I’d call Kossie picket a natural goal kicker.. I wouldn’t be calling Powell a natural goal kicker. He’s more an orchid goal kicker, conditions need to be perfect for it
Perfect lol - he’s more than reliable.
Would be in our top handful I’d want kicking for goal.

IIRC he missed a couple of sodas, but again, who didn’t in 2025?

I think he’s alright. He’s not mind blowingly good and not completely rubbish. He’s just a meh footballer that doesnt chase or defend hard enough.

So where’s he in the batting order in your side - in other words who is getting picked before him.
Agree he needs to lift but he has the tools at least.

What's the expectation with Powelly next year?

Has played a role over the past few years but probably hasn't reached his expected heights of the talent he showed in his first year. He is obviously valued though with an 8th in the Syd and 5th in 2023.

Be interesting to see what role he ends up playing because he seemingly got pushed out of the midfield later on in the year.
If Tom Powell is our 5th or 6th best mid we are going okay - bonus if he has some sort of pre season that elevates him to 3rd banana or something. TBH he is doing well just to be playing AFL coming from the 2020 draft.

If he could tackle, defend plus do what he does he’d be a good half back although lacking a touch of dash. He is smart enough to play half back but its his non existent defensive game.

I’d throw him in the mix for bench at the moment. Definitely a utility that can fill some needs but he definitely needs to get some defensive stuff or he’ll be another that doesn’t see out a career

So a taller Caleb Daniel and a better user

I thought his tackling was pretty good. Tackles hard probably only behind X for number of tackles for us and more than likely in the top 50 i would imagine for numbers in the league.

His problem as a mid is that on top of not chasing, he gets confused in around the ground positioning and over the past few years has been one of our biggest hack kick exponents. He showed so much vision and poise in his early years in close, but it's gone. It happens.

He is still a beautiful kick with time and space and IMO fills a backline hole for us and allows us to push Colby closer to the action.

I just don't understand why he lost this - it felt so sudden too.

It’s wild looking back on that 2020 probably the worst draft since the drafts inception.

Powelly genuinely had claims to be a top 5/8 player from that draft.

You’d be hard pressed to count 10 players who have made the grade.

Except for his height I would probably say that’s his biggest flaw, I’m only just realising now how incredible it is that we’re playing someone so un athletic
His depth of kicking is just as shit. I would say that is his overarching issue. He can barely make the 50m line with a 10m start, it's killing our ability to stop repeat entries.

If one has the time, sir, would be interested in a Themanbun's Midfield Minute 2026 wishlist.

i keep thinking about early 2025 and in particular that melbourne game where he tore them a new one through the midfield.

how many midfield spots we got available?
I keep thinking about 2025 and in particular that bulldogs game where he squibbed a contest and it cost us a goal.

I dont know how you go back into the rooms and look at your team mates after doing that sh1t.

Needs to harden the heck up.
