I don’t think the collision with Norton should be a suspension, though it was clumsy. I’m sure the coaches will speak with him about having a bit more awareness and care.

I don’t mind the commitment on debut though. People calling for a suspension should remember it also could have gone terribly wrong for Edwards if Norton was playing with more self preservation. I remember Tippet lifting his knees to a defender coming back with the flight some time ago. Very nasty impact, despite no bad intent from Tippet.

Speaking of which, Cox was absolutely delighted with both Edwards and Cootee all the way from announcement to post game. Like they were his own kids. Pretty sure I spotted a tear in his eye after Cootee's goal.

I saw that too. They panned to the box after Cootee's goal and he was misty eyed.

it'd be difficult to understand edwards being sent back to the seconds based on that debut, i'd imagine if that were to happen the young lad himself would be confused and pretty frustrated
as i posted elsewhere, now he's in seniors just leave him there to develop

He’ll probably have ups and downs, like most players finding their way at senior level. I don’t think he has a mortgage on a senior spot after one game.

... and i just don't see the benefit of a yo-yo policy with young players ...
if they don't make an absolute mess of their debut (which edwards obviously did not), and there's no one specifically demanding their spot in the team (eg, the return of a heeney or a gulden), they get another crack

It all depends on what he was told. Likewise Hamling and Melican. Hopefully communication with all three has been very clear and there will be no surprises.
