Justin McInerney
Sydney Swans youngster Justin McInerney is lightning-quick, an endurance machine and a clean user of the footy who’s best used on a wing or at half-back. The Northern Knights product was called up for his AFL debut against Melbourne at the SCG in Round 4, 2019, and although he wouldn’t feature at the top level again in his first year at the club, he was a stand-out in the NEAFL. McInerney is eyeing more opportunities at senior level in 2020.

Justin McInerney
DOB: 18 August 2000
DEBUT: 2019
DRAFT: #44, 2018 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Banyule (Vic)/Marcellin College (Vic)/Northern U18

Technique maybe?...like Amartey last night didn't drop his shoulder so the contact ended up being to the the head not the shoulder. But it's concerning he keeps on doing it and it needs to be addressed by the coaches.
Another suspension is not what we need. I think he's going to get a couple of weeks for it.

Played well last night, better than the last weeks. But what I like since he's returned to the side is he's really getting involved and, contrary to the views of some posters, he's transforming himself from a spindly outside player into a more balanced midfielder. I don't think you can say he's shirking the contest. Still isn't great at tackling effectively but runs all day, gets stuck in, has strut and lifts the team a bit Papley-like, and is capable of using the ball beautifully when he's on song. His form in recent times has been inconsistent - but it's trending in the right direction and at his best he's a ripper.

Just the one. Ran through the pack. Genuinely careless. Accidental but that doesn't get him off. You could argue low vs medium impact but that's all.

Needs to be "counselled" by the coaches. I remember at least a couple more occasions where he has done the same thing in past games but luckily just avoided contact.

As a club I don't think we generally entertain snipers playing for us and he needs to be reminded that head knocks have real repercussions both for him in suspensions as well as the players he takes high.

Horrendous take to call him a sniper.. I don’t know how anyone could look at that contest last night and think he had any intention to ‘snipe’ silvagni, he body lined the ball, tucked his elbows in and silvagni got a slight clip and was fine..

I don’t think “sniper” is a fair way to describe him.

Just needs to be told to tackle not bump. He gets the bump wrong too often.

If that was medium impact , low impact must be breathing on him.
It'll be the old potential to cause injury.

Thought he was unlucky earlier in the season with the Starcevich collision.
The fact that Starcevich is still out is indicative of a guy whose his history shows is susceptible to concussion.

But the manner in which he 'contested the ball' in the Silvagni incident was just plain dumb.
Simply you don't run through a pack these days with the intention of bumping.
The risk/cost is just too high.

This is the problem with the AFL flipping and flopping on "potential" to cause injury and actual outcomes from case to case.

I don't think McInerney is a sniper or has malicious intent. I just think like a lot of our players, playing hard & physical footy doesn't come naturally to them and so they're clumsy & reckless in their efforts to do so.

Good intent, poor execution.

I’d rather a few “sniper” incidents than not going at all
