consider output? I am concerned about King being a one trick pony... but his one trick is very good when you consider no forward has averaged more goals per game than him over the past 3 years (despite his limited kicks per game).

Who I would prefer and what is possible might be 2 different things.

In an ideal world - Cadman. He looks exceptional. Reminded me a bit of Jezza. But he is long term at the Giants.

Calsher Dear but maybe unlikely to move. Don't think he would not be expensive.

Mitch G from Port

Nate Caddy at the right price. Has been coached by A Rocca and would be moving for the sake of wanting to win. I like that. Caddy has some swagger that I hate when I see it in red and black but in black n white I would like it lol.

But would also be open to getting Toby Greene (have seen his name mentioned by others) and going with a smaller forward line with only 2 talls. So would be McStay/West with JDG, Jamie and Toby as the mediums with Bobby/Hayes.

Mitch G? Yes please! Freak in the air and on the deck. We we're a bees proverbial from getting him from my recollection. The "drafted just before our pick" best 22 would be depressing reading with Bont and Mitch probably surrounded by 18 other superstars

Port drafted him with the pick we gave Brisbane for Beams (who traded it to port)

Did anyone watch Ned Moyle Sunday night? Do the new ruck rules suit him or not?

I think a Moyle Steene combo would work well

I think about this a lot as well, but honestly there could be a whole host of reasons:

  • Far more pressure playing for Collingwood than arguably any other club?
  • Far more media scrutiny?
  • Is it possible that behind the scenes the environment isn't as great as it seems? (just speculating here)
  • Maybe our development isn't great?
  • Is it possible they hear about our insanely rigid structure and find it a turn off?

I'm just spit balling here as to possible reasons why outside of "We just can't pay them enough or don't have the trade capital"
Much simpler. You're underestimating what we've added and over-estimating what others have added. Cats have added a couple of superstars from country Vic who didn't want the lime light and wanted to live on farms. The other Vic teams haven't blitz. Freo have done well recently.

We had a crack and got pretty close when he was out with his knee. Wasn't entrenched in the team at the time.

FFS.

I laughed at the thought of Caddy but now I'm all in.

Neale, Caddy and Butts sounds good to me!
I think that people need to cool their jets on this tbh, having our claws in to him could just mean that we’re working on a way to get him over in the next couple of years. I doubt we’d be looking to bring him in at the end of 2026, we have bigger fish to fry and want to retain our first pick going by the language Kelly was using

The way some people spoke about Chris Mayne was shocking. Yes he struggled to adapt and was being paid well, but you'd think some supporters were really oppo fans out to put him in a psych ward.

Tbh don’t rate caddy…

Has talent, but also doesn’t seem to have great footy smarts (in the McStay mould)..

Schultz copped nothing compared to Chris Mayne’s first two years.
Poor bugger.
And I heard him interviewed on SEN about how he was aware and it impacted his mental health. It was a sad bu enlightened interview.
The players definitely know.

Of course they do. Footballers don't come from or live on Mars - they're footy fans before they're footballers.

By the end of Mayne’s tenure he gained cult hero status which was good to see

Similarly Ash Johnson - social media vitriol set him back a long way. Which was confirmed by Fly at an event I attended.
AJ was unfortunately a very fragile talent.

Do you think that bullshit is uniquely a Collingwood issue? When you are a public figure involved in a very emotional game you are going to face horrible abuse from a tiny minority of utter imbeciles. If you have a social media presence, then you deserve to cop whatever comes your way. Why do players need to be on social media? They should be told to unplug and never look at social media feedback. Whether it's over the top praise and adoration or negative vibes and abuse, there is nothing good about social media if you are a public figure.
Why should players be on social media? lol. Because they're human beings in a very flawed but unavoidable society. Should they just use pagers? Communicate with their family and friends via snail mail?

Just grow up and treat people like human beings.

Oh for sure. I was taking the piss.

Genuinely don't think we're any chance to get him unless Essendon have another 2+ years similar to this year (every chance). Even if he does request a trade, Essendon will ask for more than what they were for Merrett. He'll see out his contract.
