It's not even really the Saints being flogs.

This is flat out a club that quite simply hasn't the slightest clue what they are doing. They genuinely thought that convincing the player himself, who is NOT a FA, was the be all and end all of getting this done. They could waltz into trade period, feeling chuffed with themselves, thinking they can swing dicks like a big boy and strong arm Essendon in to getting it done.

Except Dodoro, despite what you think of his list management performance over time, is a seasoned campaigner. He must seriously almost have sneered at these sniveling little shits that immediately rebuffed the only logical trade option, pick 5.

St Kilda are the skinny kid that has jabbed at the heavy bag a bit, and then all of a sudden reckons they can jump in the ring with Ali cause they think they can box.

Rank amateurs. Watch them accept Carlisle and pick 41 or some other such worthless compensation so they can meekly go back to their supporter base and claim that they did what they said they were gonna do and not give up pick 5 in a straight swap.

More than pick 5.
The points that draft picks have is only really relevant to those that need them for bidding though, pick 5 is clearly more valuable than two later round picks in this draft as it has always been said that it has good top end talent, but falls away quickly.

The points system is based on statistical evidence. For a side that may want to delist several players, having multiple early picks could be better than an early and a very late pick. Especially in a draft that evens out and there are no real standout players in the 8-15 range. Better to get 2 sliders than just the single ticket in the lottery.

Statement from St Kilda FC Chief Operating Officer Ameet Bains:

“I’ve spent much of the day with Jake Carlisle’s manager and can absolutely confirm that Jake’s sole focus remains playing for the Saints in 2016. Further, Jake has confirmed this directly to our senior coach Alan Richardson when they spoke earlier today,” Bains said.

“I can also confirm that the Essendon Football Club has an offer before them to trade Jake to the Saints. We do not intend on providing running commentary on our negotiations and out of respect for Essendon we will not be publicly discussing the specifics of the proposal.

“But what I will say is that we have Jake and his management’s support for our proposal which we all believe is fair and reasonable and would achieve a satisfactory outcome for all involved.”

Except for the fact that he is obviously not worth pick 5, as shown by you accepting 15 and 18, and we were working on a deal that would provide you with a pick that is fairer in the 8-12 region.

Well, pick 11 or 12 isn't going to cut it now.

If, as is rumored (granted, could be a made up rumor, but seems to have legs), Carlisle has agreed to go to either the Saints or the Hawks, we're not going to take a pick 11 or 12.

Hawthorn have presented 15 + 18, so if Saints say "Pick 11/12 for Carlisle, that's our final offer...", we're obviously going to knock that back and send him to Hawthorn.

I'd suggest Dodoro would accept 8 or 9, and maybe 10 at the lowest.

The only way I see Saints gaining another first round pick is by trading Pick 5. As such, that leaves Saints trading to either Adelaide (9 and 13) or Gold Coast (10 and 16) - whether or not either of those sides accept that offer is another story.

The dream for Saints supporters (which I admittedly originally thought would eventuate) of Pick 24 + Ross/Hickey/XYZ Fringe Player isn't realistic anymore. Hawks have come to the table and Saints now need to offer something closer to market value, or they miss out. It's as simple as that.

At the end of the day, if Carlisle says he's happy to go to either team, I think he ends up at Hawthorn. They came straight to the party, offered us realistic value straight up, and to be honest, I'd rather Dodoro deal with Hawthorn following all this stuffing around from St Kilda.

Trade Radio speculating it's a future R1 pick, Saint's still being time wasting campaigners if so

Hahhaa that language is terrible.
It's 24, Hickey and Ross.
