It’s hard to believe the thought process(or lack of) in selecting him yesterday.

In saying that he had a couple of moments that made you go we’ve got a good one.

Agree with both these points. He seemed to be in the right place an awful lot of the time, did the simple things well and seems to have that knack of making interesting things happen.

That said, I'm not sure why he was in the team when surely we have better options right now. If he was a forward then Larkey or Watson have similar pace and more development. If as a pocket surely Wilks is more ready to go or Taylor who looks very lively and has a lot more pace. If as a slower mid... well, let's not go there.

Very excited to see him in though, polished first game. Did a lot right and will improve. I wouldn't be against him playing again next week if he has the fitness and the right role.

You mean leaving him as a late in? Maybe he's a shy kid who would have preferred not to have a midweek song and dance about it? Or they genuinely were giving Frog up until the last minute to get up?

Or do you mean Ahern was a better like-for-like option? I tend to agree, though we're picking so many mids that replacing Dumont with a mid-forward isn't a huge problem for structure.

On your last point, yep for sure he did enough to show he'll be a good player, and likely very soon.

Quietly very happy to see him get another chance this week. I thought he showed plenty in his debut. Has a great footy mind.

Seems that way doesn't it.

But if he's been around the club for three years it kind of makes sense.

If he's a smart kid, immersed in footy (at whatever club from a young age) and trying to understand how the game works he'll be a very smart player. A few years ago when the coach lip synched the words "**** we have some dumb players" we were crying out for the sort of players we have in TT, BS (the good one) and LDU.

Will Walker has really nice positioning and quick instincts too. Feel like soon we're going to feel the hurt from stuffing the 2014, '15 and '16 (maybe too soon to call but Simpkin is stalling, Williams is gone and Watson and Larkey are still both speculative) drafts though. Need to keep nailing picks to cover that.

Somewhere in the last day or so someone posted a comparison of Simpkin and Cunnington at a similar age. It was pretty even. Also in the afl match feed at 3Q 11:56 in there is mention of Simpkin having a quiet first half with 5 disp. and that he's already matched it this far into the third and shares the contested possession lead with Cunners and LDU.

So perhaps persisting with Simpkin in the middle is good development for him. Perhaps if he does struggle more then he will be dropped but perhaps its also worth persisting with him atm because he's getting more passages like that per game. I dunno but our stats freaks might.

Good point about the draft too. Seems we went more at KPP and they haven't come on as we'd hope. Larkey and MacKay seem ok at this point tho.

Nah mate , Simpkin has been flat out garbage and needs time in the VFL . He has gifts and there’s no denying that but he’s playing like a man who’s mentally shot . You don’t need 30 touches or a bag of goals to prove your worth to the team but when you drop simple chest marks , miss tackles , go to ground a lot , try look away handballs or go at a disputed ball one handed ... then that is detrimental to the team and his own confidence.

True - but can you please tell me how long is the tunnel?

Good hands.
Feel like he’s already been restricted by the AFL system and Brads style of coaching.
Tarryn has elite attributes and they aren’t being utilised. Its painful to watch.
