Sick Bay (Or what ails you)

Not sure they can help in this case Dave. Just got back from seeing my usual doc and also got the report from MRI.

Seems I have issues with C5 and C6 Vertebrae, compressing on the nerves.

Lot of medical jargon to do with exit foramia are severely stenosed. (the narrowing of the cervical disc space caused by enlargement of a joint).

Going to see a neurosurgeon but sadly age and arthritis may have done its damage. Anyway, not taking any more tablets, put me on pain patches.

IF it's your Back then they could relieve the Pressure on the Nerves that was shown in the X-Ray.

I use Gonestead Chiro and Found it does a Fantastic Job on my Back.

Arthritis definitely does not help

Problem is in the neck Dave, don't really want anyone playing with that. I will see if there is any physio that i can do when I see the specialist.

At least I can hold the mouse and type with less pain at the moment. The other good thing is that because of it, I have dropped 5 kilos.

Waitng to get okay from heart specialist as I have to go off one of my heart tablets for three weeks.

I always knew it wasn't shingles.
To put simply, vertebra in my neck pinching nerves which cause the pain in my arm and hand. No other way but operation. Got a big shock, operation cost about $35,000 and about $5,000 out of pocket. Lucky I have health cover otherwise would put up with pain.

Good luck for a rapid recovery. It sounds hideous, but the patients I've worked with have done really well. Fingers and toes crossed for you.

Just thought I would update for you.
Went to my heart specialist and he suggested that I get a second opinion given that the pain has gone away.
Didn't like the idea of an op and going off my meds for three weeks if not urgent.
Man this is costing money, in light of the recent news on specialist fees, this new one is going to cost $350 for first visit (rebate $110).
Anyway, happy to get a second opinion as I dislike hospitals, even just visiting.:)

That is why you never see a Poor Doctor.

Could go to 5 Different Doctors and get 5 Different Diagnosis

Hey maggie5 sorry to hear you are in such a bad spot. Everyone is going to probably jump on my back for this but after 20 plus years of injury and 7 years of chronic pain due to disc/nerve related issues I've been receiving treatment from a talented osteopath who after about a year has not only given me pain relief but has almost fixed me back to being a normal person.

If you are interested Im willing to share details :) Good luck!

Thank you so much, may take you up on that after the 27th, anything to avoid an operation.

Fair enough, if the pain has gone away I wouldn't be taking the surgical option at this juncture. There is only a weak relationship between pathology found on imaging and patients' reported symptoms anyway. If it ain't broke...

I still think Gonstead Chiro could be worth a Go

I'd see an osteopath / or a decent acupuncturists before a Chiro - way more gentle. I wouldn't think that a cervical manipulation with your current issues would help (could make it a lot worse - so I wouldn't risk it. Also physiotherapy to check out your posture and provide some exercises to help with that (or google deep neck flexor exercises / improve prostate exercises). Surgery should be the last option - last resort. If you fuse one level and your posture stays the same then the next level will eventually get issues. Need to determine the cause - and treat the cause and let the body try and heal it self. No sure where you live you for whole body strength with safe and efficient exercise equipment (prescribed by a exercise physiologist or physio) you need to get onto some MedX machines / Kieser. Hope you get better - PS Zen Spray from the chemist is great as a topical pain relief (like deep heat but better).

I'd sooner go to a surgeon than a Chiro if I wasn't in pain. ;)

Chiro is way Cheaper then Doctor.

IF It works you pay about $50 instead of few Thousand Dollars

Agree that Surgery be the last thing Possible. Well I been to Chiro and I found it can Really Help. Never done a Osteopath and what I saw in Video it's pretty much looks like Chiro

This is my 100% recommendation as well.
