Autopsy 31 point loss to Collingwood

I’m sick of the Brisbane Lions comparisons from last year excuse. You’re kidding yourself if you think we are emulating that.
If you’re talking about my comment/gif, I was being 100% facetious/sarcastic.
No team could emulate what Brisbane did last year and there’s no way this Swans team will get anywhere near such a feat. We don’t have the depth that Brisbane do.

Dont want to see McLean in that side again. He’s hopeless, proves it week in week out. Yes kicked two goals, me from a ruck free kick and a Joe the goose and the back.
Ladhams is like a 200cm headless chook, Amarty, just wildly inconsistent.

So right here it’s obvious we have the 3 worst talls in the afl. Can’t take a grab, get bullied in ruck contests, what’s the point?

Florent again 0 impact, but let’s keep wheeling him out.
Hayward, big game so standard is he folds like a target deck chair.

Got to get games into Sheldrick and Cleary in the middle, Rowbottom a genuine battler, Warner playing mostly forward and we have a tagger in there so someone has to step up as a contested ball winner.
Yes Sheldrick poor disposal but he needs consistent games to get used to the speed on the AFL then his efficiency will improve.

All in all the same faces just proving they aren’t up to it when pressed by the better teams.
When denied the corridor, what’s plan B Cox?
I think it was around 2021 we became a corridor or bust team. Would've thought we could've developed a plan B in 4 years?

If he keeps whinging for frees and stops to do it while play is going he can move to the VFL
Yep, anywhere but the backline includes the VFL for mine. Literally playing a defender down every single week. Arguably 2 with Rampe. A defensive performance like this was only a matter of time.

This game, never provided me any hope since midway through Q2 that we'd get back into the game.

Hard to see positives tonight, we didn't get thumped by 10 goals but might as well been.

Statistically we won the i50 count but to quick rebound 50 by Pies with nil forward 50 pressure or bringing the ball the ground was telling.

Game was lost in the coaches box, our corridor play was taken away and we looked at sea.

Nick Daicos, as much as he gets a good run with the extra men on the field, was brutal, breaking tag and was influential.

Need to move on quickly.

The depth or the quality in the best 22 honestly. It's said about a lot of teams that win a Premiership, but they've got a list to build a dynasty around, ESPECIALLY if they get Allen this year because the void Daniher (massively underrated - by fans, not so much the media) left is about their only flaw.

Not specifically every thread mentions it to justify we are still a chance. As you say there isn’t a real comparison. Their seconds are usually very competitive and we are almosts

Thought Ladhams follow up work around the ground was good. Didn't blaze away, knew he had time and space before the give. Calm in traffic. Think he should stay in over McLean.
Agreed. McLean's kicking for goal was awesome but his clangers undid any of that good work and he had no impact otherwise.

Ladhams did some nice things and didn't actively harm us. Easy call for mine.

It’s a great point. I mean just a resemblance of a plan B would be nice.
Honestly not sure many coaches seem good at going from Plan A to B. I think most of the dominant teams over the last decade or so lack great Plan B's. Hell I think Longmire did have some genuine coaching masterclasses, admittedly mostly in the H&A season and not so much in 2024 but before that there were quite a few games where an excellent gameplan helped Sydney get some surprise wins.

That said, it does seem too easy of a gameplan to shut down on paper. But equally, you could say the same thing about Richmond's game plan between 2017 and 2020 and it took a lights out performance to stop them winning 4 in a row.

1 contested mark for the whole game. Double the hit outs yet couldn’t win the clearances. Couldn’t hit a target by hand. Couldn’t mark the ball to save ourselves. F50 entries pathetic.

A putrid effort from a bunch of players that need to spend less time playing dress ups and more time on basic ****ing skills.

We are a chance this year still, we need troops back and win at home, if we lose to port at home then maybe it's ****ed but we have to win that and get back level , and just get to half way at 50-50 at least

what was our contested mark? can't even remember it

can't wait for the white shit auction

Good time to point out those who insisted on Grundy being too old/cooked etc. Was exceptional tonight, who knows what the score would have been without him

Recieving a stack of handballs and then butchering the disposal =/= exceptional

He's moving really well and getting into good positions but otherwise lacks polish

More worried about GC into GWS afterwards than I am about Port.

5 very winnable games heading into the bye after those though, so still a real chance at finals if we can get the 4 points next week.

Yep but we can't drop "easy" ones against Port

Grundy in defence, third quarter
That's right. Far out, dire times when Grundy takes 100% of your contested marks hahaha.

Some piss weak defensive efforts from Chad. Midfield got slaughtered when it mattered most. Rampe is cooked, Sheldrick is meh. Melican needs to take marks otherwise he's ineffective. Heeney kept us from getting blown out. Good pressure from the youngsters & fringe players but once again our senior & more media noted players were piss weak.

Would it hurt to have another option when the corridor gets blocked off? maybe offer multiple leads rather than standing still or even some handball receives & run which means our handballing skills need to improve big time. Far out that was a bummer.

Yeah 2-6 will be pretty tough to come back from. Not impossible, we did do so in 2017, but tough.

- Look we stopped it from blowing out to a 60 pointer, couple of attempted fightbacks so didn't wilt as meekly as usual when we're bad.....but yeah not a great one. Centre bounces we're diabolically bad at times.
A lot of amateur hour moments again tonight. Bice who was decent, Heeney was awesome, needed help bit didn't really get much except from maybe Grundy. Thought Florent was ok. Some of the younger players did some ok things. Almost everyone else were ordinary - poor. A lot of the defenders where outright shit.

- If fit, I think Melican, Cunningham, McDonald & McInerney walk back into the side next week (or at least should)...but the challenge for Cox is...it's not as much the Co. Warner, Hanily and Cleary types that are the ones who are really battling when things against us......it's Lloyd, Rampe (and Hamling tonight) types that look a bit slow and a bit suspect...and are probably hurting us more at times.....is he ready to at least make the tougher (and more needed) call to drop one or two from that group?

- Cox also needs to make a few calls. The plethora of rucks in the side did the job for a couple weeks but is not realistic going forward, and got exposed a bit tonight which was inevitable....has to make a call between Ladhams and McLean...one or the other, and whoever stays in needs to be able to give Grundy a decent chop out because he's looked much better when we can support him.

- Don't wanna see any ****ing around with McDonald playing back or anything like that, get a natural forward up there who knows how to lead...probably won't fix our marking problem but it isn't getting fixed by McCartin forward anyway (and he's desperately needed down back). Logan at least goes to the right spots and leads up to the ball carrier. Our forward line is struggling to function because we only have a couple truly natural forwards in the team, none of whom are KP...there was next to no movement from the forwards at times tonight.

Unfortunately we don’t have many clubs in in kit bags, our contested footy is awful so we can’t try and make the game contested, our talls can’t take a grab so we can’t go long kick down the line because when the footy hits the ground we can’t win it back because it goes back to our poor contested footy.

Bright lights, stage fright. Big event, another disappointment.
