Player Watch #31: Josh Goater - re-signed until the end of 2026

Shock, horror. Three perma-placeholders on the injury list over the last two years; him, CCJ and Sausage. No doubt we can expect a setback for one of the other two soon. (Sod the superstitious crap)

We really don’t have that many. Literally one of the best injury lists in the comp. We only have Goater and CCJ on the injury list now.
I’m referring to Goater and his relapses mate

The best ability is availability :/ stern look

2025 Letter to Members

What a year! Who would've thought we'd take the AFL double - Expected Score Premiership and Availability Premiership.

On a lesser note, winning 1 game and finishing with a percentage of 45 was sobering but shouldn't take anything away from our latest new trophies.

More to come..

Roger that mate! Tough run for Goater but thankfully it was only minor strain.
All good rf

Like I get one or two setbacks, but it seems his conditioning is way off if the quads tight during a warm up.

Soft tissue injuries during conditioning blocks following a big injury (ACL, Achilles) are more common than most think. If we're still here in a year then the convo is worth having. Until then let's all just get behind this bloke who is no doubt more frustrated than anyone here.

Minor quad strain. Still not worried
Exactly, these things happen from time to time, its normal, yet to some, we are cursed/ jinxed, actually I think we are, but these things are not linked. One very small sample; Charlie Comben, 35 games in 6 years, if he had a shower, you knew he would slip on the soap and injure himself, over the six years there were so many little injuries that if research were done, he would surely rank in the top 5 of all time at the club and yet here we are.

Getting more games into him, getting his body ready for AFL, getting fitter and learning little things along the way is all part of the process. 35 games, half the people on this board didn't think he would even play a bunch of games let alone 35, Josh is a player, he's young, some injuries along the way and people doing the same thing albeit in a smaller sample, not all, but he's one I'm completely not worried about.

I know its been five years roughly, but with youngsters coming in every year I do feel at times that some think it's never going to happen or that it should be happening already, the boys have to get games under their belt and get conditioned for AFL football, to all clubs this happens to everyone, if you have very little patience, you will get found out very quickly in this caper.

Something worth remembering.......

Well, George Kittle likes this! {AMA}, Ability is what your capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. Patience is not simply the ability to wait--its how we behave while we're waiting. ;)

Yep Simmo said a similar thing on AFL360 a few weeks back. Sounds like setbacks can happen. Get well Goat.

Some positive news here.

Told my mate today that a new contract is on the way and he's expected to be back soon and play minutes against Werribee.
If this bloke can Lazarus himself it would be huge.

Geez GR, I asked Jacko last night how his leg was and he said it's pretty good. I optimistically took that to mean "two weeks".

At the most!!!!!
Yes, plenty have been optimistic and they end up taking longer

i.e Sausage's VFL return earlier this year , didn't end up coming back for another 6 weeks.

According to Goat, he's built strength in his kicking leg which was causing him issues so fingers crossed here.

He needs a bit of clean air similar to Chom - and we know how that is going. This kid deserves it. We need to have essentially our second first rounder from the JHF draft work out.
