I have never done a thread before so i hope anyone who reads
this enjoys it.I have always enjoyed the work and opinions of
the posters on this site especially the guys who put theirs
out mid year.Here goes.
**CHECK OUT VERSION TWO ON PAGE TWO **
#1-Stk- Christian Petracca 186 cm 92 kg
The american muscle car of the draft, heavy not as good
miles to the gallon as some of the more compact models.
Turns heads on the street and performance is solid.

#2-Melb- Angus Brayshaw 187 cm 87 kg
Good addition to the growing Melbourne group of mids
who looks very risk free selection.

#3-Melb- Patrick McCartin 193 cm 95 kg
Already cleared more hurdles than Sally Pearson to get
to this point in his football evolution and you have to
tip your hat to the young man and wish him well.

#4-Gws- Jayden Laverde 190 cm 82 kg
Utilities offer versatility and can fill many roles, Laverde
is one of the best picks in the draft and anyone who
selects him is a winner.

#5-Coll- Kyle Langford 190 cm 73 kg
plus-Versatile,explosive,tackles is a goal kicker and his
marking is a standout.Best hands in the draft.
minus-Skinny, but is only young.

#6-Gws- Jake Lever 192 cm 84 kg
Have not seen much of him as he was recovering from
an ACL last year.Speaks very well and did some mid
field coaching during his recovery last year.

#7-Gws- Sam Durdin 197 cm 89 kg
Very much the modern trend of converting a junior
ruck into a KPD could develop and thrive in the roll.

#8-GC- Nakia Cockatoo 188 cm 84 kg
High performance vehicle that spent a lot of time at
the mechanics, but when it gets on the road it goes
like the bejesus and makes you smile.

#9-Coll- Darcy Moore F/S 199 cm 93 kg
In five years he could prove to be the biggest bargain
of the draft even for a number nine.

#10-Geel- Jarrod Pickett 179 cm 76 kg
plus-Explosive game changer
minus-consistency

#11-WC- Connor Blakely 187 cm 81 kg
Inside outside clearance machine whose positioning
around stoppages is first rate not much not too like
about this kid.

#12-Rich- Jordan De Goey 187 cm 82 kg
plus-Kicking, marking and x-factor
minus-tackling,finding the ball.

#13-Freo- Hugh Goddard 196 cm 93 kg
Ross Lyon loves the name Goddard and while it is
not the object of his obsession the surname is
the same.Plus they need a KPD.

#14-Adel- Connor Menadue 188 cm 69 kg
plus-Explosive,clean,match winner.
minus-Inside ball gaining muscle
If Menadue was 80 kg certain top five pick.

#15-GC- Lachie Weller 181 cm 71 kg
plus-Smooth moving player who hits targets and
is athletic and quick and elusive.
minus-Strength

#16-Nth- Peter Wright 203 cm 102 kg
Had the Grundies after being a top three pick early
is he a ruck or is he a forward that is the question.
Petrie and Waite getting on make it possible.

#17-Ess- Liam Duggan 183 cm 76 kg
plus-Elite kicking playmaker with genuine speed.
minus-Inside game,composure.

#18-Syd- Isaac Heeney A/C 186 cm 82 kg
Don't know much about the academy picks, but
the general consensus is he is a steal.

#19-Carl- Paul Ahern 181 cm 77 kg
Clean smooth moving talent who could go a lot
higher in the draft goal kicker who has very good
foot skills.

#20-Ess- Caleb Marchbank 193 cm 85 kg
There is a bit of Cockatoo about this guy as he
has had his share of injuries, his good is very
good.

#21-Stk- Tom Lamb 192 cm 83 kg
plus-Versatility
minus-Consistency

#22-Stk- Reece McKenzie 196 cm 100 kg
If Petracca goes one then Stk would want one
of their picks to be a beast forward.McKenzie
fills the bill as they have lost some KPF's.

#23-Gws- Jarrod Garlett 177 cm 72 kg
plus-Elite skills on both sides, electrifying and
very quick and elusive.
minus-Small and light.

#24-Gws- Jack Steele A/C 186 cm 82 kg
Steele is a steal, no don't know much about
the academy picks.

#25-Nth- Oscar McDonald 196 cm 88 kg
Higher than he would have been rated, but if
North want a KPD then they may have to use
their second pick.Is under their nose and they
used their second pick on Brown last year.

