4a. Full marks to Roosy for putting some spine into the Demons. It'll take time but he'll make a decent team out of them.
I guess you just have to hope that the Melbourne supporters are understanding of the stages of improvement that will hopefully take place for them. At the moment it's the defensive aspect, pressure, tackling etc. and from that base building the attacking side of the game. While the pressure that Melbourne put on was great, they just looked like they weren't all that fussed about scoring, which meant less mental pressure on our players who were missing their shots at goal.

On the flip side, I think North and the Bulldogs seem to have gone arse about with it and gone attack then try to build defensiveness, which I am not sure works.

1) Must admit I have been wrong about Goodes ... never really expected to see him play again, but if he can move like that he's fine for some time yet. Cameo appearance but what a reminder of how good he can be.
2) We're just going ... it was a dreadful game, to be expected with Roos coaching against us, but it's hard to comprehend the forward set-up ... terrible.
3) Rucks are going to be a problem ... Pyke as No 1 not ass effectinve as Pyke backing Mumford.

People aren't allowed to have an opinion on how others post now?

We're hardly the thought police here, but there is a bit of moaning about other poster's styles. Some are on the extremes of positivity and negativity, but most are pretty moderate with opinions but after a loss, shit will hit the fan.

I personally think that our mods are a cut above, just go to any other team board try to actually engage in a thoughtful discussion, and anything other than the echo chamber will get you banned.

I say cest la vie, Punts used to annoy a lot of people with his posting style, but noone questions his support of the team anymore. Some people you'll disagree with, that's just a part of life.

There's an ignore button people, if someone's opinions disgust you so much I suggest you use it. But I would suggest you refrain from doing so, and try to embrace, or at least think about, opinions that differ from your own.

Is it okay to have an opinion on someone else's opinion of our team? My opinion is that it's okay. What's everyone's opinion on that?

Anyway...

1. I learnt that Adam Goodes still has the ability and the skill to influence the outcome of a game. On a night where we were struggling to hit targets he came onto the ground and immediately started hitting team mates on the chest with vision and precision kicking that we've been desperately missing. When Goodes is ON, it seems like he's a man playing against a bunch of school kids.

2. Harry Cunningham is possibly going to be a star of Kieren Jack proportions in a few more seasons.

3. Rhyce Shaw still has a lot to offer our side, although I already strongly suspected that was the case.

I felt like I should mention Parker but I didn't learn anything else about him on the weekend. I think we all knew he'd be something special from his first handful of games.

1. Goodes is still a class above everyone else.

2. Our goal kicking against Melbourne continues to slide with 9.15 this year, while last year 16.20. But back in 2012 we did kick 21.12 (so there is hope).

3. Cunningham has improved dramatically this year.

Not sure what to make of our forward line but if Reid, Tippett, Goodes and Franklin are all fit then I wouldn't play all four there together as our defensive pressure inside forward 50 will suffer greatly. One of the hallmarks of 2012 and 2013 was the repeat inside 50's and goals from midfielders generated from this pressure.

My thoughts are Tippett plays the deep forward role, Reid plays at CHF and Franklin and Goodes play as roving forwards up the ground a little, almost like wing men. Derickx and LRT go out of the team in this case with Tippett pinch hitting in the ruck.

1. Just a say so game.
2. Just a say so result.
3. Glad when we put the last 6 weeks behind us .. except the Freo game of course.

Bring on the rest of the season and opposition. Get the hunger and fight back in the bellies and we should do okay.

After reading through this thread and a few others -

Never EVER underestimate a Champion. Adam 'Charlie' Goodes, The Everywhere Man & Australian of the Year is a true Champ ...

Surprises me so many fans either didn't think he'd make it back (his days were over) or didn't believe he would ever regain form and touch.

Adam's BACK ! :thumbsu:

I swear he's part Sherrin, part man. Goodes could no more lose his touch than Paris Hilton could lose her .......err.. way ?

Agreed. Some people have different standards of the team, but as long as we are civil when we disagree with each other then it is all part of healthy debate, in my opinion ;)

On topic:

1. Bird should start every week, very composed presence on the field.

2. A hard running Hannebery is a marvel to witness live.

3. When on song, Goodes is the best field kick in the side.

Fair point Grim but I for one find it hard to ignore someone, particularly a Swans fan, dissing our team. What particularly irks me are comments that are so callous and disrespectful that there is no way the fan would say it to the player's face.

How about that for a general guideline ? If you wouldn't be prepared to say it to them in person then don't say it on the board. Otherwise it's just cowardly backstabbing. It's what I teach my kids and it works for more than just footy. Criticism is fine if it's constructive, balanced, measured and not malicious.

Having said that I'll frankly admit that I'm not perfect in that regard and sometimes frustration gets the better of me. At that point I don't mind someone reminding me to moderate it a bit.

+1 Bird. He is a classy player (without the flashiness)

Bit of a funny side story - there is a bloke who sits near me at the SCG who loves to yell at the Swans. He likes to scream a lot of criticism and looks almost disappointed when the Swans are playing well (I'm not sure what his bigfooty username is).

Since we sit a fair way up the back and there are some spare seats, the reserves/injured players often sit around us. I thought this would shut him up but he seemed to enjoy it more.

At the Freo game Rohan was looking at him in disgust. Membery and Naismith thought it was pretty funny though.

I sat next to a guy like that once.

Turned up alone and saw a guy dressed in swans jacket, hat, scarf, lots of pins and badges in the hat, and thought, when the game starts, i'll have a chat to that guy. So the game started, and immediately he was just slagging every player for everything. It was astonishing. We won, and he was bitching and moaning the entire game. Takes all kinds i guess.

I was at Swans v North game at Etihad 4-5 years ago and there was a Swans fan just like that, right in the middle of the Swans fans behind one goal ... got stuck into them within about 30 seconds of the first bounce, did not let up for three quarters, then just got up and left ... from memory, the Swans had the lead at that stage but ended up losing and I wondered if the bloke would've been disappointed he didn't stick around.

I love guys like this - when they support the other team.

Until this bit, I was just about to ask whether you sit in Bay 31??

I love heckling the umps and oppo players, but I will stick it to our boys if they miss a tackle, shirk a contest, or fumble an easy ball.

I'll cheer louder than anyone if we play well though!

Sitting behind the posts in amongst the Swans cheer squad at Subi, there was this old lady not far from us. She was yelling "get ya act to gather Crowley" time'n'time again. Yes she was a Dockers fan all dressed up in her gear but I still don't know what she was expecting him to do. He was playing a great tagging game.

Maybe she was hanging for a *** or another Red Ned, whatever, Ryan was firmly in her sights.

As my first trip to the 'G I learnt:
1. We're such a big club off the field (Where I was sitting (GA, Great Southern Stand) we easily outnumbered Melbourne fans)
2. MCG is the best stadium in Australia. ANZ may be MCG-wannabes but are only wannabes and shall never be anything more than that
3. Night games in Melbourne can be quite cooler compared to Sydney.
