Player Watch #30: Reece Conca

Pretty simple for me...I would have Conca's whole game over Lambert's...that how poor i reckon lambert has been travelling...
Apart from racking up flybys with the kilometers he's ticking over...
Simple as he's still out performed Conca over three games. You said Involvement so if he's running further and harder then it contradicts your point.
As i said Lambert is on thin ice,but atm Conca is not his concern as he needs to do more.

I only mentioned Grigg because at the moment he is playing a wing role quite a bit, which I don't think he is good at. He was a wingman a few seasons ago before he turned himself into a very good centre midfielder who ran and presented and overlapped etc. Very good player with obvious credits. I think Conca, Grigg, Lambert, Prestia and Graham are the inside mids. (Edwards, Martin and Cotchin are untouchables as mids).
So whoever plays the best from these will play. Without Prestia, Conca got a gig and did well. That doesn't make him safe, but he is being played. Have a feeling Conca is reasonably well thought of by Hardwick and co.
I can't see Prestia coming in and being asked to play a full game as an inside mid after 2.5 quarters in 5 weeks of footy (JLT included). If he plays he will not play a full match. Conca was the next best inside mid of that group last week, and he surely has room for improvement.

That's the risk we take with Prestia...
It may be the best way to prepare him for the Dees match...the more pressing game..
If we cannot beat Brisbane with 21 and a 1/2 players (Prestia) then we don't deserve to go B2B...

There was a 4 possession difference between the two. In terms of pressure acts Lambo is ranked 4th on our list to Conca 13th . Last game Conca applied 13 acts whilst Lambo 15. So I can't see your point here bc if you're applying pressure it would appear you're getting involved.
I'd like to know the km run by both .
At this point of the season if I was selecting: Lambo is would be more in danger of cutting than Conca; yes he runs 14kms a game but he kicks the ball 6 times a game. At this stage he doesn't need footy boots. Lambert is lucky Jack G's form has dropped off, as has Townsend's. I would also leave the backline unchanged for 1 more week. That part of the ground is just settling. Short has his negatives but I'd like him to get the chance to improve at the top level. I think Broad is better than Short. But its a new year. We want to go back to back we have to see how our depth goes. I was quite surprised how well Jack H went given his underwhelming effort in the pre season. Jeez it'd be hard to drop him after that.

To be honest, I reckon Shorty is better used as a defensive wingman, with Menadue on the other wing... Fantastic line breaking ability either by foot or speed from both of them
So who is dropped for them both...

I thought Conca was fairly average in the first half of the game against the Hawks. He did improve in the second half though. Undecided whether I believe he should get a few more weeks or drop him now.

If he didn't get dropped for his performance against the Crows there is no way he's out after the Hawks game. Coaches seem to love him.

Good post as I’m always worried about which Conca will turn up. Also when he has the ball im in fear of what the outcome will be. He’s the type that will never dominate a game of footy , but he can certainly crucify one. Players with little x factor yet high risk with disposal are my least favourite .

Funny how different people view different players. To me Conca has an upside that has never been fulfilled. He may not dominate, only the very best like Cotch and Martin at richmond do, and of course you are nervous when he has the ball, he has made some shockers, but I think he has more x factor than Prestia, Grigg, Lambert, etc. Not a better player yet, but I think he can get there. (Watch him play a shocker this week now).

I thank you for your post bc it made me laugh in a variety of ways. ;):)

Higgo??He's replacing Rioli and there's no way Reece will replace him as he doesn't have the skills or the smarts to play this role?
Townsend?? Definitely not his role and would make us smaller and physically weaker.
Lloyd and Lambert are replaced by the other three INS . So Reece still plays VFL.

Broad will replace short, tough decision as he deserves to stay in the side.
Prestia will sadly replace Higgo
Caddy will replace lloyd

The difference is that we all know that was one of the worst games Lambert played and he can only get better
We all know that was one of the better games Conca played and most likely will get worse this week

I think ill stick with Lambert

I wouldn’t say conca has no X factor, the agility he has through traffic is pretty good. Kicking a worry

The will do a shuffle, they will not keep Higgo over Conca. Book mark it

Can’t see Prestia coming in for Higgins roles are too different in the side if anyone pushes Higgins out it’s shai or stengle after decent vfl outings in the same role
