When we're at full strength/health, that's not a role I want Powell performing. That is more of a role for McKercher and Simpkin. To facilitate that though, we need Jackson Archer and Riley Hardeman (and maybe Josh Goater) healthy and playing to free up McKercher to move forward.

The domino affect of a few key injuries is the reason Powell is where he is right now.

I would have pushed Kerch further forward into the midfield this week and bought in RHJ. Like most, I don't like both Kerch and Daniel in the back line, and think Kerch has more potential to break the game open with his run than Daniel. I didn't get the Spargo selection off the back of one game. At least RHJ is fit, got a heap of the ball in the VFL, and is arguably the best user by foot in the squad.

I think it is fair to point out that the role I have suggested Powell is playing (and it's purely speculation on my behalf) seems to be a difficult one. They did try Jy there last year, and he struggled a bit with it. I love him either on the wing, or as a defensive mid (who knew?), where he doesn't try to do too much. I also don't want Kerch that far forward, as he needs the room to make the most of his running power.

I think Tom has done it okay and has the skills to do it very well, but yesterday, apart from three or four possessions, just wasn't it. It is the sort of role where, occasionally, you're going to have a quiet game, but if he makes it a habit and gets dropped, so be it.

If Tom is playing well and still gets forced out because we are stacked with options, that will be a great sign.

It is easier to look at the midfield with percentages. There is 300% game time available in the middle.

In a 4-man rotation, we get:

- LDU (80%), Wardlaw (70%), Sheezel (70%), FOS (70%). That is already 290% with the other 10% easily shared across the other 3.

In my preferred 5-man rotation, we get:

- LDU, Wardlaw (70%), Sheezel, FOS (60%), Colby (40%)

That means, we really only need 1 player to be part of the 23 that will be the backup if a FT mid goes down.

Based on the weekend, Jy looks like he will be the guy, which means Powell or Urquhart won't be needed for that role.

We need a Higgins-style player to be the HF meastro, and George and Spargo are the only ones who fit the bill.

Laughable that we traded out of that draft. It was stacked, and it was seemingly only Luff who thought it was a below avg draft.

Just imagine our side with Serong or Kozzie Pickett. Fook me.
Luff the Charlatan.

Deadset grifter.

He’s the living embodiment of ‘baffle them with bullshit’.

When we allowed Luffy's bullshit Champion Data analytics too much say into who we took from the drafts, there was no hope.

That bloke deadset is a ****ing moron and the bloke that wanks to himself on SEN about Champion Data (Hoyne or whatever the **** his name is) telling the whole story probably has a poster in his room of all the highest ranked players since it was established to drool over then wank to. He probably also thinks he's worth a shit but probably has no friends and peaked in high school playing bubble trouble in the computer room with all the virgins around him propping up his ego.

Sounds eerily like a couple of BF posters

A game with so many variables simply can not be reduced to a statistical model to be used with such unabashed confidence.

He has to find a way to stay involved and be accountable. Far too often caught cruising in transition which is the reason why he was
Pulled out of the midfield in the first place.

If he is going to be a sub 20 disposal player you’d want to make sure you are far better with your kicking than he currently is.

His career trajectory is fast becoming similar to Trent Dumont’s.
monty developed a pretty big tank mid career. dont look like tom as anywhere near that.

This bloke is letting the team down not running both ways can clearly see it at the game

Yeah.

It's absolutely glaring how he jogs around and doesn't put in defensively. I have to assume he's not 100% healthy because there's no other excuse for it.

Started very slowly today but worked his way into the game. Did okay.

This bloke is unfairly maligned. Another good game today
Yeah this - he’s moved out of key mid role , to be a role player.
Ppl have to take that on board - obviously he’s not a rabid tackling machine but he is who he is.

When someone better comes along - he will be replaced

Eh… has his moments. From level 3 today I particularly looked out for the usual whipping boys…

Powell’s defensive running is just flat out poor, and inconsistent.

You see others regularly running past him in pursuit of the opposition, like Wardlaw, Jyza, Dova, Stephens etc. and attempting to pressure a turnover, all whilst he just jogs around. He does pick up the pace a bit when we have possession and he can get on the end of it, but I found it really noticeable today.

George is the one. If he can string together another couple of games, he could be the one.
