Ron Branton was a three-time Richmond best and fairest winner - winning the award in three consecutive years (1960-62) - and wore the club's famous number 29 jumper - later worn by the club's games' record holder Kevin Bartlett - with distinction in 171 matches.

thanks for your help though

Incorrect. I sent an email to a person who might know yesterday - being Rhett Bartlett, & his response was:

Hi there,
"Strangely enough I am getting a few emails about this. Is there some competition I am not aware of." lol

"Mr Rodney Evans wore number 29 immediately before my father"

interesting , puts paid to flights bullshit story on ron branton:rolleyes:

more incorrect than bullshit, dunno where all this tension is coming from

Actually Flight was pretty close.
Rodney Evans only played a handful of games , and Branton himself won 3 best and fairests all in succession (as flight notes), - (and interestingly, all as captain) - so before KB, Branton was certainly the more famous 29 wearer

Rhett Bartlett

I think it's important to have these discussions - Many of the posters on BF are unaware of any players pre-1990 unless they are in the Media.

The Richmond Footy Club has existed for over 120 years, and 100 in the VFL/AFL. We have a great history, and we need to recognise that.

KB was my favorite player, but I must admit I was pleased when I found out he wasn't the first great player we had in No. 29 - it feels like he was carrying on a tradition in the club.

Now we just need to find the next great 29 - did KB curse it? (Jason Torney was OK, but not quite the same level)
