Won't be surprised if he gets a week. Gave Lewis one to the stomach off the ball. Lewis stayed down for a bit
Hopefully a fine under the mercy rule. From what I saw live they were very much getting into him physically before that - give em both a week and watch this nonsense disappear from the game.

Just reported on the wireless that “Tarryn Thomas has escaped conviction for threatening to distribute lewd photos of a former partner”.

I hope he takes this lucky break, and associated weight lifted from his shoulders, and makes every post a winner from here.

Troubled North Melbourne midfielder Tarryn Thomas has escaped conviction over a revenge pr0n threat against an ex-girlfriend after a magistrate found he had turned his life around.
Appearing in Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, the 23-year-old was instead fined $1000 and placed on a diversion program after he admitted to a single charge of using a carriage service to harass.

Magistrate Julie Grainger accepted Thomas, who was stood down by North Melbourne after he was charged, had taken responsibility for his actions and completed behavioural change programs and worked with an Indigenous start-up.

“You have obviously taken this matter very seriously,” she said.

“You have worked really hard to better yourself.”

The court heard Thomas, who also goes by the last name Trindall, had threatened to leak intimate videos of himself and an ex-girlfriend that had been recorded consensually.

Thomas had been arguing with the woman over Instagram when she made a comment about the footballer’s mother which he took offence to.

He then told the woman he had leaked the videos.

“The complainant believed Mr Trindall had distributed those videos but he had not,” Ms Grainger said.

Thomas was initially charged with threatening to distribute an intimate image but the offence was struck out at Tuesday’s hearing.

Ms Grainger accepted Thomas was struggling with mental health issues, alcohol abuse and the death of his grandmother at the time of the offending in July last year.

“Your feelings might be hurt, it’s in the context of a relationship breakdown … but it’s no excuse for responding in the way you did,” she said.

“What Mr Trindall is taking responsibility for today is acknowledging those Instagram messages were harassing, inappropriate, unacceptable.”

The court heard Thomas, who returned from suspension in May, had the support of the football club.

So Tarryn escapes conviction for threatening to distribute intimate videos of a women who more than likey cheated on him and gave as good as she got during a heated instagram exchange? Tell me there is more to it than this?

Surely the multitude of women who were also abused will have their day in court? Or did they just want Tarryn punished without any due diligence?

I don't believe that cheating was part of this. The news report mentions some comments that the woman made about Tarryn's mother, and there may have been some other fighting words and inappropriate comments in amongst it all, but you can't assume any unfaithfulness on anyone's part. Not that it's anyone's business anyway, but **** shaming isn't relevant or appropriate here.

The finding doesn't mean that the accuser wasn't justified in feeling threatened. Very unnecessary post.

North Melbourne midfielder Tarryn Thomas has been ordered to pay $1000 to charity but avoided a conviction after threatening to distribute intimate content of his ex-girlfriend last year.

Thomas, who also goes by the name Tarryn Trindall, was granted a diversion on Tuesday after he admitted in court to threatening to share intimate videos of his former partner, although he had told his partner that he had shared them already.

The 23-year-old’s lawyer, Sally Vardy, opposed releasing details of the incident, but following an application from the press, Magistrate Julie Grainger agreed some details could be made public.

The magistrate said Thomas sent a message to the complainant over Instagram on July 17, 2022, accusing her of being intimate with another person.

During an exchange of messages, Thomas said he took offence to a message that referenced his mother.

“[Thomas] told the complainant that he had distributed intimate videos of the two of them, videos where both parties had consented to the recording,” Grainger said.

Thomas was initially charged with threatening to distribute an intimate image of another person before the charge was withdrawn on Tuesday and replaced with a single count of using a carriage service to harass after he agreed to take responsibility for the incident.

Vardy said her client was a proud Indigenous man who was born in NSW and raised in Tasmania after his family relocated when he was 11. She said when Thomas’ parents separated, it “drove a wedge” between him and his extended family, and he had no contact with his mother for some time.

She said he had since made up for lost time and now had an intensely strong relationship with his mother and paternal grandmother. At the time of the incident, she said, Thomas’ grandmother had recently died and he was struggling to cope with the sudden loss.

“He wasn’t coping very well,” Vardy said.

“Given his state of mind at the time ... he overreacts.”

Vardy said that since the incident, her client had done everything possible to engage in relevant offending programs, including participating in a behaviour change program, receiving social media education and seeing a psychiatrist.

She said Thomas also had the support of his employer and had spent time working as a cleaner for an Aboriginal start-up during the court proceedings.

Grainger acknowledged the footballer had taken responsibility for the incident and said he’d done great work over the past year to learn how to better deal with “heartache and disappointment” and “manage his own emotions”.

The magistrate said while Thomas’ feelings may have been hurt in the context of a breakdown of his relationship, there was no excuse for his behaviour and labelled the messages harassing, inappropriate and unacceptable.

“We all have to be responsible for managing our own emotions,” she said.

She ordered Thomas to pay $1000 to the court fund – which distributes money to charities – and placed him on a diversion, meaning the single charge of using a carriage service to harass will not form part of any criminal record.

“You have worked really hard to better yourself,” the magistrate said.

Thomas returned to play with North Melbourne this season following a short time away from the club.

I agree, the accuser no doubt would have felt violated when told by TT that intimate images of her had been distributed. However, there is absolutely no evidence that any images had been distributed, so the Police grasped at "threatening to distribute" which is quite a reach. He never technically threatened to distribute. It would be like confessing to a murder that never happened, and so the police charge you with threatening to murder. Makes no sense and was destined to be dropped just as the magistrate has done in this instance.

But again, that's not to diminish the experience of the accuser or to underplay Tarryn's bad behaviour, for which he has paid a price.

Wow, look at how court journalists twist facts. This article is disgraceful. Claiming that TT admitted in court to threatening to share intimate videos whereas the only transcript comes from the other article in which the magistrate clearly says “The complainant believed Mr Trindall had distributed those videos but he had not.”

Learn from the mistakes of many TT.
You were cashed up, vulnerable and there are just so many distractions that can make it all disappear in an instance.

I have no doubt his career being on the crossroads has woken him up.

Get that closure. Again learn from it and forge your own path.

I don't believe that cheating was part of this.
Thomas accused her of cheating, its what set this whole thing off.

In July 2022, Thomas accused his ex-girlfriend of being intimate with another person while they were speaking to each other via Instagram messages, Magistrate Julie Grainger told the court.
The pair began arguing, exchanging a number of messages, and the woman said something about Thomas' mother which he took offence to.

What set it off is she said nasty stuff about his Mum

Can't qwhite work out why the jacks never charged Nathan Broad (who actually did it) but subjected the Aboriginal man to the whole court room disaster.
