Autopsy 3 Things You Learnt from Kangaroos v Swans

1. 1st halves have to improve otherwise we're going to get smashed by better teams
2. we can still kicked backs, 1st time we kicked 11 goals since the mid 90s against the crows
3. kieran jack has to be to one of the best midfielders in the league, he's right up there with Ablett, and his impact on a game is amazing.

1. Swans just shifting gears nicely when it mattered, thanks for the run north.
2. I just had a browse at the posts in the gameday thread, I could never watch and enjoy a game with any of the posters without slapping them.
3. Tasmanian Swans supporters, it was a sea of red and white on the TV great to see them turn up for the first chance to see our players since winning the flag well out numbered the roo supporters at their "home" game, much respect. :thumbsu:

1. Don't ever look away in disgust of our mighty club. They will make you pay for your moment of weakness.
2. Great work by our Tassie brothers & sisters for making it less of a North home game than I'm sure they wanted it to be.
3. Today is proof of what I (and many others) have been saying the last few weeks regarding our ability to seemingly just 'flick the switch' and 'turn it on' when we need to. We seem to be in control when we really need to be and looking back at the last 3 weeks it's almost like they were never in doubt and ended up as comfortable wins. That is something great teams (ala Geelong) are able to do and a great sign for us. Doing no more than is required until it is required. Very impressed bloods. Looking foward to next week big time.

  1. The importance of Shaw and his run to our game plan were illustrated in detail today.
  2. North have a very attractive game plan that will get their supporters excited when it all goes to plan, but it will not win them the flag. The inability to stop the opposition when they have the momentum is as important as putting points on when you have the swing.
  3. If/When Tippett comes into the team and pushes out a ruckman, it might be Mumford and not Pyke that could make way.

1. Well, we're still pretty mediocre. However there is pleasure in knowing that for the seventh time in a row we were less mediocre than North.

2. Our midfield sometimes stuns me. It's not that again ROK, McVeigh, Jack and Kennedy continue their good form. It's that young, 'second-string' midfielders like Hanners and Parker can be just as impressive and that even old hands that get plonked in the forward line for the 'twilight of their career' like Jude can still bring it.

3. I don't know if it was just the brightness of our colours which distorted my perception, but it looked like we out-numbered North fans. That's pretty impressive by the Swans fans in Tassie if true.

1. Sydney has a lot of improvement left.
2. Broken record. Amazing depth in midfield.
3. If we could add a quality KPF, this size could be really scary.

1. Best midfield in the league. No questioning this fact now. Possession quality and Goal spread has us 3-0 and got us last years Premiership.
2. McGlynn is in the side for THAT reason
3. LRT and Richards were great in defense, missed Shaw. Armstrong stood up a notch in the 3rd quarter, Malceski and Grundy were their normal selves - solid. But Malceski was a real stand out.

1. Sam Reid needs to pick up his game. Teammates aren't looking for him on the lead. Everitt spotted up Parker instead when Reid was obviously clear.
2. Upside from Reid, Goodes, Jetta, Bird, and Tippett is pretty tantalising
3. Our players need to learn how to tackle. Seems a bit cheeky to be saying this about the best tackling side, but they have to stop falling onto the back. Actually, not even that. They get their player to the ground legally, and then congratulate themselves by having a rest on their back.
3a. JPK needs to swing his arms when tackled. At least one HOB every single game for "no genuine attempt"

1. Forward lines are overrated
2. Mumford has a massive tank. Lots of forward pressure chasing, and roved his own ruckwork to start the chain that ended in Hannebury's goal in the last
3. A scoreline can be "picturesque"

This should be fun :D
1. We need to sort out our forward line, cant keep relying on mids to score.
2. Armstrong like a rabbit caught in headlights, panic handballs, missed tackles. Lots of running around waving arms
does not cover up fact that he is not capable of holding spot.
3. Little Benny has put last years finals heartache behind him and is enjoying his football again.

1. I didn't think Jude Bolton had a whole lot more to give at the end of last season and thought he probably ought to have hung up his boots to open up a spot for a younger player. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'd give him another season at this rate.

2. Still yet to put in a four quarter effort, though you can sometimes get away with that if you put in a one quarter effort like the third. Still, we lost the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters. We won't be able to get away with that against Geelong next week, though.

3. There is still a whole lot of improvement in this side, and most of it is in the forward line. The midfield is ticking along nicely and we have some good stability and dependability down back, though we are still working our way into the season and aren't at top speed just yet, but we are going to have to get the forward line working if we are going to go close to the premiership again. It is good to see midfielders that can rotate through the forward line and chip in with goals (Bolton 4, McGlynn 3, Hannebery 3, McVeigh 2, Parker 2 is a great spread) but we need to get more out of Goodes, Reid and the two resting ruckmen - only two goals between them this week, both to Goodes.

1. 2. & 3. Not particularly something I LEARNED in this game, but it definitely reinforced it. Jude is the ultimate professional and deserves to call time on his career whenever he feels he's ready to hang up the boots. May have slowed up a little but showed he still has plenty to offer

1. It's going to be impossible to split our blond midfielders for POTY voting for this game. I might have to throw Teddy into the mix for his game on Petrie just so the midfield don't hog all the votes!

2. Horse sets high standards for the team and is the ultimate professional. Didn't stop working the phones and made sure we didn't let Norf back in after their mini-comeback in the last quarter.

3. Goodes' little cameos in the forward line are going to be very handy until Tippett comes in, especially with Reid still out of form. Noticed he brought others into the game nicely during the third quarter blitz, despite not having many touches himself.

1. Sydney would do better in tas than the roos

Norf have never been accepted in any market, so why the surprise we outnumbered them today in Hobart?

2. Goodes does so many team things that go un noticed

True, but his knees have made him less sharp chasing a loose ball.

3. Mumford does what reid needs to as a forward

No, he is doing what the coaches expect Tippett to do as a forward once available. Reid plays a different role altogether.

Yes true re reid, i meant the effort and attack on the ball not the bashing packs and key role tippett will play. Reid hung back a lot until we got on top then he seemed to build in confidence and work harder

Some of his efforts off the ball today were poor
