So he can't kick

His kicking is over rated IMO

Contradicting yourself Jack Package?

He can hoof it a mile but gives far to much hang time time on his kicks..

and his decision making is no good. He's mediocre, and not best 22.

Yoda said:
I picked up on his slow decision making at a very early part of his career whilst watching him developing in the twos.

I don't see him as a first choice 22 player of a side pushing for a finals position. Our mediocrity is slowly starting to seep out of the ones and be replaced with better players.

In Myers case, he is one who (on my list) is a # 20 - 26 list player.. (team balance would see him miss out most weeks),

Our recruiting in the early to mid 2000's was pretty ordinary..

He's not as good as Klemke, German and Carroll

Problem is Jonesy..

We dont really have any kids in the maggos.

Crameri (21 y.o), Mariglinai (25 y.o), Silverlock (19/20 y.o)..

Midfielders that is, we dont need any young talls..

Silverlock would have gotten a go in the seniors, pity he broke his ankle.

Myers and Houli are not up to it..

Prismal is so so, to many similar players in the seniors already?

Atkinson is 25 already.

Spewing we let go Klemke, Bryce Carrol, Thomas German.. Could have been handy?

and he's comparable to Jordan Russell

FWIW

Ablett was already in the Geelong team, albeit as a small forward.

Myers is still trying to establish himself in the (sorry S20) 'best 22'.

I think the Russell comparison is an apt one, what about Mundy comparison?

because he can't defend, can't kick, can't run through the midfield and can't kick goals.

What so because it was a different coach back then they took no notice what so ever in him?

Yes he has been afforded the luxury of playing consecutive games this year but I still have question marks as to what his true position is?

I personally think he is vying for Pears in that 3rd tall defender role or running defender in which is he better than Dempsey or Hardingham or Dyson Heppell?

I think that Myers really is going to become a depth player with no real position.

Body - on - body he is not really that great in defence, his wonder boot is not the greatest like everyone makes it out to be, he is not fit enough to be a midfield rotation, and his goal kicking (I think) leaves a little to be desired about.

I can only see him becoming a depth player who could come in play a variety of roles but not an out an out star.

So tell me again how "we" all believed in him all this time.

I'll come off my high horse for a minute here and say that I have criticised him for a while now. That I have questioned whether he 'had' what it takes to become an AFL midfielder.

People still have question marks, hell, even rines has some doubts and as one of the most respected posters on this board, shall we attack them? Of course not..

Look, I have said from a very early on that his decision making has been one of his greatest deficiencies, from very, very early on. The long blaze away was one of them hence my post about needing to lower the eyes. Seems to just want to boot it long every time.

The facts are that younger guys are catching his output very quickly. He needs to continue to develop with his body finally right now (has played 68 of a possible 135 games). If he continues to push the midfield group, we as Essendon will be a premier side having had a guy like Myers as 'depth' for such a long time.

Now come at me. I wrote him off early, but i'll admit that i've come around to him in the last 18 months (yeah, yeah, injury free. Whatever :p) so come at me :D

in case people missed out

This place becomes pretty tiresome, and even cringweorthy, when there is as much activity of posters digging up their old posts to tell everyone how they got something right and focus on opinions of others that time has proven to be incorrect as has been going on here in the last few weeks.

It's a bit galling to have a bloke who's been bashing Myers for years in spite of all evidence to the contrary come out and say "we" all believed in him.

But 'we' all get calls on players wrong.. both ways.. all the time.

I see your point.. but we have so much to be happy about right now..

I've always said that Kreuzer was an ordinary footballer who would never be much better than Josh Fraser.

But if he ever consistently reaches the level of, say, Brad Ottens, then you can be sure I'll be claiming to have told you all so.

Of course, but just own up to it when you're wrong. I was wrong about Knights. I'm not going to come out and say that we should never have appointed him like I've been saying all along.

Ben, get off your high horse and re read post #620..

Or better still, ill do the due diligence for you

I am super happy that he is proving me wrong, I was probably a little harsh on him early doors, but I have tried to call it as I see it and not make a stupid Mark Waugh like comment that is bleedingly obvious (player x WILL be a gun), furthermore, Im not going to come out and say "i told you so" should I get one of my outlandish calls right (think back to Michael Still who was delisted in his second year having been selected as an underaged KPP - called it 3.5 months out from seasons end he wasn't going to make it. Did I want recognition? no.)

Now, lets get back to David Myers and how he has been truly building into the player that most Essendon supporters have wanted him to become since early on.

So "we" didn't all know he'd be a star.

Thanks for clarifying.

Well I don't think WE can call him a star yet.. I'd want to see a bit more than 3 high quality games.. but yes on his way.. and no 'we' didn't all know he would be this good...

Time for Operation Full Time Midfielder is now on

Was one of our best in the first quarter when we were going great guns, was shifted to half back and only went back on ball in the last gasp resurgent late in the game.

For the time when St.Kilda were dominating possession, Myers was across half back and I have no idea why! Yeah I have been a critic of his for years but **** me, if a guy is doing well you don't move him away from there.

Had wondered why he was in the leadership group until I saw the Hangar last night. Man speaks beautifully.

Him or Heppell are the next club captains. Take your pick, they just ooze leadership and actually was one of the key reasons they were both drafted so high.

Myers is streets ahead of Heppell in terms of our next captain. Speaks like a captain should.
