Australia won the toss and elected to bat first.

After 6 overs, Australia is 0/16 with Slater and Hayden both on 8 runs off 18 deliveries.

Just in the other lives scores from BaggyGreen - did anyone notice that the "Pakistan International Airlines" is playing a game today? What a cracker!!!

17 overs gone - Australia 0/52
Looking pretty good, Slater was caught in slips of a no-ball.

The pitch is an absolute belter, its dry as. The outfield is lightning fast.

If the pitch doesn't slow down and turn a bit as the match goes on, its hard to see a result.

Slater and Hayden have looked brilliant. theres been lots of 4's and the Indians are frustrated.

great, there goes martyns chances of being in the team, Slater hasn't been in great form and this will cement his spot and meant that Martyn loses out yet again...

Tea day 1 - Australia 1/193

MJ Slater c Mongia b Khan 42 from 99 balls inc. 7 fours and 1 six
ML Hayden not out 97 from 153 balls inc. 14 fours and 3 sixes
JL Langer not Out 45 from 71 balls inc. 6 fours and 1 six
Extras 9
Total (1 wicket, 53 overs) 193

Its just absolute carnage at the moment. Langer was given not out when he was out. Guess that made up for Slaters decisions.

6/257

Ponting robbed
Gilchrist robbed even more so
Warnes roobed by the third umpy

Indian umpires are CHEATING curry munching scum

are the umpires serious.
is David Hookes serious.
ive seen hatricks with 1 bad decision, but never 2 bad decisions and a pretty dicey one.

Ponting - pretty unlucky, some umps would've given that not out.
Gilchrist - pitched at a metre outside leg stump. umpire got caught up in the emotion. David Hookes has still denied it pitched outside of leg stump.
Umpire should get sacked for that decision.
Warne - bump ball. third umpire gave it not out on the first replay without any evidence whether it bounced or not.
Third Umpire should get sacked for that decision.

Absolutely redicolous umpiring if i've ever seen it.

Anyway, i'll make a predicition here - we will see the greatest ever test innings from Steve Waugh. This has all the makings of it.

STUMPS DAY 1
Australia
8/291
hmmm umm well yeah not happy after being 190/1.
Bloody hell the indians appeal for absolutely everything!! They would appeal a six.
biggrin.gif

Too bad Haydo didn't get his hundred, he played very well.
Bloody umpires, but who wouldn't be intimadated by 11 screaming indian players plus the 75 000 crazy ppl going off?!

Great. I missed everything from about 1/150 till stumps. Cricinfo seemed pretty satisfied with Ponting's dismissal, less so about Gilchrist's and made no comment on the validity of Warne's. But it's not as if we don't get the rub of the green at other times.

I thought we were on our way to a 4/600 declaration at one stage.

I could watch Mark Waugh or Gilchrist bat all day, but Langer is an ugly batsman to watch. He never looks set or even balanced, he always seems cramped up and half his shots look like afterthoughts. Good luck to him for scratching together half centuries while giving the impression of being completely at sea, but every innings of his an ordeal. Pity, because he appears to be one of the nicer guys in the team.

Anyway, I think we'll still win comfortably. Unless it all comes together for Tendulkar and some of his mates hang around for long enough.

We still need to get Tendulkar out twice, if we do that cheaply, we should win. Gillespie is a good defensive batsman and hopefully he can hang around with Waugh long enough to add a few more runs. I reckon tomorrow morning is crucial, if we can bat on for a session it will frustrate the Indians no end. If we're shot out quickly, they could bat for a while with the crowd going wild.

Is that another one of those innings where he leaves the tail to face two-thirds of the strike, leaving himself on a precious not out at the end, and everyone hailing him as a hero

Sorry I don't share your enthusiasm, but I've seen it all before.

BTW, between Gilchrist's dismissal (71.3 overs) and stumps (90 overs), the tail had faced 74 balls out of about 111 (add the odd no ball). You do the maths...

after 7 overs of play today the aussies are 8/309
Gillespie just got given not out to what appeared to be caught behind but oh well you get that, im not complaining!

Steve Waugh is 41 not out
and Gillespie is 12 not out

Australia 8/377

Steve Waugh - 79
Jason Gillespie - 36

Darky:
I dont know how you can say that. Steve Waugh hands over the strike because he has confidence in the tail, why do you think they often put on runs with Steve. Like right now, this is the highest 9th wicket partership for Australia v India.
When other recognized batsmen bat with the tail, they make sure the tail doesn't strike. Then, when the tail get on strike eventually, they get out, and in the end the recognized batsmen is often not out as well.

Anyway, this was one of the best innigs i've seen for a while from Waugh and Gillespie has been good two. Hardly a false shot all match from the two.

How good is Steve Waugh with the tail? Gillespie has been fairly impressive too - 38* with 7 fours. Australia should be aiming for 400 plus for their first innings total.

But the game is still in the balance - India still has to bat!

My god!!! Were the greatest Test team in history by a long long way. Steve Waugh has to be one of the best Captains ever!! I honestly thought the Indians would be tough to beat but doesnt look that way.

GO AUSSIES!!
