Hahaha I know. I genuinely like Moore as a player and as Captain. Seriously. But is he worth more to us at Collingwood or More if a trade help net Butters?

As for the Captaincy, I couldn’t see him with it next year and certainly not in two years. My expectation would be Naicos and maybe interim Bruzzy.
I'm in. I'm not fussed who we trade. I live in reality unlike some on here.

Current draft picks :
1 x 1st
1 x 2nd
3 x 4th

Number of likely retirements at year end, which will free up cap space

A few youngsters like Ryan , TJ , HDM etc with career defining years for their futures

A potential top 10 type pick in Condon possibly joining later this year

The big elephant in the room is how many free agents are we targeting ? 1, 2 or 3? While retaining our early picks. And ensuring we capitalize on having Nick and make sure he sees the club as the place to be post his current contract

Will be interesting to track the rumours of which free agents we are targeting
Just get Neale and Toby for free.and there's next years flag.

One thing is for sure and that is the list management team are going to have to get to work. We need some quality in the midfield while the younger guys (hopefully) come on. I'd love for us to bring in Lachie Neale. There are always guys around that you can bring in cheaply and be quality, like in 2021 and 2022.

A top midfielder or tall forward would be nice. It would be tough to bring those in and keep our first pick though.

Every club has done it until the rules changed and you think North would have done us a favour, how naive! Better to get something rather than nothing which is what would have happened if the club didn't trade back. The Callaghan and Nick combo was never going to happen, that's just the truth.

No - what we should have done is keep the pick until the following year, then traded it once we knew what pick it was…

Even if the club was ultra optimistic, and thought we could win the premiership in 2021 (we were always going to be bottom 6 after the previous offseason), we would of still being giving up pick 18 for pick 31 and 32 (I.e. even in best case scenario, we would still be getting bent over).

Had we held our pick, we could have likely traded away pick 2 for 2 x future firsts or the first rounder of a team likely to be bottom 2 (North) the following year..

Then we wouldn’t have spent the last few years complaining about the lack of talent/support for Naicos…

Not unhappy. I know people obsess over players above 196cm for some reason, but I think we would do better with a very dangerous half forward or forward-mid. I’m talking about a player type like Humphrey, Rachele and Rankine before they went predominantly mid, Watson, Z Bailey. If they have speed they break both defensive set ups and midfields and that’s just priceless in today’s game.

Buller, West, McStay with a resting ruck can be good enough tall timber or at least it’s not where I would put my ‘elite player’ magnet if I had a magic wand. We won a GF with Billy Frampton as our KPF :)

It’s a wake up call
We have 2 seasons to get our house in order and regenerate with youth and other pieces of value not too dissimilar to the 2022 post season.

I think it’s as simple as King is staying for another couple of years (why wouldn’t he) and Collingwood are refocusing quickly.

Mitch Lewis wouldn’t require draft capital. Neither does Lachie Neale.

Bring a couple of players like that in and go to the draft, things can build quickly.

Sign Lewis.
Pick best available talent with our first pick ~ 8-10.
Replenish Key Position stock, likely a KPD with pick ~ 25 - 30
West and Hayes come on.
Sign a player who breaks into our best 23 with immediate impact, preferably under 24 yrs.
All of a sudden our youth is promising.
This is very do-able and should not cost much

Plus Lachie Neale would be the icing on the cake but maybe not realistic

I'm still disappointed but I guess now we can spread our cap across multiple players ala 2022 offseason.

Lewis + Neale + a couple of out of favour players at other clubs and I'd be happy.

I'd still be asking the question of Butts as well.
