Jake Spencer (Melb) can accept a 3-match ban for his bump on Ben McEvoy. Steve Johnson can accept 2 matches for rough conduct Pearce Hanley....

UGH! He's a clumsy kid!

Fair enough, there was no intent to hit but he's just so damn clumsy.

Surprised by Johnson... I guess he has a prior loading, but I didn't think the incident was too bad given that he didn't leave the ground, didn't have another option really, and also that Hanley came back on later.

Did the bloke who belted Dawes get cited? Despite Dawes going down like he had been shot,it was still contact to the head , sorta :)

****ing disgrace that Spencer gets 3 weeks for unintentional contact to the head of a guy that was moving at him head first. I don't know about you guys, but if a 100kg bloke is barrelling head first towards my plums I'm going to turn my hip to protect the ol' fella.

What makes it worse is that the bloke that intentionally punched an unsuspecting Dawes in the head/neck gets one less week than Spencer, and it would have been two less if not for his bad record.

That really grinds my gears.

How the hell does a clumsy incident get more weeks than a deliberate punch?

Welcome to the chook raffle that is the MRP.

The points system takes all subjectivity out of it - the problem is we need subjectivity in certain cases.

Because the head is sacrosanct...... Wait what?

Aapparently that doesn't include punching the head though.

Oh please, the Spencer incident was far more serious than the hit on Dawes, intention aside.
But in this case his intent was to punch someone in the face & he successfully did so. As much as you may want to do so most players know its not acceptable & he should be punished accordingly.

I do agree though that there was more potential for serious damage in the Spencer incident but at least he played the ball.

I think it's a disgrace that an accident had cost a guy 3 games , he is no guarantee to have an afl career and an accident has cost him a massive chance to cement a spot

Just seems the penalty is way too harsh

Spencer is getting three weeks for clumsiness. I understand the need to protect the head but its a contact sport, sometimes shit happens. The incident deserved two weeks at most it's not like Jake has a shit record or anything.

Obviously no malice but he was always going for that, being clumsy is not really a good defence. It's a shame for him and incredibly bad timing given his situation.

Pretty sure that Dawes had given Simpkin a little chest punch and Simpkin was trying to do the same back and get his chest/shoulder but Dawes turned and his body lowered a bit turning it into a lower jaw hit.

Seriously though, it looks like a pretty ludicrous MRP decision from where I'm sitting.

The idea that a deliberate punch in the face warrants a less severe suspension than accidental contact, where Spencer's intention was clearly to go for the ball... I'm fairly amazed by that.

Exactly right mate :thumbsu:

At the end of the day, if you have a greivance with the penalties handed down, it's the fault of the points system currently being used. If you read the MRP full statement that Captain Jack posted the link to, I can't see any reason to argue with the logic utilised in assessing the incidents.

Maybe they need a 'behind the play / low dog act' multiplier? Is that included in the 'intentional conduct' points?

I feel sorry for Spence. When you have two football giraffes running at each other for a loose ball, it's never going to end well.

Gawn had a good VFL game from the report, so I guess he will come in. Any of our ruckmen will get smashed by Minno regardless, so hopefully they dont bother with Sellar or anything just to ruck.
