The town isn't anywhere near as strong as Perth to withstand it.

Adelaide is extremely strong financially, but Port isn't. Fremantle is much bigger than Port financially.

It's not really going to move the needle for the Crows, but a 3rd SA side could kill Port.
I disagree, you either love Port, or you hate Port. It's what they build themselves as, similar to Collingwood.

I doubt many Port fans would turn on Port. Especially for Norwood which seems the most likely option.

I would argue that a 3rd SA team would more likely put a big enough dent into Adelaide that Port would actually be the biggest club in town.

20th team should be a new Victorian team.

Dees then to relocate to Mt Hotham to be closer to their 'fans'.

I was going thru the harbour tunnel the other day when a Range Rover passed me with NSW plates AND the stock standard matchbox sized MFC sticker on its back window.

If I had of been on the bridge I would have driven off it !!

It's close enough. What a strange issue to make a big deal about.
eh people always say its a party strip, no real people, party town
below is the map and you can see the party strip

on your screen are hundreds of thousands of houses and apartments with 700,000 residents.
zoom out and go a little further south to northern rivers and you add another 300,000 residents

that's a catchment of 1 milllion people. (same coincidently as perth had in 1987 when eagles started and adelaide in 1990 when crows started).

i wish people would realise the SUNS arent going anywhere

If team 20 is in Perth… I’d like to see them use ‘Perth’ but the WAFL side has that

Colours and jumper wise… I don’t mind west Perth

Or west Perth sash… but in East Perth colours (blue with black sash)

The sash makes it a bit different from eagles and dockers jumpers… and the colours make it different to other AFL teams

Of course the blended jumper can probably only happen if 2 WAFL teams put in a joint bid for the licence

Otherwise don’t mind West Perth’s colours and jumper if it is strong enough to enter the comp on its own

Anyhow just spitballing… but excited by the prospect of a team 20. And am confident it will be in WA

Yep, Perth Sharks with that jumper which isn't too close to anyone else's. Quickest way to fill up a 60K stadium for a 20th team.

The Eagles never became Perth because of the Perth Football club. What has changed that you think the Perth football club name can now be used?

West Perth Football club trading as the Joondalup Falcons.
Red Jumper with Blue Sash.
Would get 15-20K Members sign up pretty quick I reckon. Traditionally the biggest club in the WAFL.
Only change needed is club song as it's the same as Melbournes. No big deal changing that.

If it ended up just Joondalup on it's own and not the West perth football club it will struggle big time I think.

Subiaco/Claremont/Perth.

WCE are by far the wealthiest club in the league.

Fremantle in the top 6-7.

It's the market that is the one strong enough to dilute.

Try and keep it away from Freo heartland and cut into the WCE supporter base.
I do think several WAFL sides should probably pool their resources and bid for a licence together. If the aim is to keep it as far from Fremantle's support base as possible, the obvious bases are Joondalup or Midland, so you'd figure the consortium would have to include at least one of West Perth or Swan Districts.

So a new club called Perth football club could be started and the existing Perth Football club would have no say in it? Based on your knowledge how can that happen?

Perth is a geographic location so the above (3., 5. and 6.) were the only registered Australian trade mark rights the Perth Football club were able to secure. So, as long as they don't use a similar logo, PFC have no trade mark rights allowing them to successfully stop Perth3 using 'Perth' for goods in classes 25 (clothing), 28 (sporting gear), or services in classes 38 (communication of sporting events), and 41 (putting on sporting events for entertainment purposes).

If they went after them anyway for something like misleading and deceptive conduct, they would have to show it was intentional to deceive the customers of PFC that Perth3 was in some way directly related to the WAFL club, and evidence of damages because of that. Difficult, if not impossible, when the media spends many an article explaining that they are unrelated.

Don't see a potential issue with copyright.

In addition, and more importantly, given that WC and Freo are owned by the WAFC, it would be reasonable to assume that Perth3 would also be owned by WAFC which is also the owner of the above trade mark registrations (and all other WAFL trade marks). AFL House owns the WC and Freo trademarks and would therefore also own the Perth3 trade marks. Therefore, it would be necessary for WAFC to sign a license agreement to use of the Perth3 mark as I'm sure they have already done with WC and Freo trade marks. As a result, WAFC would not be suing themselves or AFL House so there would be no issue.
i.e. just because Perth FC talks up their history and like they own the place, ownership of their intellectual property is largely owned by the companies up the chain.

The question with a 3rd Perth team is not just whether it would be viable on its own but whether or not it would add enough fans that can't just be absorbed by the existing two clubs.

The key word in expansion team is, funnily enough, expansion. You don't want to end up with 'unnecessary subdivision team'. It's one thing to subsidise a failing team that is at least opening up a new market. It's another thing entirely to subsidise a failing team that is just acting primarily as a parasite in an existing market.

I understand that some of these local clubs retain loyal followings, but how many of these fans would any single team add and how many are completely disengaged from Eagles/Freo now?

Of course, at some point Perth's population will get so large that the existing two clubs will become oversaturated, which will necessitate a 3rd team to retain market share. But this seems to me a far longer-term discussion for a 21st or 22nd team, not an immediate concern.

Canberra has issues, but at least it would be an actual expansion team into a growing market that the AFL would want to get a piece of. It should be clearly the next target.

It’s identical colours to the the oldest club in the league and a bit to close to some of Essendons away jumpers.

I actually think the Royals jumper would be great, with the Sharks mascot.

That blue jumper with the black yoke looks great imo.