#26-Dogs- Brayden Maynard 186 cm 88 kg
plus-Does have strength,speed and tackles
like he enjoys it too much.
minus-Endurance

#27-Dogs-Jackson Nelson 187 cm 80 kg
Black boots basic who is not flashy, yet does
everything well.
minus-speed

#28-Carl- Corey Ellis 185 cm 76 kg
plus-Kicking,vision and tackling
minus-Quality over quantity, but is young.

#29-GC- Ed Vickers-Willis 190 cm 82 kg
Versatile,consistent, clean ball use.
minus-Offensive game,tends to link rather
than finish. That will come in time.

#30-Coll-Damien Cavka 184 cm 79 kg
plus-Ball winning endurance beast who
can link possession.
minus-Field kicking

There are plenty of other options who
could go 25-40 without surprising.

BEST PHANTOM DRAFT YET !!!!! Doubt it will play out like that but if we netted Ahern and Ellis after getting Jaksch and Whiley well let's just say I would be very embarrassed for a month .....

We had an avco washing machine in the seventies and they sponsored
Carlton so iv'e always had a soft spot for them.Agree on Ahern could go
as high as ten, Don't forget Tutt and Jones a new club may just flick
the switch in them both.

Isn't that a good thing? I'd rather have a guy that had 20 damaging disposals than 30 meaningless ones
What that means is he does not get it a lot, but his possessions are
always memorable. He is a young man and like it or not consistency
is an issue with most young players.

Can't see Wright sliding that far, but love your work. Like the others, would be very happy if it panned out like that for Carlton.

With Patton injured and Boyd gone you are probably right, they have got
Cameron,Tomlinson,Stewart and McCarthy though and may choose to go
with a more dynamic forward line that was my line of thinking. They have
already cut a large amount of players yet still are loaded with talent.

Wright could be used primarily as a Ruckman at GWS though. He'd be the perfect replacement for Mumford in a few years. But even if GWS aren't keen, couldn't see him getting past Freo or even Adeliade. I think Wright is going to be that perfect versatile player who can ruck and dominate up forward as well.

No doubt the ruck/fwd is a valuable asset with the cap on rotations
i am sure we will here his name fairly early on.

Is there any chance duggan or even Lachie weller slip to st.kildas pick 21? Dream scenario for the saints would be petracca/Ellis/weller or duggan then a tall at pick 41 plus pick up mckernan as a rookie

I don't think Weller or Duggan will slide to 21, with the saints getting
Membrey as a third forward option plus Spencer White and Tom Lee
on the list developing a beast forward like Reece McKenzie could be
a good long term pick. I am sure the saints with back to back picks
21 and 22 are positioned well to take advantage of any surprises
that occur in the top twenty.

If we got Ahern at pick 19 I wouldn't care who we picked up at pick 28!
I would love to see either R McKenzie or Garlett sliding to pick 28 but that isn't going to happen.
Carlton definitely can't afford any mistakes this year with most of the core group getting closer to 30 than 25

I think Carlton will be able to target specific needs with their picks as
they have been adding depth to their list in the trade and DFA periods.
It's getting harder to close the gap on the top sides though.

What about picks 9 and 24 as well i would hope you would agree with those
to, thank god for father/sons and academy picks.

Oh, there are other teams? I didn't even bother looking at their picks. I suppose you're right though

Picks 9, 18 and 24 are all locked in already pre-draft that's what i was
referring to, i know i have got three right at least.

I know... I was just noting that you haven't needed to take a guess at a Swans pick... would love to know your thoughts on pick 37

Can't see west coast wasting a first round pick on Blakely with Weller ahern and de goey still available

I rate Blakely very highly i have not seen a young player so natural in his
positioning around the stoppages for a long time and with Priddis tipping
thirty he seemed a good choice. Pickett and Cockatoo would be front
runners in reality, but i am sure West Coast will make a good choice as
there is plenty of talent likely to be available at their pick.If Blakely was
to slide to pick 26 i would be very happy.

Maybe pick 37 could be used on a KPD Oscar McDonald, Keenan Ramsay
and Daniel Nielson should all be around that range. Sydney don't have
many weaknesses maybe a zippy small forward could be an option too.

I'm starting to lean towards small forward ahead of anything else, we need to make more out of the contests Tippett and Buddy create.
